BREA-CANYON 2-A LOOKS LIKE WELL Brea Field The Brea Canyon Oil Co.'s deep test well No. 43 drilled to 4181 failed to make production at that depth and was bridged back to 3300. The well is producing about 4 barrels. No. 2-A looks like the next big producer for the Brea Canyon. At 3600 No. 2-A is drilling in the oil sand. Rigging up work is advancing rapidly on the Dolks-Thomas Syndicate at Fulleton. Actual drilling is only a matter of days now. Located on property turned down by the big old line operator, C.S. Thomas, former Union Oil Geologist and locator of the famous Chapman No. 1, promises a real surprise. On the Orange lease the Columbia Oil Producing Co. completed No. 7 at 3910 and preparations are being made to bring the new well in Mendegno No. 1, the deep test-well drillta 4289, has not improved its production with pumping, the well is making about 4 barrels today. On the Pico property three wells are drilling. No. 2 at 3500, No. 3 at 1900 and No. 3 at 1900. Puenta I-A is at 865 in hard sand and going a little slow. The Fullerton Oil Company has two wells drilling in the Brea field. No. 4 at 2865 is in hard sand and going nicely. No. 6 at 3245 is drilling in hard sand and also making good progress. No. 18 is a recent completion, is doing about 275 barrels. HAVE MUCH TROUBLE AT GETTY NO. 1 WELL Puerta Hills The Bardeen Oil Co. is having all the troubles listed in the oil developers journal at Getty No. 1. Drilled to 2260 the well shows producing qualities but refuses to stay on regular production. Most of the past week was spent in cleaning out, swabbing and other efforts to make the discovery well a permanent producer. Barden is in the game to stay and will make an oil well out of it if the oil is there. BAD FISHING JOB ON Q.P.HUGO 3 Just as the General Petroleum was putting the finishing touches on Hugo No. 3 and getting ready to bring the well in, a complicated fishing job at 3500 feet is holding the well up seriously. Jones No. 1 a deep test well, was cemented at 4165, there being no oil showings at that depth. Walker No. 1, one of the Yorba Linda group, cemented at 3855, and drilling on to 3957 got a good showing of oil and gas. UNION DRILLS 8 WELLS ON CHAPMAN Union Oil development work at Richfield continues to carry the center of interest. Drilling on the Chapman lease now includes 8 wells. No. 5 down 4196 feet in the oil sand is redrilling at 3800. No. 11 in the oil sand at 3100 is about ready to complete. No. 12 is field with a fishing job at 2200. No. 13 is rigging up. No. 14 at 3625 is drilling in hard shell. No. 18 shows 3500 in hard shale and No. 19 at 3625 is in brown shale. No. 20, the last well started, is now better than 4000 feet and in shale and shell. T.E.G.No. 3 is held up fishing, at 2340. No. 4 is cleaning out at 2570. On the Thompson-Goodwin lease the Union has located two new wells Nos. 5 and -6.J.W.Newell is making hole at 2475, and Meradden 3 at 3100 is held up with a fishing job.Dickson No.1 down 3865 is doing some drilling at 3360.On the Coyle lease No.2 is to be cemented at 3062.Coyle No.3 is at 3165 and No.4 at 3275 is in the oil sand. Stern No.2 at 3400 is in the oil sand and looks very good.No.3 and are new wells located. On the Ayers-Parsons lease No.1 was completed at 3421 and went on the pump a 2000 barrel well.No.2 on the same property is down 3369 and ready to bring in.Cleaning out to 3250 the well commenced flowing and heaving up in the pipe. Most of the past week was spent in cleaning out, swabbing and other efforts to make the discovery well-a permanent producer. Barden is in the game to stay and will make an oil well out of it if the oil is there. The Chino Corona United is about ready to begin deepening its No. 1 from 3678 on. At the above depth, the well showed some oil, but it is believed the good production is 200 feet deeper. Operators and geologists who know oil now agree that the Mahalia has the best showing of any wild cat now drilling in Southern California. At 3950 the drill is cutting in sandy brows shale, and the big oil sand from which the heavy gas pressure has been gotten up 200 feet is expected to be shipped most any minute now. Preparations are being made for big well, and the preparations seemed to be fully warranted. Drilling at close to 3280 feet the Pomona Oil Co.'s No. 1 is 7 handy shale and is not showing any very strong indications of oil as yet. The St. Helena Petroleum has seemingly gotten away from its early difficulties at Garnier No. 1 and the drilling is now going ahead nicely. Garnier No. 1 is now at a 1100 and in shale. MAXWELL SPIRITUAL CHURCH At the Maxwell Spiritual church, 425 North Olive, Rev. C. Peira will give messages through held and violin, Oct. 20, at 9:30 p.m. All are welcome... POISONED CANDY SICKENS NURSES CHICAGO, Oct. 91. — Intensified effort was being made by the authorities today to track down and arrest the person who sent thru the mall a box of poisoned candy which may result in the death of seven hospital nurses who ate it. The candy was addressed to Helal Rosefield and was home-made. The address was written on a typewriter and a card inside the box read: "I am a patient who was an ardent addicter, this candy was faithfully made." WATCHFUL WAITING NEW-YORK, Oct. 18—John Buchalsky, iceman, is a good manager. When he and Helen Horton quarreled and she broke the engagement, he didn't make any gesture of committing suicide. He just waited. Then when she was ready to marry another man, and had her engagement ring (trousseau, marriage license), and when all arrangements were made, John went to the new flance. "Till give you $600 to step out of this affair and let me be the bride-groom instead," said John. "That will clean oil. The gas that able at the time the gas testing out dry. La Merced No. 1 (Callkins) will be deepened from 2745 to the lower sands encountered by the St. Helen's Petroleum in the big Eggleston well. And effort is to be made to put No. 2 (Manly) on immediate production. Manly No. 1 is 2685 deep and is to be plugged back and re-cemented, drilled out and put on production. The Arcadia Oil Co. is having considerable difficulty in getting a water shut off at 2975. Several attempts have been made to get a shut off. The difficulty seems to be in getting the cement to set. The Keeler Oil Co. is having some difficulty in making a water shut-off at 3854 in No. 2. A recent cementing with 4-inch at 3854 failed to get results and now it is the intention to plug back and recement. On the McFinley lease one well No. 14 in drilling. Down 2000 feet, good time is being made. No. 15 is rigging up. The McGinley Oil Co. increased its production last month with three new wells aggregating 1200 barrels. Prugh No. 9 is a deep well now drilling in brown shale at 3500. The St. Helen's big well Eggleston No. 1 the greatest gusher in the field since the balmy days of the Standard's Baldwin wells continues to produce 2100 barrels daily of which 1800 barrels is clean oil. The gas that looked so valuable at the time the well came in is now testing out dry. At the time Eggleston No. 1 broke into production the gas was testing out K of a gallon of gasoline per thousand feet. Tests show that the gas is not carrying enough汽油来 warrant the erection of a plant to extract it. The big well is producing 19,500,000 cubic feet daily and is a record gasser for Southern California. The Standard Oil Co. closed a deal for the lease of the properties of the Howard and Smith Co. Four years ago when the Montebello field opened the Petroleum midway drilled some wells on the Howard and Smith but did not get down into them. STUDIES BOY PROBLEM HERE The Anaheimi Y. M. C. A. held a community dinner last night at the high school cafeteria. The dinner was served by the ladies of the Ebell club. During the dinner, there were plano selections by William Blake, of Los Angeles, and J. L. Blake, new local "Y" secretary, and a violin solo by Rollin Collis. M. E., Beebe was chafman and, though he said he had not prepared any funny stories, he made up one. The chief talk was made by Geo.Chessman of Orange, secretary of the "Y" for the county, who said the objective of the "Y" is to win young boys to Jesus Christ. He told of the plans that the government is considering for the use of the cantonments for "corrals" for delinquent boys. The delinquent boy and girl is growing a bigger problem each year! said Chessum, "and the only thing that can save the day is a knowledge of the Man of Gallilee. What we need is not just better men and women, but better Christian men and women. The trouble is, we don't believe what we preach; anyway we don't believe it strong enough. We must live the life the Nazarine laid down for us to follow, and we must place before the boys a higher challenge for Christian living. We talk too much about those who died bravely, and thank God for those who are willing to give their lives, but the challenge for us is not to die, but to live. And let us LIVE what we preach. Heed the Master, and there'll be no need to worry." How many men, I wonder, have ever really sat down by themselves and taken an inventory of their live? Try it. We have got to change our course if we ever reach the boy who is growing up, and bring him to Christ. The "Y" is not separate from the church.Instead, it is a church-builder." clean oil. Robert Bean, master of the motor power vessel Wayfarer, seized off the coast of San Diego several days ago, after federal authorities found the captain had placed on board 17 large barrels of whiskey, is not to escape prosecution on the ground that seizure of his boat, his crew, himself and the liquor was made when all were outside the throo-mile zone. A ruling made by former Attorney General Palmer that any vessel flying the American flag and of American registry, no matter in what part of the world it was, was liable to seizure, and its master to prosecution, if found to be violating the Voluntead act, will be invoked. L. who said that made cleaner. He declared that by the help of God he was determined to be no quitter, but to give the best possible service to the club. J. A. Clayes, principal of the local high school, made a short talk, saying that the local school is the cleanest in Orange-co., and that while no doubt there is some swearing on the school ground, he has done the best possible for the keeping of the school ground clean, and God has been with him. A board of regents, or a town committee to assist in the work, was suggested by Mr. Beebe, and on a motion by A. A. Mills, it was voted that a committee of 15 be appointed in this work. They will be selected by the present town committee. There were talks by Mr. Mills, Frank N. Gibbs, William Sebastian, Rev. Thomas Walker of the Presbyterian church, and Rev. Gelssinger, of the White Temple. Rev. Gelssinger gave Mr. Chessum some friendly criticism for "bearing down" too much on the religious and not enough on the recreational side of the "Y." He said that he did not see that emphasizing Bible study among the boys would help the church any, since this was gotten at the church, nor yet "cleaning smut out of the high school," since this was attended by the school, but that a "Y" Club devoted to recreational affairs would be a big advantage to all.
