Captain Haines Seen at the "Autodrome" in Auto Races
That a carnival can be full of fun and innocent amusement yet be free from all objectionable features that are frowned on by the better element is fully born out by the aggregation of shows and rides exhibiting at Los Angeles and Broadway this week under the banner of the American Legion, and in consequence a large crowd greeted the performances last night and then splendid patronage accorded the various shows and rides of the organization is proof that the public is ever ready to lend their support to legitimate amusement.
Among the many thrills and novelties offered the visitor first and most worthy of mention was the trained wild animal arena where Capt. Hart, Princess Tessie and Mile, Aggie presented wild animal acts that brot rounds and rounds of applause from the crowds that filled the tent many times during the evening. The auto drome where the mile-a-minute girl raced her partner Capt. Haines was the centre of interest to hundreds who stood amazed at her daring performance. The "Jountcel Girls" were recorded liberal patronage during the evening and won commendation from every one who saw the show.
Then there was the Geo. Ministrels, circus side show and many others all adding their quota of the evenings entertainment. It is a matter of note too that the riding devices are the most complete and novel and many people availed themselves of the opportunities offered to enjoy the thrills that go with a ride on the aerial swings or whip.

There is a road show of standard high-class Meiklejohn and Dunn vaudeville acts at the California today. The program is headed by Jean Conde, singing her own restricted songs. Her clever original songs are always a hit, including "The Rose of Old St. Louis." There are singers, dancers, comedians, musicians, and novelties. Also, Lester Cuneo is seen in "Blue Blazes."
MACHINE SLICES AND WEIGHS HAM
Stroup's meat market on No. Los Angeles-st., has just received a very convenient and novel bit of equipment in the way of a machine that slices, stacks and weighs ham, all at the same time, giving a uniform thickness of slices. It is of the latest type, said to be one of the few that have been obtained by meat markets west of the Rocky Mountains. It was received Tuesday and was put in use for the first time yesterday. The first one to be obtained in So. Cal. was recently obtained by the Reeden Packing Co. of Los Angeles.

20 acres (1744 trees) which unquestionably stands unchallenged as the best orange grove in this section. A grove with a record, a grove with a future. There is not one weak feature attached to this offering.
Upon inspection one becomes impressed with the size of the trees their vigor, health and thrift condition. The soil is of the finest, setting indicates that if will be one of the heaviest producing 20 acres in Orange-co. This is a grove which has received not only the best of care, but all work has been done by the owners themselves. Its location is ideal, situated in city limits, 3 blocks from the new postoffice, with frontage on 3 streets.
The only reason this splendid grove is on the market is due to one of the owners being desirous of returning east. It is offered for sale at a ridiculously low figure, and we are prepared to produce figures which will show an income of 22 per cent.
This is your one big opportunity to purchase a grove which is now increasing in value. Don't wait until the fruit colors up. Don't wait until the owners change their minds but buy now.

The street work being done here makes the road quite narrow, and a steep embankment at the side makes it a dangerous spot. Mr. Scott just escaped going over.
Mrs. Delphia Redfern entertained friends from the old home town Saturday and over the week-end when Mr. and Mrs. Crowder Benedict, and their nephew, Virgill Marshall of Jet Oklahoma, accompanied by another former Oklahomaoman, Mrs. John Dunnawan of Pomona, were her guests.
When Mr. O. Blankenbiller parked his Ford on Center-st at the other night while he and his wife did some shopping he fully expected to find it standing right there when they returned. Discovering his loss he inquired for the police station, when he saw the car being driven down the street, giving chase; he jumped on the running board of a passing motor car thereby giving the occupant a thrill when they thought they were being held up. On explaining his plight, chase was given and when opposite, Mr. Blankenbiller jumped in back of his car, and ordered the drivers, two boys, to go to the police station. After some demur,他们 compiled and Mr. Blankenbiller beautiful grove will feel greatly satisfied especially when the fruit colors up. Better look into this before it is too late.

LA HABRA, Nov. 17.—(Spl.) At the close of the walnut season of the Des Moines packing house it has been custom to celebrate with a deep sea fishing trip. On explaining his plight, chase was given and when opposite, Mr. Blankenbiller, jumped in back of his car, and ordered the drivers, two boys, to go to the police station.
