Tuesday, October 4, 1921 SURPRISE SHOWER FOR BRIDGE ELECT GARDEN GROVE, Oct. 4 — A popular bride-to-be, Miss Georgenia German, who will shortly become the wife of Gerald Ogborn, was honored with a delightful surprise miscellaneous shower at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. M. German, last Tuesday night by the members of the B. Y. P. U, and a few invited guests. About 47 guests were present. Following an interesting program of readings by Inez Russell, Norman Larson and the bride-elect, musical numbers by Mr. and Mrs. Irvine German, Miss German was presented with many beautiful and useful gifts, after which refreshments were served. Mrs. J. A. Knapp entertained the members of her Sunday school class Thursday evening at a 6 o'clock lunch, soon those present including: Inez Russell, Norma Larson, Ethlyn Lee, Marion Marsh, Grace Smith, Holly Clark and Irene Fuller. The evening was spent in selecting stories from magazines to be sent to hospitals. Prof. and Mrs. A. D. Hoenshel, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Pringle and daughter. Eunice, Miss Frances Barber and Miss Grace Dryden enjoyed a picnic supper at the Orange-co park Wednesday evening. Mrs. Mary Winter and mother, Mrs. Newman and Mrs. P. M. Walts are spending a couple of weeks at Elsinore Holl Springs. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Bean enjoyed a visit from their son-in-law, J. B. Ridgeway of Oakland, last week. The Aud Lang sync club was entertained at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hill at Long Beach Thursday. A. A. Schmitger, Homer Bodenhammer, Frank Rigersk and Henry Blascholder enjoyed a hunting trip near Lebes, Kern-co, last week. Mr. and Mrs. M. Carmichael will leave Saturday for the northern part of the state for a hill with relatives. Hedry McCracken and family, of Yorbu Linda, were visitors at the W. A. Bean home the first of this week. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Tubbs, returned Thursday from a visit with relatives at San Pedro and Los Angeles. Mrs. M. P. Chamberlain, of Los Angeles is visiting with friends here a few days this week. Miss Herien Goeshel was home from Occidental college for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Zieck and Long Beach were guests at the A. T. Dungan home Wednesday. Mrs. George Tournot departed last week for San Antonio, Texas, where she was called by the serious illness of her father. William Dankers, W. A. Wheeler, Miss Clara Ohnstad and Miss 10th "Danger rAhead," a Carlo Laemme picture featuring the famous beauty, Mary Philbin, will be seen tonight at the Fairyland. Added attractions will be a comedy, "A Model Made," topics of the day, and Paramount Magazine. "His Brother's Keeper" will be the feature of the program at the Grand tonight. Added attractions would be a comedy and International news. LOCAL SCOUTS PLAN FOR COUNTY RODEO Frank Sackett, Editor The Scouts of Troop One, Anaheim, held their weekly Monday night at 7 o'clock, opening with a drill and color ceremony. Scoutmaster McKim was well pleased with the way the scouts acted during the ceremony. The Boy Scouts of Orange-co are going to hold a big Scout Rodeo at Santa Ana Oct. 7, and everyone is invited, especially the parents of the boys. The rodeo will boast a carnival, two bands and more than 450 scouts. Come see what "scouting" means to "Young America." The rodeo will start about 7 p.m. SANTA ANA WILL BE 52 YEARS OLD OCT. 10 Next Monday will be Santa Ana's 52nd birthday. On Oct. 10, 1869 William H. Spurgeon founded Santa Ana. He bought 70 acres from one of the Yorba heirs, and with a Los Angeles surveyor laid out the townsite. Spurgeon attempting to look over his purchase could not see it for mustard. He climbed a sycamore tree so that he could get a look at the property. The opening meeting for the fall of the Women's Assm. in Olinda will be held this coming Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5th at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. William J. Travers, on the Olinda lease. The theme of the program will be Americanaization, and will include a duet by Miss Drusilla Mackey; worker among the Spanish speaking people at the citrus packing plant in La Habra. Mrs. Wm. Dales and family of Huntington Beach visited in Olinda Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Todd Velts went to Los Angeles Friday and brought Mrs. Orville Thomas home. Mrs. Thomas underwent an operation for appendicitis two weeks ago. She is improving very satisfactory now and it is hoped she will soon be able to be out again. Rev. and Mrs. Wilferd Kret and Mrs. D.
