DEER POOR FOOD, WARDEN DECLARES "The man who kills a buck now gets mighty poor venison," declared W. E. Adkinson of Trabuco canyon, county game warden today. Adkinson said that the mating season among deer has started, and the opening of mating season always means that it is time to quit hunting deer. "I passed up a legal deer two days ago," said Adkinson. "He was within easy range. I could have killed him, I know. But I didn't shoot. The venison would have been too strong; it wouldn't have been fit to eat." Adkinson said that most of the old-time hunters have stopped hunting for the season, though the season does not close until the evening of Oct. 15. "The benefit of having a large game preserve in which deer can be safe is known this season," continued the game warden. "There have been a dozen or so bucks killed this year where two or three years only one or two would have been found. Those that were killed were bucks that come down out of protected territory." Adkinson predicts the ending of all quail shooting in Orange-co within a year or two, unless a closed season for a period of years is soon established. "Year by year," said he, "the quail have been reduced in numbers. This year was not a good quail-breeding season. Then, too, a large part of the territory in which quail remained was so closely cropped by cattle last spring that there was little protection for the birds. This season hunters will endeavor to find out where quail are to be found. The word will be passed from hunter to hunter, and what's left of any flock of quail after they have been concentrated upon won't be much. I am thinking that this season will just about clean up quail in Orange-co." Dove season is to continue thru the month of October, closing on the last day of this month. Quail season opens November 1. "Quail season will be open for two and a half months," said Adkinson. "That is entirely too long in a territory where quail are depicted as they are here. Nothing but a closed season over a period of years can bring them back to anything like worthwhile numbers." AD RUBIDOUX WILL APPEAR AT SPARKES' According to an announcement yesterday by Bill Darley, one of the biggest drawing ponds in the south in flastic circles has been obtained for the weekly boxing show at Sparker ranch Friday night. Ad Rubidoux, the Riverside bantam who has been packing the old Vernon shanty, will tieup with one Sailor Ro Tollo, of the U. S. S. Texas, and bantamweight champion of the Pacific fleet in the main event. Rubidoux has won some of the most sensational bouts seen at Vernon in the past few months and is worth going a long way to see. Ro Tollo is said to be a tough boy who will make Ad extend himself to defeat. The balance of the car will stand as scheduled for last week with the exception of Bennie Heller's bout. Sam Kelly being selected to oppose him. The balance of the card is: Chick Brown vs. Kid Lamb, Jimmy Lloyd vs. Delhi Fredericks, Kid Louie vs. Young Sam Langford, and a red hot curtain raiser will be announced at the ringside. ANAHEIM SMOTHERS NORWALK ELEVEN The Norwalk team went home last evening badly beaten, so much that the score keeper refused to keep tally after Anaheim hit the 60 mark. Most of the goals were made in the first half. This is the most one-sided game that has ever been played on the local field. This is the first year that Norwalk has played the game and the material is raw. There were a lot of bobbles. At the end of the game the score stood somewhere in the 60's to 14. Santa Ana high offered the competition this afternoon, on the local field. Much interest centers in the game here tomorrow afternoon with Riverside. The battle starts at 3 p.m. Admission will be 25c. ANAHEIM MEN LEASE VENTURA DUCK FARM Sam Coughran and Atty. Robert Dutton will spend the week-end duck hunting near Ventura where they have limited access for a few weeks. CALLAN, SALVESON ALREADY IN NORTH Manager Pete Hax of the So. Cal. champion Elks received a wire today from Captain Bus Callan and Pitcher Herb Salveson, who left by auto for the north after Sunday's game. They are stopping at Turlock for a few days before proceeding to Santa Cruz for the state championship battle Friday afternoon with San Francisco, titleholders of the north. Captain Buster says they're feeling fit and the weather is fine. Glenn Callan, Anaheim's third-base-man has been laid up for a couple of days with the grip. He was confined yesterday. Today he was feeling better and will climb on the "99" special train that leaves Los Angeles at 8 tonight with the rest of the Anheim squad and supporters. STADIUM CAMPAIGN OPENS WITH BANG BERKELEY, Oct. 5.—With thousands of dollars in payment of "Big Game" tickets pouring into California Memorial Stadium headquarters at Berkeley, and with reports from local chairmen in all sections of the state that large payments are being received hourly, the "Big Game" seat sale to provide funds for the immediate construction of a Memorial Stadium at Berkeley, has opened with a bang. According to Dean Frank H. Probert, of the Stadium Executive Committee, it seems assured that the various communities of the state will speedily exhaust their limited allocations of Big Game tickets, so that the great number who fail to act at once will be disappointed. The "Big Game" seats, in a limited allotment of 10,000 units of two seats each, are now on sale to 26,000 alumni and to the general public throughout California. The sale is to be halted as soon as the 10,000 units have been disposed of. Dean Probert has announced that this is the last, as well as the first, general sale of California-Stanford football game seats for a ten-year period: A cash payment of $100 secures $100 in scrip, good for two $5 choice seats at the California-Stanford game at Palo Alto this year, and two choice seats at each "Big Game," whether at Berkley or at Palo Alto, for the next following nine years. Sport Chatter ANAHEIM MEN LEASE VENTURA DUCK FARM Sam Coughran and Atty. Robert Dutton will spend the week-end duck hunting near Ventura where they have leased a ranch for the entire season. "It seems that's the only way to get any ducks any more," said Dutton. "It is a swampy stretch, with plenty of toles and a duck pond, and should afford some good shooting." 2 LOCAL MEN EACH BRING DOWN BUCK Norton Hatfield and J. Knox are enjoying some nice venison. They have just returned from Hemet where each brot down a buck. They report deer traps thick as sheep. FULLERTON PLAYER SUFFERS BAD INJURY Fullerton Football men received a shock yesterday afternoon at Riverdale when Malcolm Parker, 28, failed to get on his feet after a scrimmage. Investigation desclosed a leg was fractured. He was removed to the Fullerton hospital. He is a student at Fullerton J. C. and resides with his parents. MOVIE TRUCKER DOES LIFE-SAVING LEAP By jumping as the truck he was driving plunged off the road, a truckman for the Real Art Co., of the Laskey studios saved his life below Arch Beach. The trucks filled with palms and other small trees were being hauled to location when one of the trucks skidded on the wet road and went off the cliff. The second truck was stuck in the mud. Buena Park News BUENA PARK, Oct. 5.—(SpL) Mr. Clyde Leonard of Pasch, Wash is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Leonard. Mr. Leonard has just recently returned from France, where he was wounded during the war. Miss Nila Paulknner spent the week end with relatives at Riverdale. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hall of Los Angeles and Mr. and Mrs. C. Townsend or Anahiem were Sunday visitors of Dr. and Mrs. D. W. Hasson. Dr. and Mrs. Hasson and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Calloway attended the fair on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Wilson mother to Huntington Beach on Saturday. Mr. C. Ledford and children are visiting for a few days with Mr. Wood- have been disposed of. Dean Probert has announced that this is the last, as well as the first, general sale of California-Stanford football game seats for a ten-year period: A cash payment of $100 secures $100 in scrip, good for two $5 choice seats at the California-Stanford game at Palo Alto this year, and two choice seats at each "Big Game," whether at Berk eley or at Palo Alto, for the next following nine years. Sport Chatter When Johnnie Cline and Soldier Graham climb through the ropes for the main event at the American Legion stadium tomorrow night, there may not be a yard full of science but when it comes to a "slugfest" the fans will probably have their fill. Graham and Cline both are known to throw all caution to the wind when they get warm and start their mating tauties, so in four rounds there should be enough action to keep the crowd on its toes. George Moss and K. O. Swall are booked to exchange wallops on the semi-windup. Old Father Time, besides packing a pretty good wallop, is the four-round game's greatest comedian and worth seeing for his shadow boxing. Altho the forecast is cloudy, rain is looked for. Frankie Garcia, whose bout with Pal Moore ended in a near riot after Moore had received the decision, have been rematched to meet again Monday in the same ring at Memphis. This is the first crimp that has been put in the career of Garcia since he left this part of the country for his trip east and in which his meteoric flight toward the bantamweight crown has been matched with exceptional interest by boxing fans throughout the country. Earl France and Tommy Richards box the main event at Delhi tonight. Jack Iman, Anaheim middleweight, will tackle Danny Mackey in the semi-windup. Pete Hax this morning sent a telegram to "Irish" Meusel, the slugging demon of the Giants, wishing him the best of luck in the world series and, since Brother Bob is with the Yanks, expressing the hope the best team wins. "Irish" and Pete are "old college ghume." Try a Plain Dealer Wunt Au. Miss Nila Paulkner spent the week end with relatives at Riverside. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hall of Los Angeles and Mr. and Mrs. C. Moore, Jr., of Los Angeles, was elected trustee for the Hewin's estate. It is Moore's announced intention to wind up the affairs of Hewins in his relations to St. Ann's Inn as quickly as possible. A sale of the inn will be made upon the best terms possible. Moore, it is said, realizes that a sale must be made soon in order to get a favorable price, for a buyer will no doubt pay more for the lease now than he would after the season is well along. Moore is the man who was named as received by the federal court in Los Angeles a few weeks ago when Hewins was forced into bankruptcy. As receiver he has been in charge of the hotel for the past six weeks. Sixty claims were filed with B. E. Tarver, referee in bankruptcy. Among these are a number of claims from Chicago creditors of the De Jonghe Hotel and Restaurant Co., a partnership of Chicago. Hewins was a member of the firm. He states that he has not been associated with the company since July 20, 1920. Tarver is of the opinion that any creditor of the De Jonghe Co., who became a creditor after Hewins left the firm, cannot file a claim in the Hewins case here. Tarver has not yet passed upon the question as to whether the Chicago claims can be filed. M. Ledbetter, of Los Angeles. Both projects, it was declared today at the Newport Beach city hall, are expected to be completed within 75 days. There were four bidders, the Ledbetter offer being the lowest. The contract awarded was $17,600 for rebuilding the present pier and $3115 for construction of the boat landing at Palm street, Balboa. For the purpose $25,000 bonds were voted several months ago by the Balboa-East Newport-Balgoa island district. Attacho Thactor Demonstrated Here A demonstration by L. C. Harvey & Co. of Long Beach of the Attacho tractor, which was developed by William Patterson, who in 1892 built the first tractor for the J. I. Case Co. and later the "Harvest Queen," was given yesterday afternoon on the ranch of A. H. Murray on S. Los Angeles-st. The demonstration attracted much attention and the tractor was admitted to be the most unique thing of the kind that has ever been demonstrated here. Mr. Harvey was present and explained the tractor, A. J. Barnhart of Placentia, who invented a harrow and small plows which were tried out successfully on it, was also there. It can be attached to any auto within five minutes, the rear wheels of the car becoming fly wheels and transmitting power to the attacho which pulls the plow or other implements and pushes the auto. It can be used not only as a tractor but also as a truck, with a trailer attached, and a power plant to run thresher, hay baler, separator, silage cutter, lighting plant, feed grinder, circle saw, water pump or corn sheller. Its power is limited only by the power of the auto engine to which it is attached. The agency for the Attacho tractor is the Clemmer & Mullings Chevrolet garage on N. Los Angeles-st.
