Cal. Auto club's inspection crew has just returned from a trip covering all roads into Big Bear valley; this included the Victorville desert route, Hesperia cut-off, Mill Creek road, Waterman Canyon and the Crest road. All were found to be in excellent condition and will remain so until storms set in; then it will be advisable to send everyone over the Victorville desert route. The Hesperia cut-off will be passable until rains occur when the crossing of the Mdjave river will be made difficult. Storm drains or ditches, have been cut across the road on the Crest route on an average of every 200 feet and slow driving is necessary to avoid breaking springs. The Mill Creek road is in excellent shape. No guards at the control, but the hours, which are listed at both entrances, must be observed. Accommodations obtainable at Big Bear valley Tavern, Moon Camp and Camp Eureka, which will remain open all winter. Baldwin Lake has a thin coating of ice, Ducks are plentiful on both Baldwin and Big Bear lakes. There is considerable snow on the shady sides of the mountains and under the heavy timber. The nights are cold and advise everyone to drain the water from the radiator of their cars to prevent freezing.
