ANAHEIM MAN WINS FIRST SHOW HONOR
Complete awards, announced by the judges of the So. Calif. Poultry Show at Santa Ana, disclosed that Fred. Heying, of Anaheim, entered the best single comb Rhode Island Red pullet, while R. O. Hakalin, of Alambra, placed on exhibition the best single comb Black Minorca cockerd. The two handsome cups offered by Judge J. C. Williams were won by Hakalin and Heying.
The fowls exhibited by these two chickens raisers were said by the judges to be the finest specimens of their kind in the United States and fit to rank with the choicest prize birds shown at Madison Square Garden in New York.
In addition to the two special prizes awarded, Hakalin and Heying, nine other special awards were announced by the judges. The trophy offered by President R. A. Gushman for the best bird in the Mediterranean class was won by W. S. Hatch, of Tustin, who exhibited the best single comb White Leghorn cockerd. The president's trophy for the best bird in the American division was won by James Y. White, of Oakland. He exhibited a White Wyandotte cockerd.
Attendance at the show is increasing. Twelve hundred persons visited the exhibits last night.
JEWISH FARMERS MAKE RECORD
LONDON, Dec 16—American machinery, American capital, and American business men can make Palestine as productive a country as there is on the globe."
So says Henry Friend, Chicago merchant stopping at the Pigadilly hotel. Mr. Friend spent five months in Roumania engaged in relief work for the B'nai Brith, distributing clothing among the Jews. Later he spent a month in Palestine.
"A new town called Telavy is being built up by the Jews near Jaffa with buildings as modern as those in Paris and Chicago. In all there are about fifty colonies and every one is prosperous. Already there are quite a few furniture, carpet, button, and cigarette factories in Jerusalem, but the
WHICH ARM TO OFFER PARIS LADY
PARIS, Dec. 16—An amusing controversy is raging at present in Paris.
When walking with a lady, should a gentleman offer her his right arm or his left? Frenchwomen contend a man should offer his left arm so his consort may have the hand free with which she holds her handbag and parcels.
Asked for his advice on the question, M. Andre de Fouquieres, the leader of Paris masculine fashion, explained that a man should not offer his right arm at all to a lady when in the street except in a crowd or under exceptional circumstances, such as if a lady were feeling indisposed.
But when taking a lady into dinner or under similar circumstances in doors a man, he explained, should offer his right arm, in accordance with a custom which has survived since the days when men wore swords.
WAR OVER AT OPERA; MUST WEAR FONNALS
PARIS, Dec. 16—The war is over—at least as far as the opera is concerned.
The concession granted to mere pales during the war and since the armistice of appearing at the opera without the time-honored full evening dress has been withdrawn.
The management considers that the usual variations of dress worn by the men was a jarring note in the place always famous for the brilliance of the toilettes worn by the audience. Some of the men took advantage of the concession and appeared in tweeds and even golfing suits.

FAMILY HARD UP

20 acres (1744 trees) which unquestionably stands unchallenged as the best orange grove in this section. A grove with a record, a grove with a future. There is not one weak feature attached to this offering. Upon inspection one becomes impressed with the size of the trees, their vigor, health and thrift condition. The soil is of the finest, setting indicates that it will be one of the heaviest producing 20 acres in Orange-co. This is a grove which has received not only the best care, but all work has been done by the owners themselves. Its location is ideal, situated in city limits, 3 blocks from the new postoffice, with frontage on 3 streets. The only reason this splendid grove is on the market is due to one of the owners being desirous of returning east. It is offered for sale at a ridiculously low figure, and we are prepared to produce figures which will show an income of 22 per cent.
This is your one big opportunity to purchase a grove which is now increasing in value. Don't wait until the fruit colors up. Don't wait until the owners change their minds but buy now.
5 acres of 5-year-old Valencias that would do your heart good to see. The trees have an exceptionally heavy setting for next year, with every indication of sizing up well. Soil conditions firm. This grove is all piped. There is a nice home, all modern, with garage, which makes this proposition exceptionally attractive. We doubt if there is another 5 acres which can compare with this. Anyone purchasing this beautiful grove will feel greatly satisfied especially when the fruit colors up. Better look into this before it is too late.
10 acres 5-year-old Valencias, setting and soil A-L Grove all piped. This grove can be purchased at your own figure.
5 acres 2-year-old Valencias all piped.
Something that will return to you an income commensurate with its cost. Also, you want it on such terms that you will not be afraid of losing it.
