SOCIETY LODGES CLUBS CHURCHES LUNCHEON WITH CARDS LATER, IS PLEASANT AFFAIR MRS. L. F. POMEROY, of Zeyn street, was a charming hostess yesterday afternoon, when she entertained a few friends at lunchcon and later for an afternoon of cards. Christmas colors, red and green, were used in compliment to the season, flaming poinsettias and trailing greenery being prettily combined. The luncheon was served at 1 o'clock in three courses, covers being laid for almost two dozen ladies. Five hundred-red was the entertainment feature of the afternoon and prizes were won by Mrs. Earl Abbey, of Santa Ana, first; Mrs. Charles Harbeson, second; Mrs. H. H. Benjamin, third, and Mrs. Leonard Evans, consolation. After the games were concluded and prizes awarded, the ladies enjoyed a short discussion of the finer points of the play, before bidding good afternoon, and expressing appreciation of so pleasant a while. The guest list included the Mesdames Earl Abbey, of Santa Ana; Robert McKee, of Placentia; H. H. Benjamin, Charles Harbeson, Leonard Evans, George Dunton, D. Arnold Singleton, Fred Marsh, Leo Sheridan, Raymond Smith, George Bunsmoor, John Reuther, J. S. Ward, Hermann Backs, Walter Ward, W. S. Pomeroy, A. D. Palmer, Ruth Seitz, Arthur Arnold May, H. E. W. Barnes, J. T. Lyon and Al. Heying. C.E. CHRISTMAS PARTY TONIGHT The members of the Christian Endeavor society of the Christian church are giving their thoughts and efforts toward making the Christmas party which will be given to them. JACK ERICKSON IS YOUNG HOST ON HAPPY DAY MASTER JACK ERICKSON, seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Erickson of 200 N. Helena-st., was the charming host yesterday afternoon when he played the role to a number of his friends in honor of his birthday anniversary. The young chap was made the recipient of many pretty reminders of the occasion. The room looked very attractive in the colors of red and green. Out door games were thoroughly enjoyed throughout the afternoon, and upon the invitation of Mrs. Erickson, the game ceased and the children found their places at a long table artistically decorated for the occasion. The cake with the seven candles formed the large center piece and excited many compliments. Places at the table were marked for the Misses Berniece Krooger, Lina Narath, Clair Fisher, Pauline and Dorothy Neenno, Marjorie Erickson, Genevieve Dickenson, Helen Goesch of Olive, the Masters Henry Krooger, Billie and Raymond Nowotny, Tom Fisher, Melvin Randall, Roland Schindler, Robert Dickenson, Elmer Gill, Ross Browneville, Roland Goesch and the young host, Master Jack Erickson. MEN'S CLASS URGE ATTENDANCE Every member of the White Temple Men's Bible class is urged to be present Sunday morning at 9:30. Los Angeles St. BUENA PARK CLUB GIVES CHRISTMAS PARTY YESTERDAY INTEREST ran high in the Xmas program that was given under the auspices of the Women's Club of Buena Park, yesterday afternoon in the community hall of that place. The hall was prettily trimmed with red pepper berries and greenery. In one corner of the room was the large Xmas tree and by the tree stood jolly old Santa in full dress. A very interesting and appropriate program was given which consisted of the following numbers: Piano solo, Miss Juanita Simpson, reading from Ben Hur "The Birth of Christ," Mrs. Hason; duet, "Holy Night," Misses Simpson and Fannie Fisk, reading on origin of the Xmas tree; Miss Ruth Meyer; Xmas Carol, "Jingle Bell" Women's club. A march was played and during this the children of the members marched to the tree, where Santa presented each one with a cornicopia, a pop corn ball and a present from the grab bag. After the children received their gifts, the members of the club marched to the front and were given their presents. Punch was also served during the afternoon. Mrs. Shaw played the part of the Santa and she truly looked the part. The gracious hostesses of the afternoon were the Mmes. Teagarden, Cox, Meyer, and J. F. Simpson. The party was a great success from the beginning to the end and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. ATTEND Y. M. C. A. MEETING C. R. Harrison, M. E. Beebe, J. U. Hemmi and Frank N. Gibbs attended the meeting of foreign secretaries of the Y. M. C. A. in China and Mexico at Santa Ana yesterday. There was a report of the work in various countries. There were about 25 in attendance. DOUBLE WEDDING IN OLIVE A wedding of elaborate detail and beautiful arrangement occurred last night in the Lutheran church in Olive, when the double wedding of Miss Julia Heinmannam to Mr. Henry Timber. LOCAL MANAGER ENTERTAINS WITH TURKEY DINNER In commemoration of the successful establishment of the local Bake-Rite concern, Mr. H. P. Noll, lessee manager, gave a 7:30 turkey dinner last night at the Oyster Loaf, his guests being officials of the company and local business men. Mr. L. F. Lorenz, president of the corporation, and Mr. J. Will Rice, manager of the financial dept., were present. Mr. Lorenz expressed his company's appreciation of the excellent manner in which Mr. Noll has conducted the branch in Anaheim. He talked interestingly of the establishment of the Bake-Rite company in Southern California six months ago, and stated that at the present time there are 16 stores in successful operation, with four to be added to the number by Jan. 1st. Mr. Noll told of plans for establishing the second store in Anaheim in a very short time, as one is not adequate to care for the needs of housewives on both sides of town. Mr. Noll said one reason for the demand for the Bake-Rite goods is the care and cleanliness in making the bake stuffs, only the most wholesome of materials being used, and the use of machinery almost exclusively in handling. Enjoying the feed and evening together were L. F. Lorenz, president of the company; J. Will Rice, manager; P. J. Shortt, all of Los Angeles; W. A. Dolan, of Anaheim National Bank; Lotus H. Louden, S. S. Conklin and the host, H. P. Noll. YEOMAN CHRISTMAS PARTY The Yeoman lodge has extended an invitation to all their members and their children to attend their Xmas party, which will be held in their club rooms Monday, Dec. 19, 1921. There will be a tree with all the pretty and goodies on it. There will be candy, fruit and nuts for all. A good program is on the bill for the evening and a good time is assured all who attend. Don't forget to come yourself and bring the children. The program will start at 7:30. JESSE JOPLIN, 81, PASSES AWAY TODAY Jesse Joplin, father of Mrs. Charles Day, died this morning at 7 o'clock, at the home of his daughter after an illness of short duration. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Mr. Joplin came to Anaheim from Missouri, about three years ago, but was a native of Virginia. He was aged 81 years, 10 months. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Fay, and a brother, county treasurer, J. C. Joplin, of Santa Ana. "Salvation Nell" is the feature at the California today. It is a sensational photodrama carrying that heart interest appeal which you will like. There is also a vaudeville performance. "Miracles of the Jungles" is the feature of the program at the Fairyland today. Spikes Brothers' Syncopated orchestra and jubilee singers are also present. BIRTHDAY PARTY Mrs. Homer Ames entertained informally yesterday afternoon for the pleasure of several of her friends in honor of her birthday anniversary. The social afternoon was preceded by a luncheon at 1 o'clock. The diversions of the afternoon were conversation and fancy work. Mrs. Ames used tasty flowers of the season for her decoration. About a dozen friends responded to her invitation to spend the afternoon with her in such a pleasing manner. PENOCHLE AT HATHAWAY RANCH Mrs. M. E. Canby was hostess to the Evening Penochle club last evening, a delicious luncheon being served at 7 o'clock. Beautiful roses from C. R. Harrison, M. E. Beebe, J. U. Hemmi and Frank N. Thiess, pastor of the church, at 6 o'clock, in the presence of a large congregation. After the ceremony the bridal couples and their friends went to the homes of R. H. Paulus for the reception to Mr. and Mrs. Timken, and to the Heineman parental home to greet Mr. and Mrs. Heinmann. At each place the guests were served with a banquet, and the later hours were passed with music and games. After a short honeymoon the two couples who have been life long friends and neighbors, will return to Olive where they will locate upon ranches, Mr. and Mrs. Timken upon the Paulus ranch, and Mr. and Mrs. Heineman to the Heineman place. VOLUNTEERS’ TAG DAY Judging by the number of enterprising young girls who will be on the streets tomorrow, one had better bring his or her small change along to donate to the Volunteers of America for the committee in charge of the affair will try to have every person in the city tagged in behalf of this good cause—dependent children of our own state. The work will start early tomorrow from the headquarters in the C. of C., where all those who were invited to assist are asked to come soon after nine o'clock for their tags and instructions. NEW MEMBER JOINS CLUB The home of Chas Trudeau on South street, was the scene of a merry party last evening, when their niece, Miss Florence Hammill, entertained the members of the Chat 'n Seau club. Discussion of timely topics of the day was the feature of the evening, with embroidery work as a side issue. In the late evening, Miss Hammill served a delicious collation to the guests, who were the Misses Hazel Withee, Evelyn Degryse, Viola Elliott, the Mines C. B. Goodson, E.Voss Herrington and son, E.Voss Jr., Fred Scott and the hostess, Miss Florence Hammill. Owing to the departure of one of a luncheon at 1 o'clock. Priced from $9.00 up SPREADS YEAR-AROUND CHEER The officers of the Howe Bible class met last evening in the church enjoying a fine dinner at 6:30, and making Christmas plans for the very near future. The president was also empowered to name a nominating committee for election of officers at the next meeting. The class is doing a great deal of philanthropic work, not only through the holiday season, but all the time. There is a fund in the name of the class in a bank, which may be used for no other purpose. Every member of the organization is continually on the lookout for the less fortunate ones, whom they may give a substantial boost over misfortune. Several families have been visited and helped recently. The class is growing in numbers and interest—and each Sunday morning sees a major attendance in class meeting. Chartres St. Anaheim Phone 776-W COUNTY'S FINEST POSTOFFICE HERE Anaheim will have the finest post-office of any place in the county, when the new quarters in the Eisenhauer building at Clementine and W. Center-st. is opened, Postmaster J. F. Ahlborn said this morning. The new quarters will be opened to the public Monday, Jan. 2. Ahlborn spent part of the morning consulting with Frank C. Eisenhauer, who is looking after the interior construction and installation of fixtures. The fixtures have been slow in coming but now have reached St. Louis. The floor space in the new quarters, which are in the rear on the first floor, with entrance on the west side of Clementine-st., is nearly double that of the present postoffice. There is 3500 square feet compared with 1800. The fixtures will be of steel, done in dark mahogany, and woodwork will be in the same finish. The steel fixtures come already enameled. Lock boxes will occupy the space to the right as you enter, offices to the left, with letter drop, etc., about midway between the two. In the central space will be the writing desks. The front floor space will be tiled and the walls done in a light buff color. The letter-carriers' desks will be directly in the rear of the office.
