Tuesday, January 27, 1921 R-T. A. PROGRAM'S PLANNED FOR YEAR GARDEN GROVE, Sept. 27—The faculty of the schools, as well as a good number of mothers, attended a special meeting of the Parent-Teacher association last Thursday afternoon. The different committees were appointed to take charge of the activities for the coming year. The watchword of the association for this year is "Progress," and an urgent invitation reaches out to every mother or friend interested in the welfare of the community and of the children to join. The principals and teachers need the added encouragement and inspiration that interest in their work will create. We let us help not only with our support but with our presence," is the parent's slogan. The meetings will be held in the Garden Grove school, first Thursday of the month. The secretary, Mrs. G. Allen, will receive the subscription of each member, which is 25 cents a year. The need of a phonograph to help the teacher in their work was put before the members and a committee was appointed to select and purchase an instrument. Plans for a reception are under way. These jaunty souls find life too serious to take too seriously. But give me a solemn man, his visage stern with thinking, and I'll show you a man to whom life is fat and sweet to taste. Once, in London, the famous Scotch surgeon, Dr. Abernathe, was visited by a patient suffering from depression. The doctor found him sound of body and recommended gayer living, brighter environments and less introspection. A wan smile flitted across the visitor's face. "I AM Harlequin," he said.
