Expect Packed House at Legion Arena Thursday
A packed house is expected to witness the initial card at the new fight stadium tomorrow night, and an exceptionally good card has been lined up for the show.
The Neff-Ganttine tracas will undoubtedly be a slugging match and the remaining numbers back up the main events in this respect:
Old George Moss is billed to meet a tough boy in Joe Martin and someone can be expected to hit the canvas in this mill.
Final preparations for the reception of a big crowd are being made today and when the gong sends the boys away in the curtain raiser, 24 fast rounds of milling have been promised the fans.
Young Dudley, the fistic pride of Anaheim, met his waterloo at the hands of Jack Martin in the first round of their bout at Vernon last night. According to those who witnessed the fray, it was one of the most dramatic scraps. Dudley had figured in, Dudley caught Martin with a hook at the opening bell and floored him for the count of four. Martin regained his feet in time to catch another one from Dudley and went down for the second time. On regaining his feet he let fly with a right to Dudley's ribs and sent the colored phantom to the canyas for the count of nine. After Dudley had registered his feet from the second knockdown Martin shot a right to the wind and it was declared that 500 could have been counted over minutes before Dudley knew what had happened. From the opening young until the knockout the fight was 3 minutes and five seconds old.
CATCH OF SALMON REACHES BIG TOTAL
VANCOUVER, B. C., Sept. 20. — To date the entire catch of sockeye salmon in waters of British Columbia totals approximately 140,000 cases. Salmon canners have over 110,000,000 invested in the industry, and in 1920 they paid out to fishermen, cookers, cleaners and other employers about $6,000,000 in wages.
ANAHEIM LAUNDRY LEADING TOURNEY
Another big gallery last night saw the second evening's play in the So. Cal. Bowling tourney on the local alleys.
Annaheim Laundry's five-men team rolled 2725 last night, the highest score of the tourney todate. Tonight is Long Beach night, Clubs Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 taking the drives. The scores last night:

floored him for the count of four. Martin regained his feet in time to catch another one from Dudley and went down for the second time. On regaining his feet he let fly with a right to Dudley's ribs and sent the colored phantom to the canvas for the count of nine. After Dudley had regained his feet from the second knockdown Martin shot a right to the wind and it was declared that 500 could have been counted over minutes before Dudley knew what had happened. From the opening game until the knockout the fight was 3 minutes and five seconds old.
On behalf of Dudley, however, a majority of the fans are of the opinion that Martin put over the sleep producer by a lucky accident; in other words, the K.O. is considered a fluke.
When Martin brought Dudley down the first time after being knocked down twice himself, the crowd jumped to their feet and went wild until the knockout.
George Giffmre, a new comer, who boxes in the featherweight class, is working out daily at Sparke's fitness arm and will probably make his debut in the local ring within the next two weeks.
Jimmy Dlory, Anaheim's battling Elk, is working out every day and is looking toward more laurels. Jimmy's stock seems to have taken a considerable jump since his defeat of Perry Mack last Friday.
Johnny McManus, who boxes at Sparke's Friday night, won all the way from Ted Frenchie, one of the tournaments in the south, and received the biggest hand of the night on leaving the ring. It was out of the two star attractions of the program.
Eddie Macy held Joe Murphy to draw in the main event.
Bill Darnley will take Kid Louie and Joe Chaney to San Bernardino tomorrow where they are scheduled to box on the weekly card there.
As an added attraction at Berdoo tomorrow, Bull Montana, the beau brummel of mat artists, has agreed to throw Al Sparks once in 30 minutes. Local booster of the mat game are backing Sparkes to hold out for the full time.
Every day Jess Willard's chances to get another attempt at the heavy-weight crown seem to be better. According to latest reports, Tex Rickard is planning on the match for next July. Willard says he is training every day and declares he will regain the title. However, there are a whole lot of us that wonder if it really is the title that old Jess is after.
Dan Meek won the elimination bowling tourney.

ANAHEIM SWAMPS NORWALK ELEVEN
Anaheim high school foot ball team held first skirmish at the Norwalk gridfloor yesterday afternoon. The local team has not been picked and many of the boys were given a chance to show what they could do. Coach Youngman is very happy over the score. It was impossible to keep tally on account of so many goals.
If the speed shown in yesterday's game is a fair criterion, Anaheim is going to have a winning team.
The first game on the local grid will be played Friday with Los Angeles Poly High School.
O.E.LITTLE TEAM PLAYS ELKS SUNDAY
The A.E.Little team of Los Angeles will be the meat thrown to the tiger Sunday at Commonwealth park, when the chair Anaheim Elks seek a little practice to keep in trim for the Calif. titular fracas at the Elks state convention at Santa Cruz early next month.

ART RAMAGE HURT IN AUTO ACCIDENT
Baseball bugs nearly bad; heart failure today when they heard that Art Ramage, crack first baseman of the championship Anaheim Elks team, had been in a serious accident last night. However, Secretary M. C. Goff, after a visit to Ramage's home today, stated his injuries were limited to cuts from winfield glass on the chin and cheek-bone. Ramage told Goff he would be able to get around in a day or two, and that he expects to be in any ball games that impend between now and the bringing home of the state gonfalon.
Ramage was driving home in the fog last night and collided with a Los Angeles produce company's truck at North station. The truck was said to have been on the wrong side of the road and to have had only one light. Ramage's car is badly wrecked.

Miss Dugas Winner From Nat'l Champion
Ernie Dugas, of the popular firm of Dugas & Myre, dealers in bowling, ballarding, barber, lug and lunch countering, has ordered a new hat. The reason:
Last Night his daughter, Miss Melba Dugas, at the third week's round of the women's elimination contest at Venice, knocked off Mrs. Birdie Humphries, formerly Miss Birdie Kern; of Kansas City, who won the national championship for women bowlers two years ago.
Miss Dugas has been bowling for eight months but only recently became really interested since the mixed doubles journey started. Mrs. Humphries says the young Anahelia woman has a wonderful delivery, which apparently is natural to her. She backs speed with the heavy regulation ball she uses but this can be developed with practice.
Miss Dugas will be paired with Mrs. Hansbrough and Mrs. Menador vs. Mrs. Hackman in the semi-finals next week at Venice. Fans will predeceiting that Miss Dugas will face Mrs. Meador in the final. The score last night: Miss Dugal 125, 184, 162; Mrs. Humphries 183, 116, 153

LAGUNA WELL LOOKS GOOD AT 2900 FEET
Newport and San Joaquin Hike
The Laguna Oil Association drilling at 2900 continues to make hole in the brown shale, and is getting some encouragement.
At 2125 feet the Nu Stants struck sufficient showings of oil and gas to warrant the setting of a string of pipe. The ten-inch set at the above depth and the well will stand two weeks.
The Wirscher and Gray Oil company now has three wells underway. No. 1, under the name of the Wirscher-Gray Oil company, is at 2400, and showing a nice brown shade, a formation never heretofore found in the field. No. 2, under the name of the W. A. G. Oil company, is down 1325 feet. No. 3, W. A. G. Oil and Petroleum company, is rigging up and will spud in before the end of the week.
On the Long Beach Consolidated Newport property the U. S. Petroleum Syndicate has started installing equipment for production of heavy oil from the 11-foot blanket developed on the property at a depth of 345 feet. The oil in two wells has come up to within 175 feet of the top. This oil will be liquified with heat from steam coils and pumped out. The industry, if successful, will be a new one in the production of petroleum.
