TED KUCHEL WILL PLAY AGAINST U. C. Ted Kuchel, of Anaheim, is the only Orange-co boy on the U. S. C. football team that leaves Los Angeles Thursday evening for the big battle with U. of C., at Berkeley Saturday to decide the championship of the Pacific coast and who will be the west's contender in the annual east-west classic at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses New Year's day. "Swede" Evans, another U. S. C. hunky, is claimed by Fullerton since his mother recently moved there, but Ted is the only honest-to-goodness Orange-co boy on the team. Ted plays center, his 260 pounds to which he is trained down, permitting him to do that little thing very well. Last year he held down the pivotal position on the U. S. C. frosh and this year he was in the varsity line in the navy, Oxy and Pomona games. Despite his weight he crowds 10 seconds for the 100. He is the son of Henry Kuchel, veteran editor of The Gazette. PAPKE DODGES BOUT IN S. A. WITH NEFF Cord Jeff, hard hitting Seattle light-weight boxer, must have hung the Indian sign on Young Papke. The Delhi Athletic club had hoped to secure the services of those two athletes for the main event of its re-opening under the management of Tommy Quinlan. All went well until Quinlan tried to get Young Papke to sign on the dotted line. That's as far as the negotiations got. Young Papke, in no uncertain way, said he would fight anyone Tommy picked—except Chet Neff. Billy Capell saved the day by volunteering to fight the slugger from the North. Billy Capell comes to Santa Ana with a good record and has high hopes of dragging another victory back to Vernon with him. ANAHEIM TO PLAY AT ORANGE FRIDAY VULCANIZERS KNOCK MOST BUT DROP 2 The Vulcanizers got the most pins last night in the City League Flowing toppling 2212 to 2201 by the Dew Drop Inns, but the latter walked off with two out of three games. Doc James—the noble captain, failed to show up and he couldn't keep the Vulcanizers' pins apportioned correctly. Tridie & Tridie walked off with three straight from Five Points. ANAHEIM TO PLAY AT ORANGE FRIDAY Anaheim, feeling its oats after the overwhelming defeat of Whittier last week, is making plans to repeat against Orange on the latter's gridiron Friday. As up the Whittler game, Anaheim will find itself matched against a team of corresponding weight and experience. This and the Fullerton games constitute the remainder of the Orange league schedule for Anaheim. The Plain Dealer for Good Printing FAST CARD REOPENS ARENA AT DELHI Tommy Quinlan, who has taken over the Delhi boxing arena, will reopen tomorrow evening with the following card: Main event—Chet Neff vs. Billy Capell; semi-windup — Kid Lopie vs. Young Garela. Louie got the K. O. from Garela in the second round of the last legion program here two weeks ago. Preliminaries—K. O. Swall vs. Sam Casper; Young Burton of Anaheil vs. Kid Young, of Long Beach; Young Herrara vs. Battling Rose. PROVE THE SPEEDIER In a series of contests at Chicago between gasoline and steam road rollers of the same weight the former proved the speedier and more powerful. It was time to wake up, all right MY BRAIN was busy. BUILDING AIR castles. FOR I wasn't sleepy. FINALLY I dozed off. AND PROMPTLY dreamed. THAT I was awake. BUT WOKE right up. AND FOUND I was asleep. THEN I got thinking. OF A wonderful formula. FOR MAKING cigarettes. I PLANNED it all out. SO MUCH Turkish tobacco. BLENDED JUST so with Burley. AND OTHER Domestic leaf. AND I knew that blend. WOULD MAKE a hit. I COULD just see. CROWDS OF happy people. THRONGING INTO stores SO MUCH Turkish tobacco. BLENDED JUST so with Burley. AND OTHER Domestic leaf, AND I knew that blend. WOULD MAKE a hit. I COULD just see. CROWDS OF happy people. THRONGING INTO stores TO BUY that cigarette. THEN LIGHTING up. SMACKING THEIR lips. AND SAYING, "Oh, Boy. IT'S THE exact copy. OF THAT 'Satisfy' blend." AND THEN I came to. AND SAID to myself. "THIS TIME you're dreaming. FOR SURE. WAKE UP, you darn fool. WHY, THAT 'Satisfy' blend. SIMPLY CAN'T be copied." FAST CARD LINED UP FRIDAY NIGHT For next Friday's weekly goings out at Sparks' fistic farm, Matchmaker Billy Darnley is arranging a card of four-round bouts that he expects will knock the fans dizzy. For the feature event he has signed Johnny Meyer, the fighting fireman from Glendale, to try conclusions with Young Stanley Ketchell, the fighting cowboy who hails from the wilds of Montana and who fights just like his old namesake. Meyer is a great favorite with local boxing bugs as he always gives the crowd a real fight. His two goes here with Bert Tribby and Kid Mexico, which were real battle, will never be forgotten by local fans. Meyer is a fast, clever, heady, fighter, with a good wallop besides, and he will find in Ketchell another ready willing customer who seldom falls to produce. Ketchell will be remembered for his good work here some time back when he almost fought Kid Mexico off his feet in four of the fastest rounds ever seen in a local ring only to lose the decision by the incompetent work of the judges. At any rate, he and Johnny Meyer ought to put up a battle that should be worth going miles to see. Both boys will be in the best shape possible to withstand a grilling pace. Jack Iman attempting a comeback and rough and tough customer from the oil fields around Olinda in the name of Bill Burns will try to do the same thing that old iron man Steve Dalton did a couple of weeks ago when he hung one on Big Jack and "The Birdies Sang." Burns has quite a rep. for rough-house work but he will have his hands full with Iman, for Jack is some rough and tumble pumpkins himself. It looks like it is going to be a regular battle. Three unusually good preliminaries have been lined up between boys who can and will produce. Young Burton, the flashy little darky of local fame, will try to show Clarence Rubidoux, the baby brother of the now famous Ad Rubidoux, just the roughest old time there could be had in their four-round set-to. Burton is not asking for anything easy. In fact, he wants to fight some real good boy higher up on the card just to show how really good he thinks he is. He will be obliged if he gets by Rubidoux. KANSAS CITY BANK DEPOSITS DECLINE KANSAS CITY, Nov. 1.—Country bank held by Kansas City have declined to the smallest total in the last seven or eight years. The deposits of the country banks here show a considerable decrease from the totals reported at the opening of the new crop year in July despite the record marketing of wheat and other new crop sales of the past three months. On the other hand, the deposits held there for interest other than country banks are making a very good showing. These deposits include some time funds to the credit of commercial institutions that apparently do not need their full amount of working capital for the present. Kansas City bankers account for the declines in country bank balances by the eagerness of farmers the low prices prevailing on many farm products. FOR RENT FOR RENT—2 room house, furnished.
