LARGE CLASS IS CONFIRMED BY BISHOP CANTWELL
A most beautiful and impressive ceremony and service occurred yesterday morning in St. Boniface church, when a class of more than one hundred candidates was confirmed, the Right Rev. J. J. Cantwell, D. D., Bishop of Monterey and Los Angeles, officiating. This is the first occasion of the kind within the past three years and was most important in the large number confirmed and the notables who were in attendance.
The music was especially fine, the choir being a large one and composed of sopranos, Mesdames Efker and Stoffel and the Misses Carter, Dennelly, Dresser and Ricker; alto, Mrs. Ray Fisher and Miss Rose Donnelly; tenors, Messrs Beegar, Efker, Salschneider, Syre; bass, Reeske, Backs and Bonder. The soloists were Miss Carter, Mrs. Fisher, Mr. Efker and Mr. Beegar. "Marzo Mass in G" was rendered by this personnel, Offertory, "O! Falutaris," bass solo, Mr. Reeske Veni Creator and Ecce Facerdos, Mrs. Fisher.
Immediately after solemn high mass by Rev. Wm. Brennan, eclebrant, the Right Rev. Bishop Cantwell administered the sacrament of confirmation, assisted by Mgr. J. Cauley, chancellor of the Bishop. Other dignitaries present were Rev. J. Reardon, of Long Beach, master of ceremony; Rev. M. Ryan, deacon; Rev. Eumelin, sub deacon, of Santa Ana, and Rev. Brown, rector of St. Boniface.
The altar was effectively decorated with white chrysanthhemums. The vestments worn by Bishop Cantwell were wonderfully rich. The boys in their suits of dark with white symbols on the arm, and the girls in white, wearing veils, presented a dignified and impressive appearance.
Composing the class were the following named: John Daly, Timothy Wells.
MUSIC STUDY CLUB MEETS
The Sherwood Music Study club met last Saturday afternoon at the home of Miss Stella A. Schwentker. Its regular monthly meetings are held at the homes of Miss Schwentker and Miss Edna Hochuil, who have charge of the Anaheim branch of the Sherwood Music School of Chicago.
An hour of each meeting is devoted to class work, in which the theory and other work of the Sherwood course is taught by the teachers. This work is especially helpful in producing better results and quicker work of going through the course, besides making it still more interesting for the students. A short business meeting was also held.
At each meeting an assisting host or hostess has charge of the social hour and a special treat was in store for the members when Afton Reinert, the host for this meeting, announced that his mother wanted the club to come to her home for the social hour. A delightful time was had and all appreciated her hospitality and also the delicious home-made ice cream and cakes which were served at the close of the afternoon's pleasure.
