Tuesday, December 6, 1921 SPORTING EVENTS LONG BEACH ELKS WILL COME SUNDAY Barring another windstorm, Anaheim Elk baseballers will get back into their stride again Sunday with Long Beach Elks at Commonwealth Park, Fullerton. Manager Billy Knott stated today he expected to have every one of the regulars out in uniform besides some new talent in John Hawkins, crack athlete of Fullerton junction college and a brother of Arch Hawkins, Elk centerfielder; also, Callahan, reputed to be a probable outfielder. Knott stated today that a week from Sunday, the Anaheim team would take on the champ Alexander Giants of Los Angeles in the first of what will be a three-game series if the fans evince a desire for such brand of baseball by liberal attendance at the initial game. POLY FIVE TO PLAY ANAHEIM TUESDAY Santa Ana high school's basketball team engages in its initial contest of the season Tuesday evening here with Anaheim. Nessing and Deitrick were to occupy the forward berths against Anaheim, with Lacy at Center, and Bowe and Bailey in the defensive positions. Lutz is a substitute guard. Negotiations are under way between San Diego and Santa Ana for a pre-season practice game to be played in San Diego, but definite arrangements are not complete. Poly will have six teams in basketball this year. First, second, third, 130 pound, 120 pound and 110 pound teams will be organized. The bazaar given in Ley hall last week by the Woman's club was one of the biggest successes of anything of the kind that has ever been held here. The ladies took in $450.00 and though the expenses have not all been settled, they will not amount to more than $100. So the ladies will have more than $300.00 clear to apply on the lot they purchased a few weeks ago. Special mention cannot be made of all the departments in the bazaar but they all exceptionally fine. The "Knight and Say" Lunch room was very popular and served to capacity both days. The fancy work booth and the spoon booth sold out and made perhaps more money than any other. The doll booth was very popular with the kiddies and the big doll, which was donated by Mr. Cannon, brought more than $38.00 when it was sold by votes, each of which cost 5 cents. Bobbie Selover was the little girl made happy by receiving it. The fish pond the flower garden and the candy booth all did their part to make the bazaar the splendid success that it was. The bright red, green blue or tan silk stockings that used to brighten the London streets have disappeared. Stroll along Bond-st or Regent-st any afternoon and for every gay pair of ankles you see you will count at least four black ones. The disappearance of the bright colors is credited to the sudden craze for black that is sweeping thru the dress world, a craze that is largely ascribed to stocks of the black material accumulated by the great Paris houses for purposes of mourning during the war and which the houses are now attempting to unload. Nor does the craze for black stop with stockings and frocks, but has penetrated to the realm of the "underneaths." DOG CATCHES TROUT ASHFORD, Eng., Dec. 6.
