SPORTING EVENTS
MATCH SPAR WITH GEO. DREW FRIDAY
For next Friday's main event out at Sparks! Fistic Farm, Matchmaker Billy Darnley has signed up Jack Spar and that good colored boy, Geo. Drew, to battle four rounds that ought to prove a thriller. Spar by reason of his great showing last week against Bud Soules, whom he held to a draw after one of the fastest and most exciting contests ever witnessed here, has gained the right to figure in the feature event Race more and in Geo. Drew he is going up against one of if not the toughest 138-pounders on the coast. Drew has met and defeated some of the best boys of his weight. There is one thing about him and that is, he never is known to back up once he starts. There is no letup and action is his middle name. He and Spar should put up just about the greatest old battle that Anaheim boxing bugs have ever had the pleasure to witness. Both are in earnest training and will, no doubt, be in tip-top shape to go thrue the four rounds at a fast and exciting pace.
The semi-windup, too, promises some interesting work for when that old bird, Chic Brown, of Huntington Beach, and Eddie Mackey, of Los Angeles, tangle the fur is sure to fly. Brown made a splendid impression here a couple of weeks ago when he stopped Kid Lamb of Sum Bernardino in less than a round. He displayed a lot of his old-time cleverness and the old punch was very much in evidence. Mackey, his opponent for Friday, is also a clever, shifty performer and packs a good, healthy wallop as well. Chick is anxious for a win as he is looking forward to a main event.
WILSON GOES EAST TO BUY BIG YACHT
Newport harbor, already the home of numbers of fine yachts and pleasure boats, will receive another notable addition to its pleasure fleet about Feb. 1 in the form of a yacht larger than any now in the bay. Such was the declaration at Newport Beach today, when it was learned that P. H. L. (Doc) Wilson is leaving for New York City to purchase and bring to the local port one of the finest yachts available, probably about 150 to 175 feet long.
Wilson, who will leave today or tomorrow, for the east, will go as the agent for a member of the famous Spaulding sporting goods family with instructions to buy the best available yacht, and he already has three or four in view. After the purchase, Wilson will bring the boat turru the Panama canal to Balboa, leaving New York probably the middle of December and arriving home about Feb. 1.
Incusions with Teddy O'Brien, who hails from the raisin town called Fresno. O'Brien is a very clever lad with his mitts and will make Bennie step fast all the way. Helter, when matched with a man of his own weight, always puts up a hurricane mill and generally slips over the K. O. on his man before the four rounds are over with. For a boy of his weight, Young Heller certainly is the proud possessor of an A-1 wallop that spells curtains for his opponent when it lands.
Joe Chaney, the Whitler flash, is down on the card for a set-to with Roy Iland of Huntington Beach and a pupil of Chick Brown. Chick says that his boy is a regular fighter and that Chaney will wish that he never had entered the

IT WAS "company night."
BUT WHEN I got home.
I FOUND the Browns.
HAD A sick baby.
AND COULDN'T come.
SO I chortled "Oh, joy.
WON'T SUE and I have.
SWELL EATS for two!"
BUT NO, Sue said.
"YOU DON'T suppose.
I'D WASTE all this food.
JUST ON you!"
AND SO I said.
"LET'S PHONE the Smiths."
BUT THEY had headaches.
THEN WE tried the Joneses.
AND THEY fell for it.
AND WHEN grub for four.
WAS JUST about ready.
JUST ON you!"
AND SO I said,
"LET'S PHONE the Smiths."
BUT THEY had headaches.
THEN WE tried the Joneses.
AND THEY fell for it.
AND WHEN grub for four.
WAS JUST about ready.
THE PHONE bell tinkled.
AND THE Brown baby was better.
AND A minute later.
THE SMITHS changed their mind.
AND THE Missus fainted.
"OH, WELL," I said.
"The MORE the merrier.
WHAT'S THE difference?
IF THERE isn't enough food.
I'll feed the males.

FALL RAINS ENABLE QUAIL TO SURVIVE
The two early rains of the fall have given the quail of the county a better chance to live thru the long bombardment that is due to start Nov. 1. That the quail has a better chance to survive now than he would have had had the fall been dry, was asserted today by County Game Warden W. E. Atkinson, of Trabuco.
"When it's dry," said Atkinson, "the birds are bound to be found close to what few water holes there are. The hunters who know the country easily spot the coves. Since it has rained, water can be had in a hundred places now where it was to be had in one before the first of the rains. That means that the birds are scattered. They will be harder to find."
MAY GET TROUT FRY FOR LOCAL STREAMS
The Santiago, Trabuco and San Juan streams in this county may get a few cans of trout fry this fall. County Game Warden W. E. Adkinson said today that the water in the three streams has been so low that up to the present he has not felt like pressing a request that he made to this fish and game commission for the fry.
Two carloads of fish fry that have arrived in Los Angeles from a state hatchery are being distributed today in the Whitewater creek in the desert country and in Cuyamaca lake, San Diego-co.
