S. A. LIONS ROAR FOR COMMUNITY CENTER Establishment of a community center in Santa Ana was suggested by the Rev. P. F. Schrock, pastor of the First Congregational church, as "something for the Lions to roar about," in an address of the Lions club of Santa Ana. The Rev. Mr. Shrock spoke of the various elements needed each city, the "stand patter," conservative and progressive, designating the Lions as one of the latter class. at Weber's DOLLS! DOLLS! The United Oil Co. has both Denni No. 1 and Denni No. 2 standing cemented. No. 2 set the 10-in at 2841 GREAT AMOUNT OF EFFORT IN MOVIES The layman who has never witnessed the filming of a modern motion picture would be astounded were he to see one produced from start to finish. He would be amazed by the labor required to furnish the proper settings and by the infinitesimal details which confront the technical staff. An instance of the magnitude of such a task is "One Arabian Night," a First National attraction, starring Pola Negri, which will be the feature at the California Theatre, starting today. Prevented from filming the tale in its locale, the Persian city of Bagdad, owing to the prohibitive expense and the distance, the director Ernst Lubitsch, who also produced "Passion" and "Gypse Blood," in both of which Mile. Negri was the star, was compelled to construct practically an entire city. And the replica was just as good as the original, authorities on Eastern architecture agree. It is difficult for the spectator to realize, on seeing a bird's eye view of the city, that it is not the real thing. But he is blissfully unaware of the work and thought it required to make it. Clementine, Anaheim Phone 240-M These facts give an insight into the enormous amount of work involved in making the seams; and they comprise only two of the buildings. Many street scenes are shown, and while they are not elaborate or as stately as the palace views, they required almost as much work to make them true to life. There are many of the arched bridges which span the streets and are so dear to the sart of the Oriental. And neither thy nor the buildings were constructed of papie mache; the walls as made of stone and brick; and the seats are crooked and winding in accordance with the traditions of the Ear. The delightful bazaars at which midy satisfies her feminine craving for shopping are there, too, and the raza of the town covers several acres of ground. Another feat accomplished by Lubitsch was the "making" of a desert. No suitable desert being within many miles, one had to be constructed to order. A hilly street of country was discovered, and for days trains of trucks carried sand to the spot. This was spread over the ground and on the hillsides, with the result that the made-to-order desert appeared to be the real thing. And all with but one object—to entertain the motion picture fan. WOMAN IN TREE ONLY POL PARROT ALAMEDA, Cal., Dec. 9. — They still fall for Polly—just as they still bite on the old one of the wallet on the sidewalk on April Fool's day. A woman's scream aroused the entire west end district there last night. A huge crowd gathered and rushed up and down the 170 block in an attempt to locate the woman in distress. Several policemen aided in the search. The "woman" was finally found roosting in a tree. It was a Venezuelan parrot that had escaped from its cage and was amusing itself by drawing a crowd. Policeman Andy Peterson climbed the tree and coaxed he bird to come home to papa. WM. J. OELKE FUMIGATOR 218 S. Clementine, Anaheim Phone 240-M The Gould Battery Co.
