POULTRY AND STOCK RAISERS’ EXHIBIT
The coming County Fair to be held at Huntington Beach Sept. 28129-30 and Oct. 1st is the "Biggest Hit of the Year."
An appeal is being made to the poultry and pet stock producers to exhibit their stock this fall.
To do this we need your co-operation by means of liberal number of entries of all kinds of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, rabbits and Pet Stock.
No entrance fees will be charged and your exhibits will be in the care of an able caretaker. We have a large tent for our own use. Let us fill it to capacity.
Do not hesitate to enter because your stock may not be as pretty as later, remember it is the same month all over the county and you all have the same chance to win. There is nearly a month yet and you cannot win unless you try.
Liberal cash rewards will be given besides ribbons and several speeches will be given by various business men.
It will be impossible for us to visit each poultry raiser in this short time so kindly assist us by dropping us a card at once and tell us what kind and size exhibit you wish to make so we may make ample cooping arrangements. If in doubt write us and we will do all we can to help you make your choice.
Remember this is a County Fair. Let us make it one we may be justly proud of. Exhibits wanted from all parts of the county. Then come and see the splendid results.
Send communication to Hubert P. Howell, Chairman Poultry Committee, Santa Ann, Calif., R. P. D. No. 5, Box 24.

BATTERIES HAVE A QUICK COME-BACK
Automobile storage batteries, some of them at least, have a surprisingly quick "come-back" after having been drawn upon almost to the point of exhaustion. This phenomenon was explained yesterday by Mr. Cecil of the Automotive Electric Co., USL Service Station representative for this section, an expert on all kinds of storage batteries in general. He said:
“This automatic recovery of energy in a battery is known to all service men and to many experienced car drivers. Suppose for example that a battery, after discharging heavily, has barely enough energy left to make a feebly attempt to get the starter going. Or perhaps the starter will not respond at all to the pressure of the starting button.
“Following these unsuccessful attempts let the battery take a little rest—say for 15 minutes. The battery is not charging but simply at rest. Following this period of rest the battery will be jumping with rejuvenated pep—in fact showing a surprising capability.”
Experts have estimated that Ireland's water courses could be economically harnessed to produce power equivalent to the annual consumption of 7,500,000 tons of coal.
An easily detachable radiator for automobiles, which can be made to fit any type of car, has been invented to facilitate repairing or prevent freezing in cold weather.

VOLCANO VACATION ABOUT OVER, TOO
HONOLULU, T. H., Sept. 9.—The lava in Halemaumau, fire pit of Kilauea volcano, is rising quite rapidly now, according to the latest report of Volcanologist Jagger, and is only 260 feet below the rim of the pit. If the present rate of rise continues, Professor Jagger looks for an overflow at some time in October or November, probably accompanied by activity more spectacular than that seen during the eruption in March, 1921.

GREEKS FLY U.S. FLAGS ON WARSHIPS
SMYRNA, Asia Minor, Sept. 9—Back of the Greek front in Asia Minor where the great struggle of 600 years between Turk and Greek is being decided one would say that the United States was engaged in the war some way, from the number of American flags that are to be seen everywhere. On American holidays every Greek warship was dressed in honor of the days, and the old "Mississippi," now the Greek battleship "Lemnos," carried an American flag as big as a tablecloth at her masthead, in honor of the foot that one flew there for many years before the white and blue of Hellas.
APPRECIATES U.S.RELIEF
WASHINGTON, Sept. 9—Archbishop Alexander, after his return from Russia, in an interview with President Harding, thanked him and the American people for their aid to Russian refugees, and asked that this help be continued and extended.
ANAHEIM LANDING LOTS
For over 60 years Anaheim Landing has been the favorite resort of the old timers. For that entire period the surrounding territory has remained in an ownership that refused to sell. Recently the Ord Land Co. of which P.A. Stanton is president and principal owner, acquired the tract known as the "Island" or sand spit. A portion of this, fronting on the bay, has been subdivided into building lots, all graded, paved streets, and water installed.
The bay lots are real water frontage, running directly into the bay where one can fish from his front porch, the street frontage being in the rear.
The popularity of the tract is attested by the sales, nearly one-half of the tract being sold. R.D. Richards is the agent in charge. The owners claim this is the only real water front tract offered for sale in So Cal.

MINISTER WARNED TO STOP CRUSADE
NEWPORT, Ky., Sept. 9.—"Preach the Gospel; quit visiting gambling rooms and disorderly houses."
This warning was received by the Rev. E. R. Overly of this city, known as the "fighting person." For several weeks he has been accounting Sunday after Sunday from his pulpit the things he learned in a visit to alleged resorts within a stone's throw of the Campbell country court house.
Despite threats, Overly declares he will continue his crusade until officials take it up. He has invited the men of the church to accompany him on his next tour of inspection.

BRUNSWICK TIRES
Texas joined the Union in 1845. The Brunswick career began the same year. You know the history of both. With Brunswick it has been seventy-six years of striving for excellence.
When Brunswick went into the tire business it resolved to build the best tire possible. Every important principle in tire building was considered to find out which principles were best.
The result is an easy-riding, sure-footed, long-lived tire that gives you the utmost for your money.
Let your next tire be a Brunswick and you will soon have all Brunswicks.

RICHFIELD CONS. TO PAY 2 PCT. DIVIDEND
The Richfield Consolidated is perhaps the first of the "wildcat" companies in this section to announce a dividend.
Official announcement will be made tomorrow that beginning October 1 the stock will be placed on quarterly dividend bases of 2 percent, the first dividend being payable on that date.
It is said that this dividend may be increased later on as more wells are brought in.
It is also said that the Richfield Giant, the old Heffern No. 2, is showing oil as bailing proceeds, the water evidently having been shut out.
Yesterday the bailer had gotten down 2000 feet and was bringing up almost pure oil of about 18 gravity.
Not a great deal of gas was showing although it was said that this was not remarkable as the oil was coming up through 2000 feet of mud and water from the bottom of the hole.
Bailing is proceeding and those interested in the well are greatly encouraged.
SOME GOOD ADVICE
Strengthened by Anaheim Experiences
Kidney disease is too dangerous to neglect. At the first sign of backache, headache, dizziness or urinary disorders, you should give the weakened kidneys prompt attention. Eat little meat, take things easier and use a reliable kidney tonic. There's no other kidney medicine so well recommended as Doan's Kidney Pills. Anaheim people rely on them. Here's one of the many statements from Anaheim people.
S. C. Marburger, carpenter 121 S. Ohio St.; says: "I can endorse Doan's Kidney Pills as a good remedy. My kidneys got out of order and I had severe backache and pain."
