Tuesday, December 13, 1921 FREE ONE CRASH, HITS OTHER CARS There was an accident this afternoon when a truck struck three o'clock at the corner of Los Angeles and Center-sis then D. E. Glasson, of Occonside, collided in his car with a Ford sedan blogging to R. R. Hoover, of Bloomington, IL. Police helped him to get free from his collision and then he started out and hit several cars which were parked on the east side of Los Angeles at a knocked down Norman Boyd., of naheim, tearing his clothing; but it injuring him seriously. Mr. Glasson stated that he became nervous and was unable to control his car. MAZONS IN NEW ATTACK ON MINES GIRARD, Kan., Dec. 13. — An Amazon army" throwing red pepper, lakes, stones and lumps of coal ept through the southern Kansas fields again today, forcing mines to quit work. LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13. — The family of Conrado Gaxiola of 1601 South Union ave.4 today anticipated confirmation of the report that Gaxiola was appointed governor of the northern district of Lower California. Gaxiola, who is in Hermosillo, Sonora was a confidential agent of President Obregon for some time and formerly was Mexican consul ni this city. Injured When Caught In Electric Wringer Mrs. A. A. Mills is nursing a severely bruised right hand, sustained yesterday morning when it was caught in the rollers of an electric wringer. The machine was stopped when the hand had been drawn in as far as the knuckles. The physician found no bones broken, but the bruises are very painful and the hand badly swollen today. NAVAL ACADEMY MAY BE SCRAPPED WASHINGTON, Dec. 13. — The Naval academy, where the men who "man" Uncle Sam's warships are trained, is to be scrapped if the Hughes plan goes thru. It was stat- ed definitely here today. Several members of congress are already making a study of what to do with future men will have to go thru an academy training to "man" the ships that will be left in the navy if the "scrapping" plan is put thru. STATE MAY ACT IN COAL FIELD RIOTS TOPEKA, Kansas, Dec. 13. — The state will undoubtedly have to take action if conditions remain as they are in the So. Kansas coal fields, Emmett George, secretary to Gov. Henry J. Allen, said today, follow- ing continued mobbing of working miners by an "Amazon army." VOLUNTEERS HOLD TAG DAY SATRUDAY A Tag Day for funds to aid children in care of the Volunteers of America will be launched in this com-munity on Saturday, Dec. 17th, is announced by a local committee who will serve as patronesses for the affair. The Volunteers of America was founded by Gen. and Mrs. Mand Ballington Booth nearly thirty years ago. It is incorporated in California and is state-wide in its service to the particular class of little ones whom it helps. The Volunteers of America is the first institution in the history of the world to make a systematic effort to save the man behind prison walls; or to aid the family left on the outside, in many instances destitute when he is sent away. The work of the Volunteers abroad during the World War is well known. Three hundred sixty-five members of the organization's staff, together with Mrs. Booth, did active service on the field, Mrs. Booth leaving after nine months services only because of her broken health. The organization is supported by voluntary contributions and it is hoped every one will give a quarter, dime or half dollar for a tag on Saturday. Headquarters will be in the Chamber of Commerce. NOVEMBER EXPORTS TOTAL $295,500,000 WASHINGTON, Dec. 13.—Exports in November totalled $295,500,000, the lowest record of any month this year; imports, $211,300,000, the highest of the last six months. For the eleven months exports were $4,-191,000,000, against $7,508,000,000 and imports $2,272,000,000 against $5,012,000,000. Gold exports amounted to $607,427 against $20,000,000 in November, 1920; gold imports, $52,000,000 against $57,000,000 a year ago. Silver exports were $5,000,-000 against $3,000,000 and imports $6,000,000 against $5,000,000. HOLIDAY RATES ON S.P.NEXT WEEK-END Fare and one-half for the round trip will be charged by the Southern Pacific Dec. 22-24, both inclusive, between points in California, the regular fare for which one way is not more than $25 nor less than $2.50. W.E. Swain announced this morning. Swain said the reduction was the first made applying to the Christmas holiday season since before the war. WIDOW SEEKS LETTERS Letters of administration over the estate of Marlow Andrews, consisting of a 25-acre orange grove near Anaheim, valued at $69,000, were asked by the widow, Alberta Andrews, in a petition on file today in the superior court. The petitioner and H.W. Andrews, a son, are the only heirs named in the petition. NO INCREASE HERE IN LEMON ACREAGE The Anaheim district, unlike some others, will show no increased lemon acreage during the 1321-22 season, says G.W. Sandilands, manager of the Anaheim Orange and Lemon Association. His organization has only 100 acres and the slow, but steady tendency has been to decrease rather than increase average. The Anaheim Citrus Fruit Association has no lemon acreage whatever. So far as bearing acreage is concerned, this is not true of certain other districts adjacent to Anaheim, which will share in the production that is gradually increasing from the 17,099 acres hitherto non-bearing. The 32,000 lemon acreage of last year resulted in shipments of 4,663-600 boxes during the year ending October 31, compared with 3,817,480 the previous year and an average of 3,199,732 average of the last five years. California supplies enough lemons for all of the United States and Canada and is now encroaching on markets hitherto looked after by foreign lemon growers. CAL.
