CLUB SURPRISES MEMBER
I. J. Dwyer was happily surprised last evening on the occasion of his birthday anniversary when the members of the O. M. B. club came to the Dwyer home to enjoy a reunion. This club met for years to pass an occasional evening in cards, following a bounteous dinner at the homes of the members, but during the war the practice was discontinued due to a matter of conservation.
Mr. Dwyer had been in Los Angeles all day, and in the evening was resting and reading his Plain Dealer, when he was asked to answer the door bell. His surprise was thorny, but enjoyable, when the guests were admitted and proved to be the congenial crowd of four years ago.
Cards and visiting occupied the time, Mrs. McLaughlin winning the ladies' prize and Mr. C. E. Holcomb the men's prize. Refreshments were served later, the guests being Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Holcomb, Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Sandilands, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lewis, of Santa Fe Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adams.

After games the guests were invited to the dining room where they were served with refreshments in the color motif, the icees and cakes being in yellow and the tables centered with baskets of candies, tied with yellow bows. At the table the two-year-old bride and groom were showered with paper dollar bills, and other gifts in paper, as the second is the paper anniversary.

PREPARE FOR HOME SERVICE CAMPAIGN
Arrangements are practically completed for the Home Service Campaign of the Salvation Army in Anaheim, Fullerton and Orange. Encouraging reports are received from various sections of the county and a very generous response is expected.
An appeal is made this time for workers to give their personal assistance to the completion of the lest stallation of their Anaheim plan and the old residents express surprise and satisfaction at the arti- the manner in which the room fo- merly the Valencia Grill, has been changed to meet the requirement of the new business.
Their selection of our townmark: Mr.Herman Noll, as manager of this plant is in our opinion a materially and diplomatic stroke for which the officers of the company deserve the congratulations of the entire community.
Mr.Noll,a prominent citizen of Anaheim, since 1909,and known most of its residents, has contribu- ted his efforts to the upbuilding of the city and has stood out for every progressive movement that has placed Anaheim in the fore-rank of the cities of California.Has discovered in his civic activit- tives many hundred thousand of do- larars are spent annually by citizens of Anaheim for materials manu- tured in other cities that should be spent at home.In bakery pro- ducts alone he has determined tha- tthe amazing sum of $120,000,and nually can be saved the communi- ty by the establishment of a plant o- the type he is to manage where tha public is assured of obtaining bake- goods of every kind and o- quality surpassing any that can be had elsewhere.
Thru Mr.Noll, the Bake-Rite Co has selected Anaheim for one of its modern bakery plants, where a products are to be manufactured to full public view, and each purchaser to be his or her own health spector.
The Bake-Rite Co.was founded in 1918 by a few well-known expert bakers, dietitians and engineers of California. With ideals comprising sanitation in the handling and prepara- tion of food products, the most unique and instructive methods o marketing, these men with abili- matching their knowledge of tha busines- s,and with a limited capita- tal in less than three years' time
PREPARE FOR HOME SERVICE CAMPAIGN
Arrangements are practically completed for the Home Service Campaign of the Salvation Army in Anaheim, Fullerton and Orange. Encouraging reports are received from various sections of the county and a very generous response is expected.
An appeal is made this time for workers to give their personal assistance during the week of the 26th. All willing to assist report to Anaheim C. of C. to Mr. Wilson.
The annual Home Service Campaign of the Salvation Army has been made the subject of a special proclamation by Governor Stephens calling on the people of California to contribute of their means to the support of this worthy organization.
President Harding not only has issued a proclamation calling on the people of the country to support the Salvation Army, but has contributed his personal check for $5000 towards the work. Leaders of all walks of life throut the country have endorsed this work.
Samuel Gompers, the venerable president of the American Federation of Labor, has long been a very warm friend and staunch supporter of the Salvation Army. Among other tributes paid to them he says:
"From doughnuts to the Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man their work, both over there during the war and here during the times of peace, seems to approach the welfare of mankind here and now rather than deal altogether with—the sweet bye and bye."
This work among those burdened down under the crushing weight and pain of misfortune and sickness is just simply service without pretense—just good, practical service to mankind. In my judgment the Salvation Army deserves every encouragement for the service they have rendered and are rendering."
Subscription lists are at the following places, also with many of the merchants: Golden State bank, Southern County bank, First National bank, Anaheim National bank, and at the Drive Headquarters at the Anaheim C. of C.

SEEKS ANNULMENT
Stating she was innocent and unused to the ways and wiles of men
and the ways of the world, Louise Kniffing of Los Angeles, has filed suit in the superior court at Santa Ana for the annulment of her marriage to Frank Kniffing of Salt Lake City.
The plaintiff recites that she was married in Los Angeles, Oct. 16, 1920. Kniffing, she says, told her that they would live together as man and wife and that he would cherish love and support her.
According to the plaintiff, Kniffing disappeared immediately after the wedding, after informing her that "it was all a mistake."
Mrs. Kniffing says that she was 19 years old at the time of the marriage.
SENATE ELECTION IS HARDING TEST
WASHINGTON, Sept. 20—The senatorial election in New Mexico tomorrow is being viewed in political circles here as a test whether the Re-publican tide is waning or the Democratic party reviving. The election may also determine whether Attorney General Daugherty will be in the Ohio senatorial race in November, according to far sighted politicians.

Age does not come with the blare of trumpets. It creeps along on velvet slippers—and we are old before we know it.
THE woman who carelessly accepts her graceful slenderness as a permanent gift of the gods is suddenly amazed to find that a few added years have brought unpleasant figure tendencies that accentuate her age and betray the smooth beauty of carefully preserved hands and feet.
THE woman who carelessly accepts her graceful slenderness as a permanent gift of the gods is suddenly amazed to find that a few added years have brought unpleasant figure tendencies that accentuate her age and betray the smooth beauty of carefully preserved hands and face.
Nature needs help at any age—and just the right wisp of a corset worn in youth is a protection against the discouraging task of attempting to regain lost figure lines in later life. Good lines are far easier to retain than to regain.
There are some very decorative models in the original GOSSARD Front Lacing CORSETS so pliable and unobstrusive that you will be unconscious of their support except for a comfortable feeling of well being. Our expert service makes it possible for us to assume full responsibility for your satisfaction.
