SPORTING EVENTS Double Main Event at Legion Arena Thurs. Some wild fire action is promised to all boxing fans at the new American Legion boxing stadium tomorrow night. A double main event and some red by the marathon race are presented on the weekly program. Neff meets Young Dudley in one of the feature finals while Johnny Meyer and Jack Martin tie up in the other. Neff's whirlwind victory over Henry Gustine here a week ago has led local followers of the game to make him a favorite over Dudley in spite of the colored boy's excess weight. However, if Dudley connects with Neff he is liable to hit the floor, and on the other hand if Dudley doesn't connect Chest is more than liable to walk away with the decision. It looks like a sure hit on paddies. Johnny Meyer has been meeting the best of them and holding his own in his half dozen starts, and with these fasts he is considered a favorite over Martin. However, on dope the bout stands up against the same as the older preliminaries and looks to be as good. Leo Houck, who boxed Young Frisco last week will tangle with Johnny Leach, a hard hitting youngster from Santa Barbara. Houck lost the decision last week to Friacot, but put up such a fight that he won the local fans to his colors. If he shows up tomorrow as he did in his last start there probably will be plenty of action. Young Garcia, of Los Angeles, and Young Sheels, of Anaheim, bantam, furnishes the attraction on the third bout of the evening. Young Garcia comes here with a good record and a win will mean a lot to the local lad Jack Gordon and George Elmer, waiters, meet in the second go while battling Franklin Vernon, and Young Frankie Placentia, will raise the curtain. $700 RAISED WITH ATHLETIC CARNIVAL That the Anaheim Eiks championship baseball line will traced north to meet San Francisco, northern champions, at Santa Cruz next week, was assured last night as in result of the athletic carnival staged at Sparker fist ranch in which something between $700 and $1000 was raised. And to add that the Elks are there when it comes to promoting athletics is making it mild. The car was filled with laughs which made up for the lack of anything else on the part of several of the glowwollders. Two raffles were held between bouts in which a watch, diamond pin, box of cigars, cigar holder, lap robe, and cigar case were given away and many additional dollars were added to the coffers of the club by this method. Young Dudley, Anaheim's colored eyelid clone, and Jack Spar battled four rounds to a draw in the main event of the evening. Dudley failed to display some of his old-time aggressiveness and as a result Spar piled up points in all but one round and really was entitled to the decision. Spar led practically all of the way and the dusk boy seemed unable to turn the tide. It was a good mill. Sam Kaper won the decision over Jes Reed when the bout was stopped in the third round after Reed had taken considerable punishment. Jimmy Lloyd and Lloyd Neal boxed a four round exhibition bout while Red Matthews and George Kane went three rounds in an exhibition mill. The best bout of the evening was between Kid Leo and George Glimore, both Anaheim boys, who battled to a draw in four whirwind rounds. Glimore had a slight shade over Leo but the draw was a good decision. Girmore lined up for two rounds while the third was even with Leo making a hard fight to even things up in the final frame. J. Walloping Rufun and George Hardfist walloped each other around for four rounds in the curtain raiser, furiously enough for himself. DALTON VS. SPARKES' MEN Shakemaker Billy Hickman fascial pain has armpy bouts for the Friday night bill wilt and Billy Conley or runs in the main go. While it may not be of the world for pro-every promise of being fight from start to finish have their hearts set on to make up for with Johnny Clime or Conley to show kind of lighter than himself, claim for. Billy has gotten started but against class of Dalton; he chance to show and break him with life is rapidly rounded at the training quarters the ranch and by Prinkle pink to wilandtie. Dalton will be the goods this time as he fought Kid Mexico. For the semi-white will meet Kid Lamblee; Brown halls; Beech and there was sideder a mighty good four round game. First start in some by Lamb he will be Jock Imah; the husk Anaheim. It should mixup for both are wipe pack a kick in. Jimmy Lloyd is get when his attacks up wickets the Santa Ana sees to be one of those drag him out affairs. In the preliminaries by action seems to be good boys are on her lel. From up Perris we Duffy from the clays little friend Kid Lou way, meets Young dusky youth from Waiser ought to be the evening for Darnely pair of boys that are reputation. Drilling on the Nation Co's Olinda No 400 $535 PRIZES PAID TODAY IN TOURNEY The most successful bowling tournament ever held in Anaheim came to a close Monday night at the Anaheim Bowling Alley. Two five-men teams rolled and first honors went to Bill Karam's Anaheim Laundry team, whose score of 2725 made early in the tourney was never topped. Capt. Bill, with 610, ably seconded by "Shorty" O'Donnell, one of our C Bowers who turned in 614, set a pace that capped the championship. "Dad" Meek with his Gene Murry five had second score of 680. Bill Gordon's "Aces" of Anaheim were third, one pin behind. Hopping's Foundry of Pasadena, was fourth, score 2668, and the Venice C. of C. fifth, 2561. Three five teams all finished in the prize money. Johnson, of Anaheim, and Gardner, a C. Ace from Ocean Park, took first in the doubles, with 1177. Milt Varner and Geo. Theodore, local bowlers, were only one pin behind. Slike and Bill Barkley, of the Angelus Alleys, were third, with 1126. Dugas and Gordon of this city, next with 1132. Fifth place went to Stohe and Shaffer, of Venice, 1126; sixth to another Anaheim pair, Myre and Evans, 1130. Blump and "Dad" Meek shot 1106. Sunderland and Bogart, of Pasadena, 1092, while Efker and "Lone Star" Wulf just got in the money with 1094. Forty-one teams shot in this event. The singles were rolled in three separate classes—A, B and C. Cy Faylor, of Long Beach, rolled 598 for first money, while Way, of Long Beach, and Johnson of Anaheim, tied for second just one pin behind. Johnson looked like a sure winner until the eighth frame when he blew the five-pin, drew a split in the ninth, and failed to double in the last. Harry Meek shot 584 for fourth place, and "Buge" Raymond squeezed in the money with 575. There were 22 entries in this event and the same number in the B class, which was won by Galloway with the only 605 series in any single event. Brahm, of the Broadways, of IA., was second, 579; Massett, of the Gene Murphy, third, 566; being tied with Theodore, of the Champion. Purris, of the Broadway, brought up the rear with 565. Herman Effker rolled the highest single game of the tournament, 2666 but was unlucky enough to finish just out of the money. Louber, of Long Beach, took first place in the class C singles, with 5829 Lang of the Oak Boosters, second, 5733 Primer of the Lee Tires, third. Standing of Clubs PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE W. L. Pct. Jimmy Heffron is busy paying off the price today. The total prize money amounted to $535.00. Every Alley represented was able to get in the money some place, and almost every team. Annaheim did herself proud, carrying away something in every event. Sport Chatter One thing badly needed in both of the local boxing clubs is a louder gong. Ad Rombidoux's lay-off seemed to have done him a world of good according to the way he came back and walloped Edete Macy in the Main event at Vernon last night. According to reports, Macy never had a chance. Joe Murphy, the newest ban-tam sensation from Oakland, who was scheduled to meet Roubidoux, was unable to appear on account of tonalitis. The concern of most of the fans who saw last night's show at the Elks' cardinal is that Kapper's moniker of "Ironman" is appropriate in as much as he appears to be able to stop some awful ones. Chaffee Anniversary Sale September 10th to 30th DALTON VS. CONLEY SPARKES’ BIG EVENT Ballyhaker Billy Darnell Wills Sparkes’ firm has arranged a card of bixy snappy boutts for the club’s regular Friday night bill with Steve Dalton and Billy Conley or Anaheim featuring in the main go. While it may not look like the class of the world on print, it still gives every promise of being a million dollar fight from start to finish. Both boys have their hearts set on winning Dalton, to make up for that affair of his with Johnny Cline sometimes too and Conley to show the fanatism that he is kind of fighter, that his friends and himself claim for him. Billy has gotten off to a few poor starts but against a fighter of the class of Dalton, he will have every chance to show and it will either make or break him with local boxing bugle. He is rapidly rounding into shape out at the training quarters of the club on the ranch and by Friday should be in the pink to withstand a tough old battle. Dalton will be there with the real goods this time as he was the time he fought Kid Mexico here. For the semi-windy Chick Brown will meet Kid Lamb, of San Bernardo. Brown hails from Huntington Beach and there was a time he was considered a mighty good prospect in the four round game. This will be his first start in some time. If he gets by Lamb he will be given a chance at Laek Iman, the husky middleweight of Anaheim. It should be a whale of a mixup for both are willing mixers and each pack a klick in either mitt. Jimmy Bloyd is getting the acid test when he attacks up with ‘Delhi’ Fradericks the Santa Ana scraper. It promises to be one of those knock-em down drag him out affairs. In the preliminaries, some fast snapy action seems to be assured for some good boys are on the hill. Bennie Heller, from up Perris’ tackles Frankie Duffy from the city of Angels and our little friend Kid Louise from Placentia way, meets Young Sam Langford a dusky youth from Waits. The curtain raises ought to be the surprise of the evening for Darnley has lined up a pair of boys that are out for a real reputation. NO ENCOURAGEMENT FOR BIXY HILLS Bixy Hills The deep drilling on the Bixy hills has not netted anything as yet for the Bixby Hills Syndicate. The total value amounted to the sum of $244,099,-667 worth of crude materials. There were 50 different mineral substances, exclusive of a segregation of the various stones grouped under gems; and all of the 58 counties of the state contributed to the list. As compared with the 1915 output, the notable features of 1920 are: the continued increase in petroleum valuation; the decreases in the metals group, and increases in the structural and industrial groups. The net result was an increase of $46,269,665 over the grand total value of the year 1919, of which increase, petroleum accounted for more than 75 per cent. The metals group was the only one as a whole showing a net decrease, being due mainly to gold, copper and quicksilver. Notable increases were registered by silver annu lead.
