FEAR ROTARY B. B. CLUB MAY BACK OUT Vic La Mont; baseball promoter of the Klwansis club, today issued a claion call for attendance at the baseball clash next Wednesday evening at the high school grounds between the Klwansis and Rotary clubs. "I am especially anxious that all members of the Rotary club be present in order that they may not miss the humiliation of seeing the poor scrubs on the Rotary club trodden under feet," declared LaMouf, "My only worry is that the Rotary club will not back out at the last moment, realizing the inevitable fate that awaits." Maf. DeSombre will see that law and order prevails. He has kind lots of experience and will make your SNAP IN TO IT. Geo. Dunton will provide all with Lizzies (if they have the money). Judge Howard will see that the speed laws are obeyed. A. B. McCord will save your money. The event: Bill Selman, catcher; Bill Wallop, pitcher; Bill Webb, first; Al Nowatny, second; Dave Jessuril, short; Metcalf, third; Geo. Sloop, short; Jno. Holditch, left fielder; Paul Hester, center fielder; Geo. Dunton, right fielder. Subs: Henry Adams, Joe Clayes, Frank Elsonhauer, Mal Fraser, Bill Ralkenstein, Al. Graham, J. Geissenger, Bill Goodrum, Will Grafton. Rev. Messias will conduct the services (after the game) and Loule Danz will furnish the music. Members of the Kawanis club will be at the high school grounds not later than 4:30. Everybody come to the proceeds go to the BOY SCOUTS. Admission 25 cents. Sport Chatter Bennie Heller and Jack Moran featured the weekly boxing card at San Bernardino last night, the former boy taking the decision. Heller had his way all through the bout and was an easy winner. Johnny Weber and Louis Stroner fought a draw in the main event, those at the ringside giving Weber a slight shade over Stroner. John Adams took the decision over Young Frankie Garcia in the semi-windup. Kid Lamb k. o.'d Jesse Reed in the first round of the second bout on the program, while Bobby Barton stopped Morris Levy in the second round of the curtain raiser. Tonight's card at the Anaheim Athletic is the equal if not somewhat better than the bouts of last week if the line-up on paper is indicative of what can be expected. Last week's show was the best one held in the local plant for several moons, and if tonight's arguments are no better they will be worth traveling a long way to see. Tonight's main event is the first one that has appeared to be the stellar attraction, however, Ralph Lincoln and Johnny McManus are two battants that always give the crowd a good run for their money. The pair are probably more evenly matched than any two who have appeared on main events here for several weeks. The remainder of the card is: Jack Ilman vs. Ben Smith; Clarence Roubidoux vs. Joe Chaney; Johnny Adams vs. Owen Marks, while the inevitable Kid Loule will assist Joe Carey in raising the curtain. Effort to obtain Steve Dalton and Billy Conley for the main event at the Anaheim club for next week are: Orange-co's stead shown in the district ports of the So. Canyon W. L. The legal of the resolution follows: In view of the deplorable consequences of the World War and for the sake of permanent peace among the nations, and the future welfare of humanity, we declare our hearty endorsement of the principle of disarmament and earnest desire that it be realized by international co-operation. METERS TELL DEVELOPMENT Orange-co's steady growth is shown in the district operating reports of the So. Calif. Edison Co., W. L. Delmiling, district manager, with headquarters in Santa Ana, declared today. No comparative figures actually are available at this time, he explained, because it is less than a year since his district was divided into north and south sections. The division was made Feb. 1, this year. The Santa Ana division includes the southern half of the county. Despite the division, however, Delmiling expects this southern district before the end of the year to grow to a size in number of meters equal to the total of the undivided territory at the time of its bisection. Commenting on this growth, Delmiling said: "Taking the last reports which give comparative figures on the district as it was before February of this year, the Edison Co.'s business increased 44 pct. in the 1920 period. This was an increase of 1775 meters." When the division was made this district lost 2468 meters, but during the last five months meters have been set at the rate of 250 to 300 a month. It is evident, therefore, that the business of this smaller district will equal in all probability the business of the undivided territory before the year ends. Perhaps this will mean meters only and not revenue, as some of the largest revenue producers are in the northern district. The franchise tax paid by this district for the last period, based on six pct. of revenue, was somewhat over $3800. Most of the public utility corporations in this vicinity pay a franchise tax of two pct., but the Edison Co.'s franchise still remains six pct., as it was granted in the early days of light, very little light, and power when Belmont Perry was the man in charge. Quite a difference in the size of the business now. Broadway to the railroad tracks and west to the Los Angeles-co line, and everything south of that line, in Orange-co. The northern district has its own central station. "Huntington Beach, of course has shown the most phenomenal growth within this district. For 20 years, I suppose, Huntington Beach had a new meter set about once a month. Now we are selling from 10 to 15 meters a day to that prosperous community. "Selling meters, whether in Huntington Beach or any other place within the district, usually means a new house, a home, or a place of business. "It applies in a like manner to meters thrustout the district. A new home undoubtedly is a great asset, as much as is a new business. "So the meters sold by the Edison Co. tell quite a story of the growth of Orange-co." MOKE EMPLOYMENT IN EAST PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 9. — Replies to questionnaires sent by the Philadelphia C. to over 100 cities in 13 Atlantic seaboard states indicate a steady increase in employment in the last six weeks. WANTED—Position Experienced out Compare Chaffee’s Grocery Prices $ The Dollar Mark $ 20.4 Acres 1744 Trees 1126.65 feet In eight years accurately compiled statistics have proven that the average price paid to Valencia orange growers of this county has been $2.78½ per box. In accepting these figures as a working basis I am in a position to show you a 20.4 acre orange grove, situated in the city limits, that will pay a net income of 22 per cent on price asked. This grove containing 1744 trees is acknowledged to be the best in Orange county, embracing the finest soil, extra large trees suggesting a most healthful state, and a most prolific setting for next year. On but 10 acres of this grove there is at the present time an estimated crop conservatively placed at over 6000 packed boxes. No one will refute my statement when I say that on no other grove will you see manifested the intelligent care and attention as has been accorded this particular acreage. In conjunction with its wonderful value as an orange grove consider carefully its equally valuable location, right here in Anaheim a few minutes from the center, frontage on three streets and only a short distance from the new park. Another feature, one of the streets on which this grove faces will, when paved, be the direct road to Los Angeles. Think what this will mean. This is absolutely the best proposition ever offered in Anaheim, and at the price asked it has an immediate resale value or by holding as an investment will prove to be most lucrative. It will pay you to consider this grove before purchasing elsewhere. You can’t afford to permit this opportunity to escape.
