Friday, December 2, 1921 SPORTING EVENTS STAGE TITLE GAME ON BOVARD FIELD Bovard field, Los Angeles, will be the scene of the final So. Calif. gridiron title battle between Santa Ana and San Diego Saturday, Dec. 10, according to an agreement between officials of the two schools. Following a telephone conference between Principal D. K. Hammond of Santa Ana and Principal T. M. Russell of San Diego it was agreed to stage the contest on the Los Angeles gridiron. Immediately upon learning of this decision Major McWaters, in charge of the Red Cross disabled war veterans's drive in Los Angeles, began negotiations to allow the Red Cross to take over the management of the contest. He proposes to guarantee each team $1000 and expenses, and to attend to all publicity provided the surplus go to the organization. He assures the school authorities of an attendance of 12,000. Principal Hammond agreed to the proposition, but San Diego requested $1500 and expenses, which would bring its total to about $2,000. It was not thought that the Los Angeles officials would receive this word with enthusiasm, as it would make their profit small. The matter was being considered, however, and a decision was expected momentarily by Principal Hammond, who was conferring with McWaters. Marshall Neilah's marvelous masterpiece production, "Bits of Life," are seen again at the California. The cast includes Wesley Barry, Lon Chaney and 14 other celebrated performers. There are also other decided novelties. ANAHEIM LAUNDRY BEATS FAHY FORDS Anaheim Laundry won two in three here last night from Fahy Ford, of Los Angeles, in the So. Cal. Major Bowling league. BONDS TODAY Voters in the Garden Grove union high school district, embracing the grammar school districts of Garden Grove, Bolsa and Alamitos, today registered their approval or disapproval of a proposed bond issue of $125,000 for the purchase of a site and erection and equipment of a union high school building. There was no doubt as to the voters supporting the issue, according to the statement today of a prominent resident of Garden Grove, it is said that some residents of the Bolsa district have expressed their belief that Bolso should go into the Huntington Beach union high school district because that district has a greater assessed valuation; but it is not believed the opposition to the Garden Grove district will be sufficient to affect the result of tomorrow's election. An option has been secured on the Edward Chaffee ten-acre tract on the boulevard, a half mile west of Garland. NEW TODAY FOR SALE—5-room house terms. Owner $22 E. Who is happier—the woman who can own the richest clothes by merely uttering "Charge It" or the humble wife whose credit is limited and who must pay in cash for what she buys? Philip Lawrence spends his time making a fortune in oil investments and Julia, his wife., spends her time spending his money at fashionable emporiums. By the utterance of the magic password "Sharge It." she possesses everything her heart desires. As Julia succumbs to the habit of this fatal phrase, her husband Philip must work all the harder to meet her bills, thus leaving him little time to devote to the personal attention of his wife. The inevitable happens. Julia strays to another man, Dana Herrick, president of an exclusive social club, who has an ingratiating manner and supplies the affection that her husband is too busy to give in his effort to amass enough wealth to pay her bills. Herrick, Julia soon learns, is rather democratic in his affections. A Millie Gareth flitting, light-headed wife of Tom Gareth, also shares the attentions of Herrick, as Julia discovers when she visits him unexpectedly. Herrick excuses do not exorenate him and Julia is disgusted to find that her attempt to seek affection from another man is futile. Matters grow worse for Julia when her husband Philip, discovers that she has been a frequent visitor at Herrick's apartment. Julia can now no longer face the righteous anger of Philip and deserts the wealth and position of her life. Flying to the poorer sections of the city for some means of livelihood, she is forced to the recourse of accepting the unpleasant duty of dishwasher in a cheap backstairs cabaret. Another angle in this current of human weakness is here introduced. At the cabaret Julia meets Rose, at one time her maid, who had become a chorus girl to escape the severity of her father, a rigid Scotchman. Meanwhile Phillip Lawrence, suspecting the secret relations that were pursued by his wife and Dana, threatens revenge against the clubmah. Herrick leaves the city at about the same time that Julia does. While the latter is engaged at the restaurant and the former at another resort, Millie Gareth, always on the alert to excite public suspicion on others, spreads the rumor that Herrick and Julia have left together. This serves as a wedge for her to ingratiate herself in the affections of the lonely Philip, while her husband is busy at the stock exchange. As fate would have it, Phil and Millie betake themselves to the cabaret one evening, only to discover that Julia is employed there. It is now Phil's turn to feel conscience-stricken, not only because of the company in which he is, but because of the sacrifice that Julia has made to vindicate her reputation and earn her own living. Robert father of Rose, the dancer, also appears on the scene and repents his harshness as he sees the depths to which his daughter has sunk. The venerable Scotchman has in his possession a mesh bag of Millie's which he found in Herrick's apartment, where he was butler. Robert approaches Philip and explains that it was Millie whom Herrick really was intimate with, not Julia, and he produces the mesh bag on the spot. Philip is convinced that his wife is innocent and a reconciliation is affected. Millie is abruptly dismissed and retires in shamie. The reunited couple then make a solemn vow not to exceed their allowance. Julia promises to eliminate the words "Charge It" from her vocabulary and Philip on his part takes an inward oath to limit his business to office hours, and devote the remaining time to his wife.
