COLD DAYS ARE BAD FOR YOUR BATTERY
Automobile storage batteries have a burden row to hoe in cold weather than in warm weather, asseris Mr. Coell of the Automotive Electric Co., USL Service Station representative for this section. He said:
"The winter months, with their increased hours of darkness, take an extra toll in electrical energy from every storage battery. Even if a battery has stood up well during the summer season the surplus energy demanded by Wiper may cause it to fail by becoming prematurely discharged.
"The engine is always more difficult to start in cold weather because of the stiffening of the oil in the bearings and around the pistons and because the gasoline will not vaporize quickly. This engine resistance demands a further increase in the effort of the starter and consequently a more urgent call upon the battery to keep up the electrical supply."
These conditions should be anticipated by the motorist and preparations for the winter months made accordingly. If the battery, after a successful summer, does not indicate a normal test throughout, its faults should be looked after at once before it is subjected to the crucial test of winter.
AUTO INS. CLAIM COMES FROM WISCONSIN
To the east is east and the west is west, you never get too far east to be out of reach with the west.
So says T. J. Carroll of Sunset Beach, as he merrily spins along towards Florida, caring naught for the terrors of eastern roads. Why should he? He has insurance in the Auto Club of Orange-co.
Some one told Carrol that Florida winters were better than those of Calif., so, to find out that truth, Carrol packed up his belongings and started eastward.
Before he left he took the precaution of visiting the office of the Auto Club of Orange-co., and renewing his insurance, so as to be well protected while on his trip. He wasn't looking for hard luck, but was playing safe should it come.
And now he's glad that he did. Sure enough back in the cold and La Habra Items

Another family that thinks there is no place like California is that of Mr. and Mrs. W. Rhodes, of Florence-ave, who arrived here Monday evening from Wisconsin, where they have been spending the summer at Cewaukee, Wis. and in Michigan. The mother of Mr. Rhodes and Mrs. Julia Mills, of Pasadena, accompanied them home, Mrs. rhodes sr. is 84 years old and this is her first visit to the coast. She will make her home with the daughter, Mrs. Mills, at Pasadena.

HOTEL MAN TWICE ADJUDGED BANKRUPT
Federal courts have twice within the year declared William Hewins, who opened St. Ann's Inn at Santa Ana, a bankrupt, according to a Santa Ana attorney, who said that Hewins, who was adjudged a bankrupt recently in the federal court in Los Angeles, was also adjudged a bankrupt last March by a federal court in Illinois.
St. Ann's Inn is now being operated by William H. Moore Jr., as receiver. He was appointed by the court in which Hewins recently was adjudged a bankrupt.
A meeting of creditors has been announced by Ben Tarver, referee in bankruptcy for Orange co., for Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. The creditors have just filed with the referee their schedules of indebtedness against Hewins and the date for the meeting was set following the filing of the claims.
According to a recapitulation of assets and liabilities filed with the referee by Hewins, his liabilities are $247,125.76 and his assets are $235,000. The hotel property is listed as among liabilities and assets. Hewins holds a contract for purchase of the property under certain conditions.

STORY we may HOUSE that parlor and usse log really need on lessons.
There will not be man made doctrines or disciplines taught. We simply want to know more of the commandments and teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will have for our leader a very sincere and devout Christian sister, Mrs. Wilson from Long Beach, who has been in mission work for years, praying for lost souls and the sick, and the Lord her.
We especially invite all who wish to join in this good work, and those who need help for their body. It's all free, and we glad to give our home to the devotees of our Lord and will be pleased to help carry on His work.
It was requested at last Thursday afternoon's meeting to hold the services each Thursday evening at 7 o'clock, so the husbands could company their wives. Come, you surely get a spiritual treat. No section or suggestions for money.

A motorist saying.
Used sometimes for punctures.
Never for praying.
This dear Reader, is a very excited motorist. He is saying "D——! D——! D——!" And he is very angry:
He is very angry because his car is wrecked.
And he has no Insurance.
If he had joined the Automobile Club of Orange County, he could have had the benefit of their insurance at a very low rate.
But he didn't.
Do you see the lesson, dear Reader?

San Francisco has cause to blush for its "wide open" reputation. Virginia Rappe is in her grave today because of it. Other young lives have been blasted because of it. The lethal fruits of drunken orgies and wassail excesses are disgrace, misery, ruin and tragedy. Miss Rappe will not have died in vain if these execrable revels are broken up throughout the state.
