Athletic Benefit for Elks Baseball Fund Tuesday
The next all-interesting event on the athletic program, since Sunday's downfall of the Pasadena national pastimers at the hands of certain brawny locals, will be an all-star athletic carnival at Al Sparke's Fistic-Farm on the Garden Grove-rd., next Tuesday evening, as a benefit event for the convention baseball fund.
The baseball treasury is in far better shape than it was a year ago, because of generous receipts at the second and third games with Pasadena, both of which the locals gar-nered. However, there isn't nearly enough to meet the expense for sending the squad half way up the state to Santa Cruz for the big championship contest with San Francisco.
Not only is Al Sparkes very generously contributing the use of his arena for the affair, but he will also contribute his services in a wrestling match. Some of the other events will also be gratis, so that the sale of tickets, which starts tomorrow, will be largely clear velvet for the baseball fund.

A. U. H. S. IN FIRST GRID SCRIMMAGE
Anaheim high school football team was "enjoying" its first scrimmage practice with foreign competition tonight at Norwalk, Coach Youngman's young huskies had phoned mother to have some soft blankets ready for more muscles and bruised shoulders when they returned.
Friday evening the first practice game will be played here with Los Angeles Poly.
Youngman, disappointed that his line is not so fast as he had expected thru loss of a couple of huskies, is pleased with the speed his crew is developing.
Sport Chatter
Young Dudley, the clever local colored boxer, who has done some exceptionally good work in the local ring, gets his first chance in an out of town club tonight when he meets Jack Martin of Los Angeles at Jack Doyle's Vernon Athletic club in the fifth bout on the bill. Dudley has done some very good work out at the local arena and his many friends and admirers wish him all the luck in the world.
Johnny McManus, who boxes Salmurry in the big double main event bill that Promoter Sparkes has lined up for next Friday night's weekly card also is on the Vernon bill tonight, meeting Ted Frenchle, one of the best little boys that ever pulled a glove on at the Vernon club. This will be McManus's first start in the Vernon ring in some time and the brown boy is deserving of all the success that comes his way for he is, without doubt, one of the clearest boys of his weight and class now boxing on the coast and never fails to give the fans a real run

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE FOR ORPHANS' HOME
An effort to place the California Children's Home Society on a more substantial footing by an annual membership plan is to be undertaken at once, according to Mrs. Jessie Jordan, state superintendent of the society. The new plan of the society will, it is expected, be strongly reinforced by prominent women of this and other cities. In a number of communities auxiliary committees already have been appointed who will co-operate with the society in promoting the interests of the homeless children of California.
Directors of the society have adopted the annual membership plan as the sole means other than personal solicitation of raising the necessary funds. Since the work of placing orphan or abandoned children in the homes of foster parents is growing throughout the state the necessity has arisen to increase the annual budget of the society. It is expected that this can be done entirely thrice the agency of the annual membership plan.
