SUICIDE'S FAMILY UNABLE TO EXPLAIN LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11—End- KITSELMAN WILL FIX UP BOHAN NO. TWO Hawthorne-Inglewood Field SUICIDE'S FAMILY UNABLE TO EXPLAIN LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21. Ending the investigation into the tragedy in which Albert Pemberton, 23, alias A. F. Burke, shot and killed Esther Greening, 20, and then ended his own life, certificates of murder and suicide were signed today at the coroner's office. Arrangements for the funerals of Pemberton and Miss Greening were expected to be completed before night. Pemberton's body is at the Overholtzer establishment, at 1236 Grand-ave, Miss Greening's body is at the Utter & Ruppe establishment. Frank Pemberton, father of the dead man, was unable to throw any new light on the tragedy. Neither was Pemberton's sister, Alice Violet Pemberton, 513 Gladys-st, able to explain his act. The police blame too many love affairs and too many "wild parties" as the cause of Pemberton's murder and suicide. Pemberton resided at 1817 W. Fifty-first-st and often posed as "Dr. Burke" in his affairs with girls, according to the police. BEAUMONT MIDWAY IS MAKING PROGRESS Riverside-San Bernardino The Beaumont Midway Oil company is making some actual progress. Rig building has started and the company is making some actual progress. Rig building has started and the company expects to be doing actual drilling inside of the next 30 days. The Riverside Oil Co., completed a temporary production test at a depth of 1200 feet and decided to go down. Drilling is now at 1500 feet and in hard sand. The Temple Riverside Oil Co., has built a rig and completed the rigging up work for well No. 1. Drilling is expected to start in a few days. The Arrowhead Oil and Land Co., is a new company backed by San Bernardino capital to drill for oil in what is known as the Cajon Basin country. The new company has completed the building of a rig and intends to go right ahead with drilling of the prospect well. MARK Blaby Hills The Bixby Hills Syndicate No. 1 has passed the 4500-foot-mark without getting any oil and is now close to 4600, drilling in brown shale and boulders. KITSELMAN WILL FIX UP BOHAN NO. TWO Hawthorne-Inglewood Field The Kitselman Oil Co. will fix up Bohon No. 2, drilled some months ago to 1365 feet, and make a gas producer out of it. At the Hicks well drilling was stopped at 4010 feet, and production will be developed if there is anything there at a depth of 2800 feet. At Playa Del Rey the casing stuck at 925 and efforts are being made to loosen it and go ahead. The Petroleum Development Co.'s Redondo well is now drilling in the oil sand at 2045 feet and looking more like an oil well than ever before. MARK Bixby Hills The Bixby Hills Syndicate No. 1 has passed the 4500-foot mark without getting any oil and is now close to 4600 drilling in brown shale and boulders. The outlook for a well is now not considered very promising. Few wells in the south make producers after passing 4500 feet. The National Exploration Co.'s Olinda No. 1 is now drilling at 2300 feet in sandy shale and is going ahead nicely. At Chino, No. 1 is standing cemented at 1157, and 1200 feet of holes. The National Security Oil Co.'s No. 1 drilling at 2835 is in a sandy shale and showing lots of gas. Indications now look good for production at 3000 feet. It is understood that the New York-California Oil Co., will resume operations soon. The well was drilled several months ago to 500 feet. SENATE TO RUSH PEACE TREATY O. K. WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 — President Harding today paved the way for quick action by the senate in ratifying the peace treaties with Germany, Austria, and Hungary. President Harding favors early action by the senate on the anti-beer bill, prohibiting the use of beer as medicine. Senator Sterling of South Dakota stated today after a conference with the President. THE "GREEN" HAND The Boss—"I thought you were plowing way over in the south field! What's the idea of bringing that tractor up here at this hour" His Nibs—"Why, I ran out of cylinder oil, so I drove her up to get some more."—Orchard and Farm. On the Murphy-Coyote lease the Standard Oil Co. is bringing in No. 84. drilled to 3000 ft. This makes a half dozen new wells on the Murphy-Coyote lease for the past year. Bastangbury No. 1 is now drilling at 4200 and will probably have to go to 4500 to get commercial production. The Whitley Oil Co. is having a lot of hard drilling at No. 7. The conglomerate struck at 2000 is continuing at 2200 and is so hard that the Reed Roller Bit is being used to make what progress is being made.
