Baldheads Are Sign Of High Ideals CHICAGO, Sept. 14.-A bald head is the noblest work of creation. It denotes not only sharp intellect, but likewise sterling character and high ideals. These are the words of wisdom and cheer Wilbur Glenn Volyn, supervisor of Zion City and head of the Church of Zion, today broadcasted to the men now bald, or whose focks are rapidly disappearing. The same of Zion declared, after months of study among unbarbered tribes of the north shore regions, that baldheaded creatures will never be found in males of any lions for the insane. S. O. INCREASE VALUATION Through the addition of the school districts of Peralta and Silverado and the general increase in property values, the Orange Union high school district has increased $800,000 in assessed valuation during the past year. The assessed valuation of the district is now $11,096,130.00 as against $10,296,620.00 in 1920. Of this increase, about half a million is due to the addition of new districts. The rest is the result of appreciated property values. BOHON 1 AT 5155 Hawthorne-Inglewood-Redondo The Standard Oil Co. quit drilling on Bohon No. 1 at 5155 and preparations are being made to abandon the well. Aside from the big gas blow out that occurred early in the drilling of the well the Bohon never showed any oil indications. Close watch of the formation was kept all the way down. The gas accompanying the first blow-out was found to be marsh gas and contained no petroleum. Landowners No. 1 on adjoining property was drilled to 2800 and stood awaiting developments in the Bohon well. The Union Oil Co.'s Sommers No. 1 is now drilling at 3900 and to date has shown no very encouraging signs of oil. Francis No. 1 is drilling at 350 fet and is just getting started. The Chansler-Canfield-Midway Oil Co.'s test well at Redondo is now cleaned out to bottom, the screen pipe replaced with solid pipe and everything in readiness to continue drilling on into the oil sand. As a successful water shut off was accomplished the first attempt nothing has held the well back and it should be on production now in about three weeks. As the drilling goes ahead the oil continues to come up thrus the mud and flow over the top of the pipe. Kitselman drilled the Merton well to 2629 feet and not getting any showing worth considering has followed the action of the Standard Oil Co. and abandoned the well., Testing out the Hicks at 3800 feet continues. At Playa Del Rey the pipe stuck at 925 and no progress has been made during the past week. Gardena has lost its chance of becoming an oil field. The Eddistone Oil Corporation drilled Rosecrans No. 1 to 2825 and had so much trouble shutting off water that a decision was reached to abandon the well. LANDowners HOSTEIN HAS BIG RECORD FOR YEAR Mike Babylon, a well known Orange-co dairyman living one mile south of Santa Ana, owns a mixed herd of grade and purebred dairy cattle. Lady Josephine De Kol Xtasso, an eight year old type purebred Holstein cow owned by Babylon, just closed a 12 months' lactation period producing 21313 pounds milk and 1084 pounds butter. This dairyman has been faithful booster of the Farm Bureau County Cewtesting association and follows very progressive methods in carrying on his dairy business. This record was made in the county cewtesting association and is the highest producer purebred cow that is under test. "Xtasso" as Babylon's cow is commonly known, made a 7-day record of 14-14 pounds butter when she was 23 months old. This animal is not only a real individual but has some prominent ancestors in the Holstein-Freeland world. Xtasso is hired by "Xtasso Gem of Salida", who had two A.K.O daughters, and out of Leda Josephine De Kol, who also held a seven-day record. Babylon intends to dispose of all grade cows and in time breed nothing but purebred Holsteins. He certainly has some wonderful foundation stock. Two of "Xtasso's" daughters are also now in Babylon's herd. This record cow, and her two daughters will be shown at the coming county fair this year, which is September 28th to October 1st, inclusive, Huntington Beach.
