NOT RAISED OUR PRICES News of Fullerton TAKING STEPS TO BROADEN STREETS The city engineer of Fullerton was authorized to interview the citizens of No. Spadra-rd and also of East Wilshire-ave, relative to obtaining property to widen the street on No. Spadra from Chapman-ave to the bridge, and one block east on Wilshire. Many of the property owners are said to have offered property to the city for widening the streets, and no land grabbing is contemplated by the city. Neither is it expected to widen the street just at this time, but it is planned to take time by the forelock, and get ready for the street widening when the business district of the city spreads. The board awarded $75 to Mason Brown for damage to orange trees from a fire on city property. The plans for Highland-ave bridge were accepted. The question of machinery for the new workshops at the city water plant was referred to Water Superintendent Gillette and Trustee R. A. Marden. A report was given on the proposed draining of Magnolia-ve, it being stated that the city of Orange-thorpe is willing to co-operate and share expenses. Well-Known Rancher Pneumonia Victim Joseph A. Bayes, 45, died last night at his home southwest of Buena Park, of pneumonia and heart trouble. He is well-known throughout northern Orange-co., especially in Fullerton, having formerly been manual training teacher in the Fullerton grammar and the Fullerton high schools, and at the time of his death held that position in the La Habra schools. Decedent is survived by his widow, a daughter, three brothers and two sisters, all whom is Mrs. MARKS RE-ELECTED LEGION COMMANDER The regular meeting of the Fullerton Post of the American Legion was held last night, and there was the annual election of officers. E. J. Marks was re-elected commander. The other officers chosen were: Jack Horner, first vice comamder; Lee Potter, second vice comamder; Sam L. Collins, adjutant; Francis Dowling, librarian; J. McConnell, sergeant-at-arms; Henry Matter, chaplain. Delegates to the county council were: E. J. Marks, Sam L. Collins, Fred Fuller, Lee Potter, and M. A. Dwyer. J. C. TO ENTERTAIN FOOTBALL ELEVEN The junior college student body will entertain the J. C. football boys this evening at 6:30 o'clock. They will be entertained at Whittier Thursday evening and at Albambra Friday evening, and will be the guests of the proprietor of the McFarland Cafe at the cafe Tuesday evening. The J. C. team will play Pomona, Occidental, and the U. S. C. in January, it is stated. HOTEL, CERTAINLY, STATES BENCHLEY The Fullerton hotel is a certainty, it was stated this morning by Edward K. Benchley of the hotel committee. The deed and the money are both in escrow. Fullerton trustees last night fixed the price and authorized the transfer at $19,164.14. The hotel will be essentially the same as proposed in the original design of the architect, although final plans have not yet been completed, it was stated. SAN SOUCI CLUB MEETS Mrs. Roy Davis on West Brookdale delightfully entertained the members of the San Souci Card club at her home yesterday afternoon. His left arm was fractured. C. N. Lentz of Sacramento is visiting with the Smith brothers of the Standard Bank of Fullerton. The Emporium was opened today in its new headquarters at the corner of Amerige-ave and N. Spadra-rd and invite their patrons to follow them to their new location. Amerige will be a guest this week at the home of Mr. and FULLERTON OPENS RESERVOIR BIDS Bids were opened last night by Fullerton trustees for the new reservoir and the hauling of the new iron piping for the water mains. There were 17 mlds, and they were referred to the engineer's department for recommendation. The agreater part of the evening was devoted to the discussion of the bids, and also of a proposed new division in La Habra. HI SCHOOL SAVINGS BANK BIG SUCCESS L. O. Culp of the Fullerton J. C told today of the success of the high school savings bank which has been opened at the high school and J. C as a branch of the First National Bank of Fullerton. He said that the deposits are amounting to about $20 a day, and that the students are getting a real banking experience, Harrison Aker is president; Raymond Thompson, cashier, and William Seivers, assistant cashier. The bank is open from 8 o'clock until 3:30. The J. C. football boys have about $1,200 on deposit. Olinda News Items OLIVE, Dec. 12.-A pleasant surprise was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. August Lemke in honor of their son, George, when a large number of young folks arrived to help him celebrate his 24th birthday anniversary. The evening was spent in playing games and singing. The gift which he received was a large cake bearing 24 red, white and blue candles. It was presented to him by one of the young ladies. Timken and children, Lawrence and Lorena Mr., and Mrs. Robert Lemke and children, Elmer and Irene, Mr., and Mrs. Ben Lemke, Walter Otte, Clara, William and Alma Paulus, Martin Rudolph, Ger- FEDERAL DRILLING FISHES FOR WEEK Brea-Fullerton Fishing has occupied a week for the Federal Drilling Co on the Dolke-Thomas Syndicate No. 1.A twist off at 2120 resulted in a difficult fishing job. The Columbia Oil Producing Co drilling Olinda No. 34 at 4200 feet has found no oil.Like other deep test wells in the Olinda field the Columbia well will probably turn out a "duster." Puente 1-A another deep test well in the heart of the old Puente field is at 1345 in a very hard sand. The Fullerton Oil Co.spudded in and is now drilling on No. 17 at about 500 feet.No. 16 a recent completion at 4200 feet is making 300 barrels. The Cansler-Canfield Midway's No. 94 at Olinda now drilling at 3675 looks good for two hundred barrels.Wells in this vicinity have been producing for more than a quarter of a century. LAGUNA BEACH OIL STRIKES SALT WATER New Port and San Joaquin Hills In spite of the fact that the Laguna Beach Oil Association struck hot salt water at 3260, drilling has resumed and the hole is now being made at 3359.At this point the 6-in is to be set and cemented.Its is the intention to continue drilling and make a deep test well. Drilling on the Nu Santa is now close to 2700 feet,the formation continues to run in blue shale.Showings of importance were reported at 2550.The Wuchere and Gray interests have four wells drilling near Balboa.Wucherer-Gray No.1 is close to 3000 feet and will set pipe soon.W.A.G.No.1 at 3000 stands cemented, ten inch.The W.G.R.Petroleum Co.has spudded in and shows 600 feet of hole.The San Joaquin Hills Oil Co.spudded in and made 200 feet of hole.Four wells drilling in an unproved field is showing a lot of faith.Drilling at 3345 feet the Long Beach Consolidated Oil Company strikes a fine white sand.The home of Mrs. J.
