"Itap" Powers would be unable to start at the moment. AL SPARKES A capacity house is being anticipated at the big catch as catch can wrestling match between Al Sparks of Anaheim AL. SPARKES A capacity house is being anticipated at the big catch as catch can wrestling match between Al Sparks of Anaheim and Bull Montana next Tuesday evening when the Anaheim Athletic club will open the doors of its new home to the sport loving public of Orange-co and vicinity. There has been a big demand for tickets. It appears the match is creating unusual interest among local fans. The Bull sends up word that he will be fit and ready for the battle of his life next Tuesday and his one wish is that Strong Al will also be the same. Al has his heart set on eating the Bull for a win over the "handsome one" means much to him. Athletic Manager Billy Darnley has several good matches in sight for his man that should keep him a busy boy for the winter season. Sparks is right now in good enough shape to put up a torrid mill and by Tuesday, should be just-train to go. The referee has not yet ben selected. Billy Darnley, who is the club's official referee wishes to step aside on this occasion. Not that he wouldn't give the Bull a squash deal for in fact. Montana is perfectly willing to let Darnley act as the third man, but Darnley believes that an outsider for this occasion would meet with the better approval of the fans. If an official cannot be decided upon by the men by Monday night then Darnley will select one that will be perfectly satisfactory to all concerned. Montana appears to be a slight favorite aloft Sparks appears to have many supporters and they are backing him to the limit to beat the Bool. The added incentive of a $5,000 purse which goes to the winner will undoubtedly make both men hustle to win. A hard fought go is being looked forward to and it should give the fans hereabouts something to talk about for a long time to come. The ticket sale is now on at the United Cigar store 123 W. Myre 128 W. Center Phone 157. 90 DAYS AND $300 FINE IN RUM CASE Charged with transporting liquor, H. O. Huffer, 22, of the Clinton apartments, Santa Ann, was sentenced by City Recorder Heathman of that city to serve 90 days in the county jail and pay a fine of $300. If not paid, the fine will mean an additional 150 days in jail. Huffer, who has ben watched for some time by the police, was caught "with the goods" authorities said, as he alighted from an incoming Los Angeles car, on the Pacific Electric, City Marshal Sam Jernigan and J. L. Elliott met him and relieved him of a suitcase in which they alleged, they found four quarts of liquor. Huffer was escorted to jail. His arrest last night was planned when the officers, who had been suspecting him, saw him depart for Los Angeles. SPORT BRIEF'S Stockton has been selected as the 1322 training camp for the Seattle ball club. Jack Green and Eddie Lendowig meet tonight at Frisco. St. Louis National ball club will train next spring at Orange, Tex. With the announcement Capt. "Rap" Powers would be unable to start at center against Pomona Saturday. Occidental football hopes received another crushing blow today. Whittier's champ football team has U.S.C. worried. A few days ago the Trojans expected clear sailing. Now they're looking for a tough battle Saturday. The manner in which Whittier handled Pomona Friday has given the Cardinal and Gold crew something to think about and Coach Henderson is putting his huskies thru some stiff workouts. The death knell of professional boxing in Cleveland during the remainder of Mayor Fitzgerald's administration was sounded today. Penn State football team will play but one game on the Pacific coast, that with Univ. of Wash. Ty Cobb is leading the bitters of the Calif., Winter league with .399, Roger Hornsbry is .384 and Harry Hellmanx .381. The annual speed boat race for the Nordlinger trophy will take place in the outer San Pedro harbor Saturday and Sunday. PREFERS ALMSHOUSE NEW YORK, Nov. 19.—Thomas Proctor, in whose bed Abraham Lincoln died, in all probability, will spend the remainder of his life in the almshouse on Blackwell's island. Old friends of the former soldier started a fund to provide for Proctor in his old age, but Proctor himself is far from anxious to leave the almshouse. He said he has many friends in the almshouse, and fears to venture forth. "GIRL," 110, BOBS HAIR NEW YORK, Nov. 19.—"All the girls wear their hair bobbed," explained one of the girls at the Israel Home for the Aged as she called the barber. This girl is 110 years old. She wants her name withheld as she's bashful. BRYAN ON ADVERTISING It is the lot of the wise man to be asked fool questions. In fact, the asking is an acknowledgement of the wisdom of whom the inquiry is made. Nobody ever asks a fool question of a fool for a fool answers a fool according to his folly, and there is no question whereto ask honestly wants a wise answer as a fool question. This being so, the man who asked William Jennings Bryan whether he really believed in advertising paid Mr. Bryan a compliment. FOR SALE 20 acres (1744 trees) which unquestionably stands unchallenged as the best orange grove in this section. A grove with a record, a grove with a future There is not one weak feature attached to this offering Upon inspection one becomes impressed with the size of the trees their vigor health When metropolitan newspapers throughout the north and central Pacific Coast region have been voluntarily according front page space to their reviews of the alluring recital by all three noted Edison recording artists now on Anaheim's immediate horizon, it is reasonable to assume that there must be something in their offering that is distinctly out of the beaten track. For the moment, E. J. and C. J. Dunham, and A. L. Knipe, collectively step out of the role of merchant into the role of musical impresario. Press reports from up north indicate that the music loving population of Anaheim and vicinity will be distinctly the gainer as the result of this transformation. There is that about a famous record artist, particularly one whose name is linked with that of the man who invented the phonograph, that holds a peculiar glamour not possessed by artists whose voices have not been perpetuated for posterity. When the appearance of such an artist, in the flesh, occurs and with it the most fascinating, baffling and scientific test of musical realism in recording that the American public has had an opportunity to hear, the attraction is doubled. Over 5,000,000 critical American music lovers have heard Edison artists do precisely what Helen Clark, contralto, and Joseph Phillips, baritone, and Thomas George, pianist, will do in the Anaheim High school auditorium, Wednesday evening, Nov. 30—and thus far not one disinterested person has come forward with the claim that he or she was able to tell the difference between the real and re-created voice, with eyes closed; or without watching the lips to detect when the artist stopped and started singing in person. The logical inference to be drawn from these statistics is that it can't be done. "Going into the concert game," said Dunham yesterday, "is vastly different from the merchandising business, but it's fascinating. We had a bit quite of this sort of experience in the Middle West, and can assure Anaheim that from our past knowledge of the sort of joy that Edison artists invariably bring along with them, we'll undertake to stage a recital by artists whenever we can connect with a booking. Some people try to makke "Noah's Ark" of their backyard. Sensible Advertising We believe in Real Estate at or near Anaheim, and we believe in advertising, but that is not all that we believe in.
