S. A. Defeats Chaffee in Semi-finals by 21 to 7 The Santa Ana high school eleven was too strong yesterday for the Chaffee union high school team, which was defeated 21-7. The game at Fullerton was the semi-final in the playoff for the Sou. Calif. championship. Santa Ana's next opponent is the San Diego high, and the game probably will be played at Bovard field, U. S. C. grounds, in Los Angeles, Dec. 10. "Spud" Morrison apparently had no fear of the outcome of yesterday's battle from the start. The entire second line of the Santa Ana team consisted of subs at the opening, and the latter seemed fully able to take care of themselves. Manker scored first for Chaffee, recovering the ball on a fumble by Knight and running 75 yards. This was in the second quarter. Thereafter, in spite of valiant opposition, Chaffee had no show. Santa Ana's three touchdowns were made in the second, third and fourth quarters, as the result mainly the first two goals and Knight the th first two goals and Knight the third for the victors. Santa Ana put in as substitutes Metz at left end, Coffman right end, Milen center, Phipps right guard, McDonald left guard, Black right half and Buxton left half. After that, Chaffee's chances seemed ended to the losers did some fine work at passing and put up a good defense. In the second half, Dean and Biefey were put in by Chaffee as guards, Cline, Hill and Courcier as ends. Aside from Wilcox, Stark starred for Santa Ana at left end with several good tackles. Knight and Jaba provided strong support. After Morrison put in his regulars, dashes by Wilcox and line backing by Black and Jaba took the ball to Chaffee's three-yard line, where Wilcox pushed over for Santa Ana's first touchdown. Knight on a buck early in the third quarter brought in Santa Ana's second touchdown. In the fourth quarter, after a series of line bucks, Santa Ana seized the ball on Chaffee's 20-yard line and Wilcox stole around his foot for the third touchdown. A big crowd was present and rooting was vociferous. Plenty of action is assured for the boys are all in good trim. Jack Iman, local busky, who tackles Jack Thomas, of Salinas, newcomer to local fistlinna, in the main go of the evening, says, he never felt better and expects to win over the northern lad in short order. Iman is just as apt to do it as not for he packs a wicked wallop and when it lands, it's curtains for his opponent. Thomas on the other hard, says to watch him and if he doesn't set the fans wild with his style when he gets under way he'll go back to Salinas a wiser but sadder boy. He is going out to win in short order if his word can be depended upon. Kid Rubio and Johnny Golindo also are all primed for their fracas and the fangs are going to see a real scrap here. Both these lads are clever two-handed performers and carry a good punch. They are 130 pounders rated as good men in the class. They will give fight bugs hereabouts something to talk about in their go if the dope on them lives up to form. For the prelims, Manager Billy Darnley believes he has signed up some live ones. Ernie Farren and Teddy Cruz will mix at 118 pounds. Both are fast, aggressive little fellows and always please the crowd. Jimmy Lloyd of local Elkdom makes his reappearance against that good boy, Arthur Espinosa. Espinosa is a corner according to those who watched the boy in action and it is expected he will keep Jimmy stepping fast all the way. The curtain raiser is really in the three-yard line where Wickey pans over for Santa Ana's first touchdown. Knight on a buck early in the third quarter brought in Santa Ana's second touchdown. In the fourth quarter, after a series of line bucks, Santa Ana seized the ball on Chaffee's 20-yard line and Wilcox stole around his foot for the third touchdown. The match is for the championship of the Pear Divers Union of Orange-co and both boys are out for a decisive win. Anaheim Elk baseballers will be seen in action again Sunday, after a six weeks' layoff, in a clash with Long Beach Elks at Commonwealth Park. Fullerton. Manager Billy Knott won't have as strong a lineup as he anticipated for the opening game, but he figures Anaheim can make it interesting for the scavengers. Buster Callan, the backstop mainstay, will be in Imperial Sunday. Curlet McClain who would ordinarily relieve the situation isn't enjoying the health of health, so it is up to Manager Bill to rake up some talent for this important position in the next 48 hours. Also, John Hawkins, brother of Arch, who was expected to show up for the first time Sunday, has deferred his premier for a week. Harold Youngman, who played a classy left field throut the summer, believes he gets enough athletic diversion as high school coach, and was anxious to get a vacation. He may be persuaded to come back for Sunday's game after listening to Knott's linguistic efforts. Knott expects out in suits Hughes and Salveson, pitchers; Ramage at first; Bush at second; Hawkins at short; Glenn Callan at third; Arch Hawkins and Fay Lewis in the field. The car and two men were seen in front of the Lanyon residence by a neighbor. A child's savings bank containing about $5 was the only loot obtained in the burglary.
