SPORTING EVENTS FOUR DRAWS LAST NIGHT AT SPARKS' Four draws and a technical knockout were dished out on the regular weekly boxing program at Sparka' fistic ranch last night. Bud Soules and Jack Spar put up one of the best battles seen on a local card in the main event, and after four rounds of rapid-fire milling Referee Darnley called the fracas a draw. Any other decision would have been a hairline affair and a draw was the only way out. There are some who believe Soules had a slight shade, but if he did it would have had to be measured with a delicate instrument. There was action from the opening gong and concluded an all round good card. A return match between both boys would be looked on with favor. Albert (Kid) Leo's seconds tossed in the towel in the third round to save their man from a knockout at the hands of Sailor Hackley in the semi-windup. Leo made a game fight to win but was outclassed from the start. The sailor floored him for five or six times before the flag of truce started on its mission. Danny O'Brien got a draw for his work with Sailor Ashmore where a decision to the veteran would have shown better judgment, according to the consensus of opinion, Danny scoring a knockdown in the second round, a lead which the sailor never materially overcame. The blue jacket did a lot of leading in the last sessions but failed to connect often enough. O'Brien is still worth the money, and can go for a good many more bouts in the four-round game. Young Burton and Sailor Ashmore put up a whirlwind bout, the draw verdict being the only alternative of the referee. Buston ado- SPORT BRIEF'S ACCORDING to an announcement by Tex Rickard yesterday, he expects the Dempsey-Wilford match July 4, to draw an $800,000 house. The two drew $400,000 at Toledo, in face of many conditions detrimental to the bout. Riccard declares. He also added that Harry Wills, colored heavy, would not be a drawing card against Dempsey. An announcement made yesterday in Los Angeles, stated Jack Dempsey, heavyweight king, would appear there beginning Jan. 1, in the Pantages theatre in a sketch called Jack Dempsey's Road Show. Dempsey begins a 30-week tour from Chicago today. accompanied by his manager and a retinue of sparring partners. Santa Ana high school football lightweight lost to Whittier at the latter place yesterday by the score of 14 to 7. Santa Ana got her only tally in the first quarter when Cook rushed the ball over the line in an off-tackle drive. George Marks, Los Angeles bantam, easily won the decision over Kid George in the main event at the American Legion Hollywood stadium last night. Billy McCann and Young France will box the main event there next Friday. FULLERTON ROMPS AWAY FROM ORANGE Fullerton high school played college football yesterday afternoon at that city and romped away from Orange by the score of 54 to 0. During the first three quarters Fullerton had things entirely their SUNDAY LAST GAME FOR BASEBALL ELKS Anaheim people will have an opportunity to see the Elks' banner fly over a ball field for the last time this season when the state champions meet the crack Gen-Murphy's of Los Angeles, at Fullerton ball park Sunday. Hughes, the Elks' "old reliable," will start for the locals against the long driving haberdashers from the city. According to an announcement by Pete Hax today, the Elks' squad will be there in its entirety and ex-Mr. Hax added that there was pects to bring home the bacon, some talk of the team holding to but that it would be on their own gether and playing winter baseball "hock." The haberdashers have been playing big league baseball this year, according to reports from the city, and expect to take the local squa to a trimming. However, there are few here who believe they will conquer the "convention winners." HUNTINGTON BEACH DEFEATS SECONDS Huntington Beach's football squad visited the local field yesterday afternoon and returned home with the scalp of Anaheim's seconds. The score ended 21 to 7. Anaheim's only goal was made in the third quarter by a series of gains thru the line, the local left end taking the ball on a long end run crossing the line. The visitors had a slight advantage by making long gains thru Anaheim's line. FULLERTON ROMPS AWAY FROM ORANGE Fullerton high school played college football yesterday afternoon at that city and romped away from Orange by the score of 54 to 0. During the first three quarters Fullerton had things entirely their own way and went thru, around and over the Orange squad. However, the visitors started hitting Fullerton's line in the last quarter and went thru for several 10 and 12 yard gains. However, when in striking distance of the goal, Fullerton held them and punted out of danger. Callahan, formerly Los Angeles' all-city end provoked a barrel of mirth in the third quarter when in a dazed condition he got the ball and ran 60 yards in the wrong direction before discovering his mistake. He turned around and ran back forty yards before being down, putting over what is said to be the first 100 yard run ever made with but a 20 yard Joss. Callahan plays right end for Fullerton. Quarterback McDermont, of Fullerton, was given credit for the stellar role of the day. Judge K. M. Landis, supreme dictator of baseball, has won a decision over Bage Ruth and the latter has sent the judge his apologies for violating organized baseball law, according to word from the east today. The big Bambino has cancelled his barnstorming tour. The cancellation and the apology came after a conference between the home run king and Col. T. L. Houston, part owner of the New York Yankees. Ruth declares that he has been offered big money to play independent ball next year but will forego this and remain with the Yankees if the trouble can be smoothed over. The King of Klout's barnstorming trip was a failure, it was said, the $1000 a day guarantee being barely exceeded by the receipts. TENDLER DEFEATED BY ROCKY KANSAS Rocky Kansas, the Buffalo light-weight, won a clean enit decision over Lew Tendler in their 15 round go at Madison Square Garden last night. Tendler, who was called the light-runner-up, went into the ring at a 2 to 1 favorite over the Buffalo mauler, the latter according to the dopesters not having a chance with the Quaker lad. Kansas won all the way, flooring Tendler in the ninth round. Tendler was up in a hurry, however, and the end of the bout found them head to head battling. The winner of the match is said to be in line with another bout with Benny Leonard, title holder, the lat- Huntington Beach's football squad visited the local field yesterday afternoon and returned home with the scalp of Anaheim's seconds. The score ended 21 to 7. Anaheim's only goal was made in the third quarter by a series of gains thru the line, the local left end taking the ball on a long end run crossing the line. Frazer, secretary of the C. of C. of Anaheim, the speaker of the evening, at the celebration of the local chamber on Thursday evening at a dinner and discussion at the social hall. The dinner was a most satisfying affair given by the famous cooks of the Ladies' Aid. The program was opened by a piano solo by M. J. Pickering and a reading by Miss Robbins. The discussion waxed warm when F. W. Bishop started the ball rolling by asking why the taxpayers were not notified of the meeting of the chamber and their action of recinding the cutting down of the grade on Hiatt-st when the majority of the interested taxpayers had recommended this as the solution of the water problem. After milling around in a circle for a while, the motion to call a mass meeting Monday, of the interested taxpayers was decided on. A leather pusher baseball organization is being formed in Los Angeles under the direction of Charley Kline, boxing manager. The club is to be known as the Fistic Stars, 'tis said, but say, who will be the umpire. That question is now being debated, as it seems that most of the Angel city umps don't care to take a chance on having an argument to ensue. Among the prominent four-round boxers who will play are Lucky Lugo, Young George, Tommy McFarland, Frankie Monroe and Lee Moore. Mickey Farrell is assisting in rganizing the team. Most of those in the line-up have been playing ball the past season, spending the evening pushing some guy around the ring. Ralph Smith, the baby hippo boxer who can't find a ready made boxing shoe in America, k. o'd his opponent in the first session of the L. A. A. C. boxing show night before last. Several local boxers declared that had they been caught in the squared circle facing young Smith, they would have given him the benefit of all doubt and went to sleep unassisted by one of his iron dukes.
