It is estimated there are 500 bootleggers in the city peddling the product of illicit stills. Drunkenness has not decreased since Indiana went "dry" in 1917—and the state's prohibition laws are more stringent than the federal acts—if figures from periods in the years 1917 and 1921 may be accepted as an average. One thousand and ninety-four arrests for intoxication were made here from Jan. 1 to Sept. 29, this year, an average of 121 a month. During the ninety-day period preceding the closing of saloons, in 1917 the average was 108 a month. Few intoxicated persons are seen downtown, however. Most arrests are made in the foreign and negro quarters. FURTHER GAINS PREDICTED WASHINGTON, Oct. 25. — Based on the gain in individual membership and the number of lodges of the Knights of Pythias during the calendar year 1920, the next annual gathering of the order will show another gratifying increase, it is said. An interesting fact being pointed out by grand officers of the Knights of Pythias is that the financial development of the order is keeping pace with its numerical growth. DOUGHBOY AND DOUGHNUT IN ONE GRAND REUNION KANSAS CITY, Oct. 24. — There'll be a grand reunion of the doughboy and the doughhorses when the gang comes back Oct. 25. 2, for the third annual convention of the American Legion. The streets will look like the roads to and from the front lines during war days in France. The veterans will and, as they leg it down the streets, doughnut dugouts on all sides of them. These familiar looking sites will bear the name plates of the salvation army, and in the aperture will be a smiling face which will bring back memories of never to be forgotten days. The face will be that of a Salvation Army ladder, and in her hands she'll have crisp doughnuts to hand out to the famished, and coffee to shake the thirst. Anaheim Pharmacy will give to the first 200 customers making a purchase of $5c or more on Saturday, Oct. 29th, a $30c bottle of Ze Pyrol, for all germ diseases.
