FULLERTON BURIES
SAN BERDOO 89-0
Fullerton high school gave San Bernardino high grid athletes the most dreadful walloping of their young lives at the Fullerton field Saturday afternoon, the murder ending $2 to 0 in favor of Fullerton. A San Bernardino girl in taking a drink from the fountain at the athlete grounds said the water tasted like Fullerton, it must have tasted dreadful.
The Fullerton team started right off scoring in the first quarter, making touchdown after touchdown until all the end of the first quarter the score stood 35 to 0 in favor of Fullerton. The Fullertonites kept up their adding machine tactics in the second quarter steadily continuing the attack, and breaking the lines of their opponents racing to almost unharmed victory. The score at the end of the first half stood 72 to 0 in favor of Fullerton.
In the second half San Bernardino kicked off, Fullerton got the ball and made gains. San Bernardino regained the ball, but after a scrimmage lost it again to Fullerton. Fullerton made a series of gains, but failed to score in the third quarter, San Bernardino recuperating and holding their own.
In the first of the fourth quarter Fullerton made a touchdown, but failed to kick the goal.
San Bernardino kicked off, Fullerton got the ball and kicked. Fullerton got the ball and made a series of gains and soon broke thru to a touchdown but failed to kick the goal. Fullerton kicked off. San Bernardino made two dashes and goodly gains, it looking az though they might make a touchdown after all. Then Fullerton got the ball, and steadily drove them back, making a touchdown. They failed to kick the goal. At the end of the fourth quarter the score stood 53 to 0 in favor of Fullerton.
The game was very one-sided, but Fullerton expects a harder task next Saturday when they tackle Bakersfield.
A double-headed was contemplated, but the San Bernardino lightweight did not come. In lieu of the Fullerton lightweights played the Fullerton second team before the game of the first teams, the second team winning by a score of 18 to 7.
The fullerton line-up was as follows:
SANTA ANA DEFEATS
SAN DIEGO 14 TO 0
Santa Ana's high school football aggregation started off the season Saturday by romping away from San Diego on the long end of a 14 to 0 score.
It was a case of speed against beef, us it were, and the beef won. According to reports, Santa Ana's goal was in danger only once when the southern boys had the ball down on the five-yard line. However, Santa Ana held them southerners for downs and the day was saved.
It looks like Anaheim will have a tough battle next Saturday when the local boys tackle our county-seat neighbors.
However, A.H.S. has a team that they have a lot of confidence in and the team has confidence in themselves. They expect to carry away the honors.
Should the local squad win their stock will increase three fold. Santa Ana being considered one of the strongest teams in the conference this year. In fact, there are many who believe Fullerton will meet her waterloo in the Santa Ana bunch this year.
DUDLEY WILL MEET SOULES FRI. NIGHT
Young Dudley, Anaheim's crack colored lightweight and Bud Soules, of Los Angeles, have been signed up by Matchmaker Billy Darnley of It Anaheim Athletics Club for the club's weekly Friday night show. This will be their third meeting, Dudley having won the first one via the K.O route in the third round and a couple of weeks later. Soules came thrue with a draw after one of the most exciting goes pulled off bereaboutus. Both boys have been clamoring for a return match ever since and that wish has been gratified. Dudley, it appears, has been sliding along like a house affire. He has won his last start up at Vernon and out at the Hollywood club.
He and this coloured lad should put up one of those whirlwind scraps that sets 'em all wild as both lads are determined that there will be no trouble.
Sport Chatter
Billy Conley, middleweight boxer, who has been in Anaheim for several weeks, and his manager, Roy Tuttle, left last night for San Diego in quest of matches. Conley wants to meet Sailor Larry, who knocked Young George, the Vernon favorite, for a row of goals at San Diego two weeks ago. According to Bill Darnley, the world witnessed three miracles last Friday. They were, Giants' victory of the Yankees; Anaheim Elks' winning a state championship, and Jimmy Lloyd cleaning "Delhi" Fredericks in their boxing match.
Frankie Garcia, Los Angeles bantam, gets another shot at Pal Moore in Memphis tonight. Garcia lost the referee's decision last Monday, but newspaper men at the ringside gave García the best of the fray. A win over Moore, who holds decision over three bantam champs, will send the California boy to New York after Johnny Buff's crown.
A number of local ball fans journeyed to Los Angeles Saturday to attend the opening of the Winter League season, and saw Rogers Hornsby, the St. Louis Cardinal slugger, live up to his reputation. The game was as well attended as any of the Saturday games during the regular season. The old southland is surely becoming an all year sporting center.
