2 S. O. KITSELMAN WELLS ABANDONED (Hawthorne-Redondo) In spite of the fact that the Standard Oil Co. has abandoned two wells on properties adjoining the Kitselman holdings, Kitselman is trying to make a producer out of the Hicks well at 3800 feet. The well was drilled to 4002 and was bridged back to 3800. A production test will be made at the upper mark. The Standard recently abandoned Bohon No. 1 at 5155 and the Landowners on adjoining property at 2800. The Eddystone Oil Corp. will not do any more developing at Rosecrans, which means that this company will leave the Hawthorne Inglewood field. Rosecrans No. 1 was drilled to 2825 feet and battled with salt water for months. The well showed no oil. Conditions for an oil well on the Union Oil Co.'s Bonimers property near Gardena do not improve as the hole deepens. At 4100 feet the drilling is in sandy shale and boulders but no encouraging oil indications have as yet been reported. Oil the Francis property No. 1 is better than 1300 feet. The Petroleum Dove Co.'s Redondo test well goes on production. Or what is better the well is going to be put to a production test. Drilled to 3035 feet the well showed some 20 feet of oil sand and about 100 feet of brown shale carrying some oil. In order to test out these formations and get a line on the probable production the well is being put on production at the above depth. The management does not expect a gusher by any means. Should the well not prove a commercial producer, the six-inch pipe will be put in and drilling resumed. SYNDICATE 1 NOW BIXBY DEEP WELL (Bixby Hills) The Bixby Hills Syndicate No. 1 is now the Bixby Hills district deep well. Drilling 4000 ACRES LEASED NEAR REDONDO WELL Redondo Since the Chansler-Canfield-Midway's discovery well at Redondo went on production, approximatel 4000 acres of new territory has been leased. Prior to the coming in of the discovery well about 4500 acres were held under lease. The Standard, Union General Petroleum, Petroleum Midway, St. Helen's Petroleum, Fulerton, and Amalgamated and Shell Company all have extensive holdings running from 40 acres up to a 1000 acres. Landowners are asking a bonus of from $500 to $1000 an acre, a monthly rental of $25 an acre, and a sixth royalty. On account of the extensive holdings of big companies there will be little chance for small stock promotion companies to get in on it. The new field will be restricted largely to legitimate development. HUNTINGTON E-2 IS 100-BARREL WELL Huntington Beach At Huntington E-2 the Standard brot in a 100 barrel well. The new well was completed at 2396. E-3 formerly the Bolas Chica Oil No. 1 is 2396 and the 8 inch is to be freed and carried on. On the Huntington A property the Standard has four wells drilling, four standing cemented and two testing water. At Huntington B, No. 2 has been cemented at 4010. No. 4 is drilling at 1900 and No. 5 is a location. No. 6 spudded in and shows 600 feet of hole. No. 7 is a rig. On the D lease No. 1 stands cemented at 2644, and No. 2 is a location. On the Bolas Chica No. 3 is up for a water test and No. 4 is drilling at 2,000. Jones Community No. 1 is now on regular production at 550 barrels, and No. 2 is drilling at 1950. Surf No. 2 stands re-cemented at 1937. Thompson No. 1 stands with pipe set at 2905. The Talbert Oil Co.'s No. 1 may blow in and over the top any minute now. Drilling at 2325, the well is showing up very strong. An attempt is being made to drill thru about 40 feet of oil sand before bringing the well. The Texas Holding Co. spudded in and started drilling on No. 2 yesterday. Wiggle-McBride Drilling Co. is doing the work. Standard Oil SYNDICATE 1 NOW BIXBY DEEP WELL (Bixby Hills) The Bixby Hills Syndicate No. 1 is now the Bixby Hills district deep test well. Drilling now at 4650 the formation is showing a red brown shale that seems to have held oil at one time, but shows none now. The National Security Oil Co.'s showing of gas that occurred at 2800 feet still continues at 2945 and is considerably stronger. The formation is brown shale and the backers of the well the Beauty Oil and Development Co. promise a real surprise. The National Exploration Co.'s Olinda he is now making hole at 3465 in sandy shale and looks very good. The Chino No. 1 well stands cemented at 1157. Word received from New York has it that the New York California Oil Co. is to resume active operations at once. Some months ago this company stopped drilling at 500 feet. The Tepothal Oil Co. is another that has stood idle for some time and is now resuming active operations. About $100,000 of new capital has been interested in this company, and the amount practically guarantees the completion of the wildcat well. About 2000 feet of hole has been drilled. H. T. & K. SYNDICATE CLOSE TO 3100 FEET Drilling on the H. T. & K. Syndicate is now close to 3100 feet. The formation is brown shale and is not carrying any very strong oil indications as yet. Drilling on the La Guinea Oil Ass'n's No. 1 is now at 3100 ft. Hard sand has characterized the digging for a couple hundred feet. Drilling on the Northland is going steadily ahead. At 1200 the log shows brown shale. In a few days the Nu Santa Oil Co will know the results of the cementing job at 2125. Securing a shut off the first time will be a real achievement for both the company and the field. The Wirscher and Gray Oil Co's No. 1 is now at 2700. That good brown shale struck at 2300 still continues. W. A. G. No. 1 shows 1900 feet of hole in the hard sand. Pending the outcome of the recent labor disturbance no work has been done on any of the Interstate's holdings at Newport for the past three weeks. Drilling on the Long Beach Consl's at 2,000. Drilling at 2325 the well is showing up very strong. An attempt is being made to drill thru about 40 feet more of oil sand before bringing the well. The Texas Holding Co. spudded in and started drilling on No. 2 yesterday. Wiggle-McBride Drilling Co. is doing the work. Unless the unforeseen arises Vista Del Mar No. 2 will be on production the latter part of the week. Drilled to 2520 the well is being held up a few days waiting on the arrival of a string of 4 inch casing. Baller samples taken fro mthe well show a good gravity and clean oil. The Union Oil Co. started another well on the Copeland lease today. Copeland No. 6 is the new well and is building rig. Copeland No. 2 shows 2385 feet of hole and drilling in shale. No. 2 is fighting the sand at 3378. Newland No. 2 is at 2300 in brown-shale and shell. Copeland No. 1 the Union's only producer continues to produce consistently at 190 barrels. Drilling on the Long Beach Consl's No. 1 is no wat 3145. Some good showings of gas have been encountered from 2975 on and occasionally the "ditch" shows oil colors. BIXBY HILLS WELL DRY AT 4735 FEET Bixby Hills Drilling at 4735 feet the Bixby Hills Syndicate up to date has found no oil in this deep test well. The well is expected to be abandoned soon unless it does take a more hopeful turn. Drilling at 3575 the National Exploration Co. No. 1 is in sandy shale and shows some encouragement. The National Security Co. in the County Park region, shows 3020 feet and looking good in a hard sandy shale. This wild cat is showing quite a lot of gas. RIVERSIDE SHOWING OF GAS LESSENED Riverside The showing of oil and gas that caused the big stig last week at 1975 is not so pronounced at the present depth of 2065. Drilling is now going ahead in a formation alternating between brown shale and sand. Pasadena-Puenta Shows Oil Drilling at 1395 the Pasadena-Puenta well continues to show considerable oil. This well has held interest on account of its early oil showings. At 450 feet the first showing was reported. Pomona Oil Co. at 3075 Drilling on the Pomona Oil Co.'s wild cat is now at 3075. The formation is sandy brown shale, with a little gas occasionally. St. Helens Gets Underway After a lot of difficulty with crooked hole and other trouble the St. Helens has gotten underway and further No. 1 is now drilling in shale shoulders at 258-266. IN GARDEN GROVE Garden Grove Fishing and sidetracking has brought success to the Standard in the Garden Grove well. Drilling is now going nicely at 3255. Other Activity The Calif.-Oregon Develop. Co. has done nothing further than build a rig and attempt to sell stock. The Lessors Oil Company has erected a rig and equipped it for drilling but has not started actual drilling as yet. The deep Westminster well down 4420 feet is waiting on a string of left hand pipe to go in and recover all but 9 stands of rotary pipe lost in the hole two weeks ago. In all probability this well will be abandoned soon. It never showed any oil and conditions hardly warrant anew deeper drilling. The Plain Dealer for Good Printing Try Plain Dealer Want Us. THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA COMANCHE OBTAINS LA MERCED LEASES Montebello Field One of the most important changes of the year in the Montebello field was the transfer of the La Merced Oil Co.'s holdings to the Comanche Oil and Gas Co. The transfer was made late last week. The Comanche has the means and the equipment coupled with the experienced management to develop the La Merced property to a high productivity. Well No. 1 Calkins will be deepened at once and carried down to the deep sand found by the St. Helens at Eggleston No. 2. Manly will be put on the pump. Should this well fail to make commercial production it will also be deepened. The La Merced Oil Co. will soon be put in the dividend list with the Comanche developing its holdings. Eggleston No. 1, the most phenomenal well in the history of the Montebello development, starts its third week producing at better than 1800 barrels. The big well is making more than twenty million cubic feet of gas. The gas is the richest of the Montebello field ever produced. Recent refinery tests show that the gasoline content is running 314 of a gallon to a thousand feet. The Howard and Smith holdings at one time held by the Petroleum Midway have been increased in value measurably by the St. Helen's big well and will be in demand for lease now. The supposed name of the "missing victim" who is being sought by the state is Ben Cheeseman, a traveling man, supposedly of Portland, Oregon. DEEPEN WHITLEY 5, INCREASE 250 BBLS. Whittier and Santa Fe Springs Whitley No. 5 formerly producing at 2265 and making less than a hundred barrels was deepened to 2565 and the production increased to 250 barrels. A cave-in at 2545 has held up the So. Calif., Oil Co. to the extent that no new hole was made last week. At the present depth the well is showing up rather good and the management is anxious to proceed. Drilling on the La Habra Midway's No. 1 went exceptionally good last week, 129 holes were made, which brings the depth down to 1635. On the Bastanchury at No. 1 the Standard drilled to 4390 and set pipe at 4296. Bestanchury No. 5 put on production at 4738 feet, is making around 50 barrels. The Amalgamated Oil Co. stopped drilling on the Butterworth and set a string of pipe at 4670. At the time the pipe was set the formation showed some oil colors and gas. The Scientific Oil Co. drilling at 1355 is in a very hard conglomerate and is making slow progress on account of the hard digging. The Nevada-Ventura, Oil Co., a new concern in the Santa Fe Springs district has completed the erection of a rig on property adjoining the Union Oil Co.'s Meyer holdings. The Nevada-Ventura Co. is backed by Ventura and Long Beach capital. The company has chosen a deep field for its southern district operations. The Union Oil Co.'s Meyer No. 5 is now at 4635 and drilling in a very hard sand. The oil indications are AMAL. WELL SETTLES DOWN TO 400 BBLS. Huntington Beach The Amalgamated Oil Co.'s big well on the Pearce property has settled down to a 400 barrel well. Drilled to 3880, the Pearce is the deepest producer in Montebello Field The greatest producer since Walter Black brought in the 2, 3 and 4 thousand barrel wells on the Baldwin Hills is the Saint Helens Petroleum Eggleston No. 1. Early last week this well was producing 2000 barrels. Owing to the tremendous amount of gas the well is producing the State Mining Bureau asked that for conservation the flow nipple be reduced and the gas taken care of. Reduction of the flow nipple from 2% to 1% cut the production down to 1200 barrels. The gas produced is a new factor in the Montebello field. Heretofore all the gas produced contained no gasoline. The gas from the Eggleston well is running % of a gallon of gasoline to a 1000 cubic feet of gas. With the present gas output of the well at 20 and a half millions the gasoline that could be produced would amount to about ten thousand gallons daily. Eggleston No. 1 was drilled to 4272 feet and is the field's deepest and biggest producer. On the Baldwin Hills lease the Standard Oil Co. completed No. 53 at 2722 and the new well went on production doing a 125 barrels. Temple No. 14 is proving a big well. At 2540 this well is making a little better than 800 barrels. The Standard has made a location for Baldwin No. 59 and will begin work on the well at once. Walter McGinley is starting two new wells at Montebello. The new wells are No. 14 and 15. Just recently the McGinley Co.'s brought in No. 11 a 550 barrel well, No. 12 a 400 barrel well and No. 13 a 260 barrel well. The St. Helens Petroleum Co.'s Eggleston makes the Baldwin Stockier Oil Estate property look good, and it seems that the opportunity is not going to be lost. The Baldwin-Stockier Estate is going ahead with two wells No. 4 and No. 5. At Prugh No. 9 the Petroleum Midway is drilling in hard sand at 3400 feet. It is the intention to put this one down and get some of the Montebello field's deep production. Baldwin No. 11 at 3000 feet is rigging up to proceed with cable tools. The Union Oil Co's Meyer No. 5 is now at 4635 and drilling in a very hard sand. The oil indications are nothing to cause any excitement as yet. Meyer No. 4 shows 4225 feet and also in hard sand. The St. Helens Petroleum Co. drilling on the Germier lease is making hole at 300 feet in the hardest of shell ever struck in any locality. Many days only a foot or two of hole is made. The Gold Seal Petroleum's No. 1 will soon stand for a deep test well. Drilling now at 4040 feet this well is not showing anything very strong and begins to look like a duster.
