HALLOWE'EN PARTY AT GARDEN GROVE GARDEN GROVE, Nov. 4.—The Kings Daughter class of the Baptist church entertained the Men's Bible class with a Hallowe'en masquerade social, at the G. L. Beardsley home last Friday evening. About 30 guests gathered in various costumes to celebrate the holiday. The rooms were decorated with witches, black cats and pumpkins. Shaded lights helped to give the place a spooky appearance. Hallowe'en games including fortune telling, auto apple and peanut races and guessing games were played causing much merriment. Music was played while a guessing game as to the identity of the maskers was played. A luncheon of sandwiches, cottage cheese, pickles, doughnuts, pie and coffee was enjoyed. A merry crowd of Epworthians gathered at the M. E. church Friday evening attired in masquerade costumes to enjoy a Hallowe'en social. They all hiked from the church to the W. M. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Pollins entertained about 16 of their Garden Grove and Santa Ana friends with a Hallowe'en barn prty Monday night. The upstairs of the barn was decorated in true Hallowe'en style with cornstalks, landerns and pumpkins. Games and Vietrola music helped to make up the evening's pleasure. Refreshments of apples, pop corn, pumpkin pie and sweet cider were served at a late hour. Mrs. Susan Chaffe and Mrs. Bell Helm of Pasadena spent Tuesday in Long Beach. May I reach them occasionally, through your columns? I have an idea this call for volunteers might not hurt Anaheim but that is "up to them." To Friends of the Red Cross: This is an appeal for volunteer workers—urgent appeal. We need you—need you badly. I have helped in all the four roll calls—having charge of two. There is more good feeling toward the Red Cross than I ever saw but, at same time, it is proving to be the hardest, by far. Every body is so busy, busy. My introduction "I represent the Red Cross" opens wide every door—no exceptions but they are really no busy. Thus I go from house to house for workers. I have spent enough time to have organized the whole district but do not seem "to get anywhere. I have often read and heard pupils recite the famous story of the great Scotch leader who called for a certain number of volunteers for a death task and turned his back and said, "Any who will volunteer, take three steps forward. Turning around, he saw a solid front and asked, 'Are there no brave?' He was advised, 'Every one stepped three steps.' They do not have to read history for this. It happened, over and over again, in our camps right here and in nearly if not quite every camp. They could not call for any certain limited number and get them, without taking the whole company. Now, the "Great Mother in Peace and war" is trying among thousands of other things, to teach thousands of these same brave boys to make a living without eyes, hand etc. I call for volunteers. I want workers in every section of this district. Will you? High school and junior college girls can help. I wish boys to go to every drilling rig in the newer sections. I wish all the former workers I can get. I thought to have seen them all before now. Do not wait for me. Send in your name, if you can help. New workers, please do not wait for them. As wonderfully efficient as they were, there may be better right by them, unthought of. I think this so important that I am giving all my time and lots of expense. I seriously need both. Will you please try to spare just a few hours? Please "Volunteer" now. Praternally. W. STARBUCK, Chairman Fifth Red Cross Roll Call for Fullerton section. DR. BIGHAM BEFORE BUENA PARK P.-T. A.
