HEAVY DEMAND FOR CHEVROLETS NOW
"Chevrolets are much in demand these days," states Frank P. Taggart, dealer for this motor product in northern Orange county. "In fact, the orders are coming so thick and fast that conditions savor of the good old days some two or three years ago, when it was necessary to go to the factory and drive away the cars under their own power in order to improve delivery. During the past few weeks it has been necessary to resort to this method on several occasions and on the return trip to Fullerton from the Oakland factory we have had ample opportunity to fully test the temper of the new refined Chevrolet.
"Needless to say the records thus obtained have proved more than satisfactory. The outstanding feature is the wonderful gasoline mileage, a mileage which is lauded in the advertising of many other makes of automobiles as phenomenal."
John Van Buren and Earnest Hauser have just returned from Oakland, each piloting a Chevrolet "490." Their total expense for the two cars as turned in to G. M. Goodale, cashier and bookkeeper for the Taggart organization, was $6.86, or an average of $3.43 for each car. Plenty of gasoline still remained in the tanks of the cars on their arrival in Fullerton, but using sixteen gallons—the amount of fuel placed in each car—as the bases of an estimate, the individual average was twenty-six miles to the gallon. It was not necessary to replenish the supply of oil after leaving the factory dock.
"With the many new refinements which are now exhibited on the Chevrolet and the new low price, can you wonder that people are anxious to get behind the wheel of this excellent car?" is the question that Mr. Taggart is asking.

What is the greatest drain on an automobile storage battery operating the starting motor.
Mr. Cecil, of the Automotive Electric Co., USL Service Station representative for this locality says that under no condition should this motor be used in running the car. If it is, permanent damage may result to the battery.
"The storage battery is not too intricate mechanism for the motorist to master at least its fundamentals. For example, he should know a little more than merely keeping the plates covered with electrolyte by adding pure distilled water occasionally. He should know something about electrolyte and how battery plates wear out. He should understand the normal specific gravity of this fluid, so that he will have a battery recharged and the conditions affecting it rectified before it is too late.
"Furthermore, he should be able to recognize the difference between up-to-date machine-pasted plates and the old style hand-made plates. The greater pressure used in the manufacture of machine-pasted plates and the resultant greater density and tougher structure make these plates more durable. They are able to resist longer the wearing out action to which they are subjected."
$11,000 JURY AWARD IN AUTO CRASH CASE
Stay of execution, until ruling is made by the court on motion for a new trial, was yesterday granted to A. N. Cox, of Santa Ana, against whom a jury in Judge Williams' superior court late yesterday awarded damages totaling $11,112.60, approximately half of the amount asked by Mrs. Blanche Newton, and her husband, Noel Newton, for injuries and damages alleged to have been received in an automobile accident.
Of the sum allowed, $8,000 was awarded to Mrs. Newton and the remainder to her husband. The amount was given for injuries received in an automobile collision Nov. 1, 1920, at the corner of Grand avenue and Seventeenth streets, northeast of Santa Ana, when the automobile in which Newton and his wife were riding, was struck and upset by an automobile driven by Cox.
What can be accomplished in a short time by a husky young motor car when it really sets out to do things is shown by the two-year record of the Velle Light Six, which had its second birth anniversary this week. In telling of the record of this Velle youngster McGraw Bros., Velle distributors, said the general progress of the entire automotive world is exemplified in the achievements and records made by ythis comparatively new member of the famous Velle family of motor cars.
"The Velie Model 34 began its career with a sort of baptism of fire in the big forest fire in the Angelus National Forest reserve two years ago."
CHIROPRACTORS ARE AWAITING TRIAL
Testimony given before Justice J. B. Cox against Drs. A. D. Anderson, J. A. Hatch and J. G. Kelley, chiropractors, was complimentary, but it also was effective, as they were today awaiting trial in the superior court on charges of practicing healing without a license from the state board of medical examiners. Each has posted $100 bail for his appearance.
A small group of interested spectators in Justice Cox's court watched the prosecution of the chiropractors for failure to solve the puzzle of how to get something they are forbidden to have—a state license. They, as well as the witnesses called to testify against the chiropractors, seemed to have a keen sympathy for the defendants. One white haired old man, in particular, punctuated each complimentary bit of evidence with hearty grunts, apparently of approval.
Words of the witnesses on the stand might have been considered not only as testimony but as testimonials. The case of Dr. Anderson was typical of all three.
R. O. Smith, farmer, was being questioned by Deputy Dist. Atty C. N. Mozley, and also by Griffith Jones, Los Angeles attorney, who defended the chiropractors.
Smith testified that he had paid Dr. Anderson $36 for 24 "adjust-

"A few weeks later the Velle 34 was the first automobile owned in Southern California to get into Yosemite valley, over the difficult Wawona road in 1920, and this great battle against deep mud, snow, fallen visits Grand Canyon
"Then came the crowning achievement of all. The Velle left Los Angeles one morning with four passengers and a heavy load of camping equipment, headed castward. When it returned a fortnight later it had made what is considered by many well-informed motorists the greatest of all motor car test runs—the successful trip down into the bottom of the Grand canyon from the rim, the difficult run along the bottom of the great gorge to the very edge of the Colorado river, and the stiff upward climb under its own power that brought the Velle back up to the rim again. And the entire run from Los Angeles, down into the canyon, back up again and back to Los Angeles was made without the addition of a single drop of water to the Velle's radiator after the car left Los Angeles."
TRIAL DATE RESET IN BOOZE LURE CASE
With one of the defendants, Wilbur Counts, released today on $500 bail, the second trial of counts Claude Gammon and Chester Percy, was set by Judge Z. B. West, in the superior court, for Jan. 9 and 10. Gammon and Percy remained in the county jail in default of their bail, $500 each.
Bail for Counts was furnished after the court had agreed that it mentions" and had been relieved of hay fever.
Attorney Jones directed his cross-examination of witnesses to securing an expression from them, describing their treatment from the chiropractor as "a massage motion." Then he argued strenuously for dismissal of the action on the ground that the witnesses who had testified could not be termed "sick and afflicted."
The court overruled the motion for dismissal.
The district attorney's office was assisted in conducting the examination of witnesses by H. J. Castellaw, special agent for the state board of medical examiners.

RESPOND QUICKLY TO QUIZ SUMMONS
Alarcity in responding to summons from Elmer B. Burns, deputy collector of internal revenue, has characterized most of the county income tax delinquents who are being questioned about alleged irregularities in their tax returns. Approximately a score have been questioned by Burns this week while probably six times that number are expected to appear for questioning next week, it was stated today.
Notices summoning the delinquents were sent out Tuesday, but a number are responding to adult letters sent from Washington and Los Angeles.
Most of the irregularities, according to Burns, were caused by the failure of taxpayers to consider the depreciation of improved property at the time of transfer or sale.
LUMBER JACKS WORK FOR PRE-WAR WAGES
QUEBEC, Nov. 5—In an effort to stimulate revival of building, now at the lowest ebb in the history of Canada, lumber companies in northern Ontario and Quebec have reduced wages of lumberjacks to pre-war levels. Radical reductions in lumber prices are expected.

“Just now the Velle is sighing for new worlds to conquer. If it can accomplish so much in the first year of its existence what will the collection of Velle medals and cups look like a few years hence? But best of all the achievements of this Velle 34 are just the gauge of progress that is being made throughout the whole automotive world. Progress is marked by achievement, and these Velle records are proof that better motor cars are being made today than were ever made in the entire past history of the gasoline engine.”
