LYON CO. OFFERS XMAS INDUCEMENT
What has ever been proven more positively true than the saying, "There'5s no place like home!" Everyone who has ever had a home no matter how humble, knows the answer to this query. But under later day plans of home building it is not imperative that homes be most humble. With a lot, one may easily secure funds to build a home, and it is no trick to secure a lot under the selling plan in the Elk Park Extension.
This subdivision has been laid out by the Lyon Realty Co., and a prettier site is not to be found. All lots face either Paulina, Sabina or Olive-sts, and is an extension of the Elk Park Tract. It has all the conveniences, is convenient to the downtown district and sewer, gas sidewalks, curbings, lights, water, all are of the improvements for each home owner in the tract.
Every lot has either citrus or walnut trees, which will give the owner returns at once. Restrictions will be carefully guarded, making the tract a most desirable place upon which to invest one's money in an ideal house.
The Lyon realty firm is making a great Christmas inducement to all possible purchasers, giving them a Christmas present and telling how much happiness may be brot about by helping another to secure a lot. The gift coupon, properly filled, is worth money. In making an initial payment of $150, which is small indeed, the gift certificate will add $75, which makes $225 total. To the man who already has his own home, but who contemplates a substantial gift to his son or daughter, what could be better than the first payment on a lot in this beautiful tract, which will immediately increase in value, as well as establish a habit of thrift and a feeling of pride in making the remainder of the payments, the terms of which are most liberal.
A miniature plot of the addition may be seen in the window of the company's office on N. Los Angeles-st and gives a good idea of the general lay of the lots.
The prices are very reasonable, terms most lenient and the adven-

THREE SURPRISE WITNESSES ON STAND
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21.—Clearing the way for the opening of its fight to prove Arthur C. Burch, on trial for the murder of J. Belton Kennedy, insane, the defense today fired its last round of impeachment shots aimed to riddle the testimony of important prosecution witnesses and smash vital links in the chain of circumstantial evidence against him.
By the testimony of three women, who were expected to provide the biggest surprise of the defense case, Paul W. Schenck, chief of counsel for Burch, planned to wreck the story of Richard Sanderson, the Pullman porter, who testified that Burch brot a shotgun case "with something it in" to Los Angeles.
The women were passengers with Burch on the Pullman car which brot him to this city from Evanston. Schenck hoped to completely offset the prosecution theory that the case contained the shotgun Burch is alleged to have used when he killed Kennedy.
The defense counsel relied upon the testimony of the three women to discredit the testimony of the porter, the only prosecution evidence which has not been impeach-

MAN BITES BOMB;
BLOWS HEAD OFF
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21—Grieving over an illness, August Snell, 70, a patient of the county hospital, ended his life today by chewing a dynamite cap which virtually blew off his head when it exploded, according to the police.
Snell was a patient in ward No. 200, and shortly before 8 a.m. went to a small room at the end of the ward, where he put the explosive in his mouth and closed his teeth on it.
The explosion was heard by nurses and it terrorized a number of patients.
An investigation was made by the hospital authorities and they summoned the police. Coroner Nance authorized John R. Ball, an undertaker, to remove the body.

Anyone who has seen the work of the girl marksmen on local rifle ranges knows that there are many, many safer place to be than acting as target for one the girls firing.
