OFFER PRIZES FOR SAVINGS ACCOUNTS
He was aged and gray, and came trudging down the road into Anaheim with a bundle on his back. He was stoop shouldered and weary—and worst of all, penniless. He sought work and found a small job that would have kept him in food for a day or more—that was all. The second day on the job he died, without known friends and was layed to rest in a potter's field. To the last a "knight of the road."
The glamor and romance dies when the grita reality of suffering and privations that go with it is brought out to the surface, and the example, sighted should be brought strongly before every youth so that he might be made to understand the necessity of preparing for the future.
The Golden State National Bank of Anaheim has begun a series of window advertisements that is intended to reach children and bring the benefits of saving to their minds.
This week's window contains a series of "whichs" made from pens which are being given away with each new Dollar Savings account. There are also several attractive cards containing philosophy from a well-known age.

Mrs. S. M. Lister Screams and Dog Aids in Capture of Purse Snatcher.
How Mrs. S. M. Lister, 518 East Adele-st, baffled a Mexican purse-snatcher on No. Olive-st about 9 o'clock last night was told in police court today.

ARBUCKLE DEATH
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15—Simultaneously with the giving of first statement issued in the defense of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, it became known today that a threat has been made to kill the accused film comedian unless he is sent to the penitentiary.
Frank Dominguez, chief attorney for Arbuckle's defense, gave out the statement that 14 surprise witnesses have been secured in the actor's behalf, outlined the plans of the defense and made the assertion that "Fatty" will be back home in Los Angeles by Sunday night.
He asserts the prosecution cannot prevent the release of Arbuckle on bail and says the actor will come to Los Angeles as soon as he gets out of jail.
The death threat against Arbuckle came in form of a letter to Henry Kelly, secretary of the grand jury which indicted the film star on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Virginia Rappe who died following a caroult in Anahiemh.
He merely identified the victim.
