News of Fullerton S. O. TO OPEN NEW FULLERTON DEPOT The Standard Oil Co. applied to Fullerton trustees at their regular weekly meeting last night for permission to put a new oil station on the Santa Fe property. The matter was laid over a week. Representatives of the ornamental light contractors appeared before the board and asked permission to install temporary transformers on the light posts that lights might be in use shortly. This was granted and, it is stated, that there will be light for the ornamental lighting districts within about a week. The Community Hotel Committee presented a request that the comfort station on No. Spadra just north of the city hall be removed, as the hotel company contemplates starting to work in the near future, it was stated. The annual report of Building Superintendent Richman was submitted, and accepted. Mr. Richman stated that January was a very quiet month. Improvements amounting to $11,534 were begun. February was better, but not until March did building show any decided pick-up. MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS About 50 members of the Ladies Missionary Society of the Christian church met yesterday with Mrs. John T. Houser at the parsonage, for the monthly meeting. The program was under the direction of Mrs. Rufus Grieves. The topic for discussion was "The Needs of Japan." The setting for the meeting was in Japanese, the house being decorated with Japanese fixtures and other paraphernalia, and those who served and took part on the program were dressed in Japanese costumes. Refreshments of tea and rice cakes were served. MEMBERSHIP CONTEST The Houser Bible class and the big Santa Ana class will soon be in the midst of a membership contest that promises to be of greater proportions than any similar event ever held in this section of So. Calif., a challenge of the local class having been accepted by the class at the county seat. The challenge was taken to Santa Ana week ago by C. B. Hutchison and G. Swoffer, officials of the local class, and the acceptance was carried to Fullerton Sunday by a delegation from the Santa Ana class. The Fullerton men are preparing to put on their fighting clothes and win back the jaurels lost in the football controversy, and President Dowling asserts that "Fullerton can and shall win."
