INVITES MANY CHILDREN TO BIRTHDAY PARTY LITTLE MISS BERNICE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold W. Walker, completed her eighth year of her happy little life Saturday, and, assisted by her mother and some older friends, she entertained a party of almost two dozen small boys and girls. As Bernice had lived at Talbert a few years ago, she remembered her little friends in that place with invitations as well as some others from Santa Ana and Long Beach. The children played "drop the handkerchief" and a lot of out of door games, and were happily entertaining themselves when they received the invitation to enjoy light refreshments of jello, three kinds of home made cakes and home made candy. Of course the biggest and loveliest cake was the birthday cake, which was the gift of a grown-up friend, Mrs. Gibbs. It was all covered with white icing, and carried eight tiny tapers, which Miss Bernice ill and extinguished with all due dignity. Bernice was the recipient of many pretty gifts from her older friends as well as from the small ones. Present at the party from Talbert were Julian, Corinna and Jean Legrivian, Louise, Helen, Muriel and Donald Wardlow, Dorothy Woodson; from Compton, Harry Heeock, Pearl and George Nichols; from Santa Ana, Carl, Earl and Martha Planchon; Verleen Jones from Long Beach, and Malcom Gibbs, Helen Lough, Margaret Lough, Albert and Evelyn Sposito, and Eleanor Walker. The older guest list included Mrs. Wardlow, Mrs. Lecrivian, Mrs. Ward Mrs. Heeock, Mrs. Nichols, Mrs. Planchon, Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Sponsite. SHERWOOD MUSIC CLUB The members of the Sherwood Music club formed a jolly picnic party at Orange county park Saturday. They were chaperoned by their teachers who chose Stella A. Schroeder program for the boys at the camp. Music was furnished by Miss Mabel Mitchell at the piano. Lawrence Mitchell on the violin and Fred Krusel playing the saxophone. Miss Evelyn Magathan recited several of her good readings. Contrary to their expectations, there were more boys there than were expected, because upon hearing the music they all came into the hall to listen. Mrs. Fred Mitchell accompanied the quartet over there. This is the second of the delightful entertainments that the same crowd has given the boys, and they are very much appreciated. FIDELIS CLASS ALL-DAY MEET The Fidelis class will hold the regular all-day session Tuesday, Nov. 22, in the church parlor. All members of the class are asked to come out for the day, but if this is impossible with any, they are urged too attend during the afternoon. The ladies of the class entered 15 cars in the Sunday School parade last Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Wm. Brown, class teacher, had offered a prize for the car which bore the best decorations and after consideration the prize was awarded to Mrs. Cook. The banner carried was made by Mrs. P. Holms, another member of the class. BIRTHDAY CLUB ASKS HUSBANDS To honor the birthday anniversary of Mrs. E. A. Sparkes, a merry crowd gathered at her home for an all day picnic. Mrs. Sparkes is a member of the Birthday club which was expected to meet in the afternoon, but the ladies came in the morning and brought their husbands. At noon a very delicious dinner was served, covers being laid for the Misses and Mesdames Robert Sparkes, C.'G. Sparkes, Bert Annin of Fullerton, Jack Annin, Sam Snodgrass; Mrs. A. E. Annin, Mrs Herbert Rugles, Mrs. Rollo McClelland, William Ryan, the Misses Lena Weiss, Gertrude Thompson, Marjorie Aninni, La Var and Beth Annin; Alice Smole; Jack Clemmens, the host and hostess E. A. Sparkes and Misses Callye and Philura Sparkes and the honored guest, Mrs. E. A. Sparkes. LEGION CARNIVAL AT BREA SUCCESS NOTICE To the membership of Local No. 2280. They were chaperoned by their teachers, then Misses Stella A. Schweitzer and Miss Edpa Hochuli, and Mrs. Reinert, Mrs. Thayer and Mrs. Mauerhan. A great deal of fun on the slides, swings, etc., helped work up appetites for the picnic lunch, as did a hike over the hills. All did justice to the good things prepared and also to the large freezer of ice cream generously donated by Mrs. Reinert. After lunch a long hike through the canyons and up the hills was enjoyed. Upon returning to the park all were again served with ice cream. It was such a glorious day that all were reluctant to leave for their homes as evening approached. OIL BOYS GIVEN TREAT A number of people from Anaheim, Whittier and La Habra motored to the Emery Lease last evening where they joined their husbands in the oil wells and at supper time all enjoyed an old fashioned basket lunch. After the supper all went to the recreation hall and there gave a short LEGION CARNIVAL AT BREA SUCCESS The three days of fun making and merriment at Brea are over and the thriving oil town has once more settled to its routine. The affair was to mark a home coming celebration for the soldiers. Only a very few of the attractions were out of town talent; most were confined to the people of Brea. The Brea band gave a concert each evening, which was greatly enjoyed by all. The end of the fun on the street was followed by a dance in the Sewell hall, on Saturday evening. Serpentines and confetti were used in great abundance, so much that the floor could scarcely be seen. The officials of the legion are very much pleased over the crowds and the financial returns.
