BARDEEN CONTINUES
EFFORTS WITH NO. 1
Montebello Field
The Arcada Oil Co. is having great difficulty in getting the cement to set in its Montebello well. Four cementings have failed to shut off the water, the cement does not seem to set in any case. Work is being done on the preparation of special cement for the well. The well is 2975 feet deep and at this point the difficulty in shutting off water arose.
The percentage of water in the St. Helen's Eggleston No. 1, the big producer that started things three weeks ago, is increasing rapidly. A test shows that the production is running close to 40 per cent water. Efforts are being made to trace this water, and as soon as located the well will be re-cemented. The report on the gas last week was in error. The gas from the big well is testing our half gallon to a thousand cubic feet. The gas was previously reported as dry. On the Monterey properly adjoining the Eggleston, the St. Helen's is getting ready to carry Monterey No. 4 at one time a small producer at 2435 on to the deep sands and duplicate Eggleston No. 1. Monterey No. 6 is rigging up and a grade is being made for No. 7.
That the Standard Oil Co. intends to go ahead with development work at Montebello is evidenced by the fact that 4 new wells have just been located. On the Baldwin Hills lease the new locations include Nos. 59, 60 and 61. On the recently acquired Howard and Smith lease a location for the first well has been staked.
Development work on the Petroleum Midway’s Montebello property now includes three wells. At Baldwin 7-A drilling is at 2950 in hard sand. Baldwin No. 11 shows 2895 feet and redrilling. Prugh No. 9 at 3495 is fishing.
A fishing job is holding up the Western Pacific at $127. A string of tools are being sidetracked.
The Whiteside Oil Co., known in the earlier days of the field as the Montebello Oil Co., is working on No. 1 its deepest well. Drilled originally to 4040, the well was plugged back to $150 feet and at that depth is being cemented.

The Union Oil Co. in spite of the slow progress on the La Merced is the heaviest developer in the field. The Union has six wells drilling. La Merced No. 9, at 3063 is fishing. No. 17, at 2600, is reaming. No. 21, at 3050, is drilling in hard sand. No. 22 is in the hard sand at 3005 and No. 23 is drilling in the oil sand at 2625. No. 24 is a rig.

Bardeen continues his efforts to make No. 1 produce at 2260. The well has been cleaned out, swabbed, washed and everything done to make it produce, but yet it does not make good. The hole shows lots of oil, and looks like it could be made to produce without much trouble.
The work of assembling cable tool equipment and changing from the rotary has been accomplished by the Chino Corona United and the actual deepening of the hole is scheduled to begin before the end of the week.
Drilling stopped on the Mahala Oil and Gas Co.'s No. 1 at 4010 and preparations are now being made to bring what looks like the biggest wild well in Southern California. Drilling stopped after going thru 55 feet of the best looking oil sand ever taken from a well. The gas pressure has been a feature of the well for four hundred feet, the pressure being so strong that bailing could be done with a closed top bailer only. A string of ten-inch was set at 3700. From 3710 to 4010 the oil showings both in the shale and the sand have been of the most encouraging character. Screen pipe will cover this area. Actual swabbing and bringing in of the big well will be in order about Friday of this week. The Mahal is perhaps one of the most successfully仁nanced stock companies ever organized in the state. With a big well in sight and more thanirty thousand dollars reserve, capital the Mahaka represents something new and out of the ordinary in the realm of petroleum finance.
At 1334 the Pasadena Puente was satisfied with showings the well had made and set a string of ten inch pipe.

At 1324 the Pasadena Puente was satisfied with showings the well had made and set a string of ten inch pipe.
Drilling on the Pomona Oil Co.'s well is now at 3100 feet. The formation a brown sandy shale, is carrying some gas.
Drilling on the St. Helens Petroleum's Garnier No. 1 is going splendidly now. At 1600 the formation changed from hard shell to brown shale and good time is being made.
The Puente Hills Oil Co., the second oil company to go into the new field in the past two weeks, has a rig for its No. 1 up. Rigging up and drilling are scheduled to go ahead at once.
The Wonder Company Ltd., of Richfield, is now established in the Puente Hills district. On the recommendation of Robert Moran, one of California's leading geologists, the Wonder Company took a hundred acres of the Gardner property adjoining the St. Helens Petroleum.
