YUNGBLUTH WINDOW DISPLAY STRIKING It is no idle boast these days that Anaheim is a first-class city in every respect. One thing worth mentioning is the beautiful window displays seen about town. The window display portraying the spirit of Hallowe'en to be seen at F. A. Yungbluth's men's furnishing store the last week, had all the earmarks of the largest men's furnishings stores located in cities much larger than Anaheim. When the question was put to Sam Barker, the window trimmer for Yungbluth, as to just how he did it, he replied in the most reticent manner: "That is something very easily accomplished with the line of quality merchandise we carry." But it is readily believed Sam's hand had quite a little to do with it, also. Nell Shipman will be seen again tonight at the California in "The Girl From God's Country," a story of the great north woods. It is a tale you will never forget. There will also be appropriate musical selections by the famed California trio. Sessue Hayakawa will be seen at the Fairyland again tonight in "Where Lights Are Low," the story of a Chinese Prince who loved a beautiful maid. Eugene O'Brien will be seen at the Grand in "Is Life Worth Living," a Saturday Evening Post story. CAPITAL SOCIAL SET WELCOMES NORMALCY WASHINGTON, Oct. 29.— Society in the national capital is permitting itself to actually beam with joy. All reserve and calm dignity have been thrown off for the time being by the social set. President and Mrs. Harding are responsible. The White House has announced a list of winter entertainments and social Washington is happy, for it means that the nation's capital is going to have a social season that will mean that the nation's capital is go- and Washington has suffered from social stagnation since the inception of the Wilson administration nearly nine years ago. A goodly portion of Washington lives for the social whirl, and now it seems that this winter there will be something really worth living for. Most important to the social world is the fact that the White House is announcing that the old custom of a presidential reception on New Year's will be revived. CHINA ASKS ONLY TO BE ALLOWED TO EXIST China wants to preserve its national existence. This is all that the most ancient and the most populous country on the face of the earth asks from the conference on the limitation of armaments. Dr. Sze, China's minister to the United States, says that although his country "has been the victim of the worst forms of aggression," China is entering the conference "with amity for all and enmity toward none." That China should feel itself to be forced to importune the great powers of the western world and the one great Atlantic power separated from China by only a narrow neck of water, to give it the privilege of existing as a national entity—the privilege of living its own life without being dismembered, exploited and subjugated—that China, figuratively, should have to get down on its knees and be spared its national life—this is a spectacle infinitely pitilable. China should be let alone. Just because it has chosen the path of peace and has not chosen to become militaristic; does not excuse those who would take advantage of that country. China, ancient and honorable and long-suffering, deserves better from the rest of the world than that which has been given her. Let this railroad labor crisis be settled aright; let there be a just and equitable reduction of freight rates; and let Congress hurry its revision of taxation and tariffs, and this country would get a rebound toward economic normality and prosperity which would astonish the world. and has not chosen to become militaristic; does not excuse those who would take advantage of that country.
