SANDBURG PET. COOP NO. 1 MAKES FLOW Long Beach The Sandburg Petroleum's Co-operative No. 1 stopped drilling at 3230, was cleaned out to bottom and looks like it will make a 250 or possibly a 300-barrel well. Sandburg No. 1 is pulling the eight-inch and will re-set and cement at 2840. Water trouble has prevented Sandburg's first venture from coming into production for a month or more. While there is some criticism on the operations of the Sandburg Petroleum Co. the outlook for the concern is really better now than ever before. Sandburg stepped into the oil business expecting to make a big showing in a hurry. He has found that the oil business is a regular business and takes lots of time and patience. The Shell Co. of Calif. is the busiest concern on Signal Hill and is leading development work with 14 wells underway. At Alamitos No. 2 is now drilling at 3000 feet in the sandy brown shale. Alamitos No. 3 at 3200 is showing lots of oil and gas and looks like the Shell's next producer. Horsch No. 1 continues to make its 400 barrels with ease. Jones No. 1 is drilling at 2975 in sandy brown shale, and Jones No. 2 is a rig. Martin No. 1 shows 2100 feet of hole. Nesa No. 1 is still up at 2730 milling on an eight-inch shoe. Patton-Wilson No. 1 is a rig. Pickler No. 1 cleaned out to 2525 and is to be re-cemented. Stakeniller No. 1 is a clean hole again and is drilling ahead at 3100. Wilbur No. 1 shows 2675 feet in sandy shale. The Shell's new wells for the week are Goddard No. 1 and Hutton Community No. 1. Drilling at 2830 feet the California-Metican Petroleum Syndicate struck a nice showing of oil and is now making preparations to set the pipe at 2821 feet. A core run ahead showed the "pay" and lots of oil. SOMETIME (With apologies to Eugene Field) Last night, my Buick, as you slept, I thot I heard you sigh. And out to your garage I crept, And watched a space thereby; Then, bending down, I oiled you up, For, oh! I love you so— You are too new to know it now, But some time you shall know. Some time, when, on a muddy road, Where many cars are stuck, You'll see the others all get towed While you'll sail thru the muck; Your engine fine will carry you Where're you want to go— You are too new to know it now, But some time you shall know. Your usefulness for many years Will prove a great delight. And do not be oppressed with fears That I'll not treat you right. I'll keep you full of oil and gas Andshine you till you glow— You are too new to know it now, But some time you shall know. A. Hazel Knut. showings and should make good. The Standard Oil Co.'s Bixby No. 1 now drilling at 5525 is the deepest well now drilling in the Long Beach field and will stand as the field's deep test well. Todate this well has not shown any indications of oil and will no doubt be a duster. Drilling at Alamitos No. 1 is now at 2600 and good time is being made. On the new properties lying midway between Huntington Beacon and Long Beach the Standard has commenced operations. Sylvester No. 1 spudded in and shows 1000 feet. Long Beach Trust and Savings Bank No. 1 spudded in early in the week and is now at 100. Drilling on the Lomita Land & Water Co.'s property is ready to start. Drilling to 3000 feet the Walker-Western put in 2990 feet of 10-inch and made what looks like a perfect formation shutoff. The United Oil Co. is loosening and pulling the eight-inch string at Denni No. 1 and will carry the pipe on to 2650, 100 feet deeper. Drilling on Denni No. 2 is now at 2200 in hard sand. Jones No. 1 still stands a rig. Attempts to shut off water were made at 3307. Oceanic will go into production as soon as the water problem has been solved. The San Martenas Oil Co. has both its Signal Hill wells standing cemented. Los Angeles St. Anaheim USED CAR PRICES OFF WITH NEW ONES "The cut in prices of the various makes of new automobiles," says Bob Vincent, of the Anaheim Auto Co., "causes the most difficult problem in the automobile 'game,' which is to place the correct value on the used cars which have been taken in trade. "The price cut on new cars naturally means a cut on used cars, without consideration of the price at which the used car was taken in. For example, in making a price adjustment on a used car we can not take into allowance the amount allowed in trade, but must place the car at a price which the public thinks is a fair value. "This has been done in pricing our used cars for our sale now in progress, for irrespective of original appraisement, we are placing our entire stock of cars on the flor at prices which cannot help but appeal to the most conservative buyer. "Also our ability to finance our paper thru the General Motors Acceptance Corp., enables our customers to secure the lowest interest rates in the country, making a payment plan within the reach of every one." FRENCH BLUEBEARD TO FACE TRIAL SOON PARIS, Nov. 3.—Landru, France's Bluebeard, accused of murdering 12 women to rob them after promising to marry them, has but little grace before he comes up for trial. He is due to appear during the November sessions in the Seine et Oise department, the affair having been transferred to this jurisdiction because it is claimed the murders took place in his Gambais villa, situated in that department. Landru, despite all accusations formulated against him, is still the subject of all conversations in feminine circles in France and is a center of admiration for French women. Since his imprisonment Landru has received scores of letters daily from women admirers. Some of these missives are full of passionate declarations to the prisoner. "Have courage, dear Landru, an admirer awaits your release to console and comfort you," read one letter. Another ended, "Yours unto death even in an oven!" Landru is stated to have while of a rattler. The story-teller who was talking to a bunch of men in a local-barber shop, stated that he was driving a truck across the deserts when he saw one of these birds hovering about a rattlesnake, and he watched the encounter. The bird piled thorny cactus burs about the snake, madden-br CALIFORNIA THEATRE A Brant Vaudeville ing BE SUR M PR Enroll now for our fall term. Individual instruction. Positions for graduates.
