CAR POPULAR XMAS GIFT THIS SEASON
"Cars are going to be a popular Christmas gift this year because of the ability to bring year-long joys to the whole family," says "Bill" Hauser, salesman for the Anaheim branch of the Frank P. Taggart Co., Chevrolet dealers.
"There is no single item that gives such satisfaction to each and every member of a family circle as does an automobile, nor is there any other thing that brings the family together so much in pleasant companionship and recreation as an automobile.
"The family car makes every day a Christmas day, and it is entirely likely that most any family would be willing to forego every other Christmas gift for each and every one of them if they could have a car for Christmas.
"There is nothing of the spirit of extravagance in the purchase of an automobile for family use. It is sound investment in something of actual and intrinsic value. Few, indeed, are the things which are not only actually worth the money, but possess at the same time those sentimental values that differentiate Christmas gifts from necessities.
"The far-sighted head of any family will do his car buying at Christmas. He has to buy one ultimately anyway, and he has the certainty that nothing could be provided that would bring such a measure of joy to each and every one of those whom he seeks to make happy.
"Automobile dealers have long since adopted the unique and timely practices in the delivery of these Christmas cars. Sometimes father has the new car put in the garage on Christmas eve, and the next morning instead of the familiar old bus there is a beautiful new automobile to please and surprise the home folks. Another favorite practice is to drive the car to the door and let some curious member of the home circle go out to see who has parked a strange car in front of the house."

This little ward of the American Relief Administration, which will provide free mass feeding to 1200,000 Russian children this winter, gets a nourishing meal each day at the Heover kitchen, but he has to go home to a hungry father and father. The resource of A. R. A. did not justify it in undertaking by way of charity any more ambitious program than that included in its feeding of children and nursing and expectant mothers.
When the first reports of the extent of the Russian famine were confirmed, showing that 159,060 persons were actually on the verge of death from hunger, and that as many more were fast approaching that condition, Herbert Hoover suggested to the Soviet authorities that they permit the A.R.A. no delivery to adults in Russia, foodstuffs paid for by their friends and relatives in the United States.
Any person can purchase remittances in $10 units up to $50 for delivery to specified individuals in Russia and up to $500 for delivery to recognized institutions or groups. Applications may be made in person or by mail to American Relief Administration, 42 Broadway, New York City. The recipient in Russia will receive a quantity of flour, condensed milk, beans, rice, hominy, cooking fats, sugar tea or cocoa, and so on, far in excess of what the sender could purchase at retail in the United States and have delivered in Russia.

YORBA News
YORBA, Dec. 3.—(Spl.) After years of striving and hard work Mr. Arthur Davignon is getting his ranch all in ship-shape condition; one of the latest improvements is the cementing of the water conduits and wherever-cementing was needed. Other improvements are to follow as soon as he can get to them or, as soon as he can see his way clear to make them. Sunday he and Mrs. Davignon entertained Mr. and Mrs. Obergast from Richfield and in the evening they in turn went over to Obergast's where a very enjoyable time was had by al concurred.
Mr. Dave Sanchez who had been visiting friends in Pomona since Thanksgiving returned home yesterday.
Mr. and Mrs. August Bieger and their two charming daughters, Lucy and Elsa, accompanied by Mrs. Amelia D. Velasco attended the California theatre in Anaheim a few nights ago.
Mrs. Erolinda C. Yorba spent Thanksgiving and remained for a week's visit at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ygnacio Vejar of Lordsburg. Other relatives entertained by the Vejar's were, Mr. and Mrs. P. Palomares of Ventura, Mr. and Mrs. L. Pelanconi of Hollywood, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wents of Anaheim, Mr. and Mrs. B. Yorba and Vincent Yorba of Yorba, also Mr. Dave Sanchez.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rimpman of Anaheim called on Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Velasco, the first part of the week.
Mrs. Beatrice Yorba-Johnson, a niece of Mrs. Velasco, has, by her descriptive and interesting letters and postcards, as visualized for her friends the itinerary of a trip she has been taking and which included Portland, Denver Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago New York, New Orleans San Antonio, etc., which we hope has been as enjoyable to her as it seems to those reading about it.
Mrs. J. R. Cruz and son Julian motored to San Gabriel, Sunday and Mrs. T. Lorchez to San Juan Capistrano.
Mr. Pete Romero is the proud possessor of a new Chevrolet and whilst he is quickly getting over it he still is wishing hard that, the roads were wider the traffic less.
PROBATION GRANTED IN BAD CHECK CASE
Upon recommendation of Sam Hurwitz, Santa Ana merchant, who was issued a worthless check by H. K. Holt, the latter was granted probation when he appeared before Judge R. Y. Williams in department two of the superior court. His probation covers a period of two years.
Teed visited with his daughter during the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vasquez were in Puente over Sunday.
The journalistic bug seems to have bitten several persons in this neighborhood, as vi de the numerous excerpts purporting to come from Yorba, yet when something does, really get sent from Yorba it is credited to "Yorba Linda." Now, we do not mean that the Yorba Linda correspondent has anything to do with it but, of course we old-timers at the business, know that every well appointed editorial sanctum has at least one perfectly good (?) Devil (!) and occasionally even the editor-in-chief when not too much pressed for time—or copy—to amuse himself (or themselves?) he takes to holding hands with the little imp, which develops an appetite for pl, or misapply, and the mischief is done. (Hope the O. C.'s...other correspondents—understand that it is not misspelled and that I really mean p—!—pl and not "ple," which is altogether another kind of "feed,"—this not being slang either.)
WIND MAKES SEDAN MORE DESIRABLE
That expansive smile spreading over the countenance of Harry D. Riley, Studebaker distributor, today is caused by the strong wind. Yessir, Riley likes these winds because it makes business good. This week the Studebaker has been showing a fine line of enclosed cars, specializing on sedans, and there is nothing quite like a disagreeable wind to prove the desirability of an enclosed car.
Eight styles of enclosed cars are being shown, from two to seven passenger models, and for the benefit of those who cannot get in during the day, Mr. Riley is keeping his sales rooms open until 9 o'clock this evening. A novel concert may be heard there each afternoon and evening from 4 to 5 and from 8 to 9, the music coming from Los Angeles by wireless. This is a rare treat and is being enjoyed by the crowds who visit the show room of the Studebakers.
