ROTARY LAYS PLANS TO DEFEAT KIWANIS A resolution was unanimously passed at yesterday's meeting of the Anaheim Rotary club at the Cherry Blossom cafe that the Rotary club beat the stuffing" out of the local Kiwanis club next Wednesday afternoon in a baseball game on the high school grounds, and it was noised abroad that when the Kiwanis leaders "got wind" of the line-up that will be used by the Rotarians they sent out "feelers" to call off the game. However, the Rotarians declare they will not compromise and that they will keep the "foothold," they have obtained and drive the Kiwanians from the field in a "fair-fought battle." The "feelers," they declare, are advance notice of certain victory. An effort is being placed on foot to close up the whole town Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock that employees and employers alike may attend the game, which will be called at 5 o'clock. The game will be preceded by a parade in which the city band will take part. The probable lineup of the Rotarians as given out is as follows: Drs. Johnson, Cole and Truxaw, Bill Dolan, S. C. Hartrahlft, O. A. Mullinix, John Ruether, Tom McFadden and Leonard Evans with Harry D. Riley as a substitute. The proceeds of the game will go to the boy scouts. The Rotarians also enjoyed an eloquent talk on aviation given by George Prince. There were several out-of-town visitors. Ralph Lincoln, clever Los Angeles 118-pounder who meets Johnny McManus In the main event at Anaheim Athletic club tomorrow night. When Johnny McManus and Ralph Lincoln climb through the ropes at the Anaheim Athletic club tomorrow night, local followers of the "leather pushers" will probably see a bout that will contain all that goes to make real class, McManus and Lincoln are listed among the five best bantams showing in the southland. Jack Iman, local middleweight, and Ben Smith, of Los Angeles, mix in the semi-windup. Iman won't have the soft job this week that he did on the last card, and a real "slugfest" is expected. RUSHING WORK UPON NEW LEGION ARENA Work is progressing rapidly upon the No. Los Angeles-st. arena of the Anaheim Athletic Assn., where boxing programs will be staged under the auspices of the American Legion. The ring has been completed and carpenters are rushing the huge gallery to completion. There will be over 1200 seats. For the opening card, date to be announced in a few days, Willie Hunnelfel will be one of the headliners. Efforts are now being directed toward securing a fitting match for the former Pacific Coast amateur light weight champion. Hunnelfeld defeated Herb Brodle at San Berdoo last week. He was also matched at San Diego last night. George Blake, Vernon referee, has been secured as arbiter here, it was announced today. STRONA, KETCHEL AWAIT DELHI GONG Louis Strona, the Santa Ana boxer, put the finishing touches on his training yesterday and is in the best of shape for this main event at Boyd Ellis Delhi arena tonight. Strona will fae the hard-hitting Young Ketchel, a man of experience and skill. Ketchel appeared Tuesday night at Vernon, but is all set for his tonight, according to word from manager. Local fight fans have displayed keen interest in the bout as the Santa Ana man looked good in his appearance at stopping his opponent in the first round. Two bouts are on the card tonight which should provide kick aplenty. K. O. Swall of Santa Ana goes on with Eddie Mackey of New York. These boys should slug their way through. The other is between Sam Casper of Bakersfield and Jess Reed of San Bernardino. PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE W. L. Pet. McManus and Lincoln are listed among the five best bantams showing in the southland. Jack Iman, local middleweight, and Ben Smith, of Los Angeles, mix in the semi-windup. Iman won't have the soft job this week that he did on the last card, and a real "slugfest" is expected. Clarence Roubidoux, brother of the famous Ad, and Joe Chaney will meet in a return match as a special event on the program. The two fought to a draw here two weeks ago. Little Johnny Adams is booked again and will take on one Owen Marks, of Los Angeles. Young Marks is unknown around this locality, but if he will stand up to the boy from Berdoo, a real fight is assured. Adams has won many friends here by his showing in the two local starts he made. Kid Louie and Joe Carey will raise the curtain. Bill Darnley will be the third man in the ring. Jesse Reed and Sam Kaspar battled four hard rounds to a draw Kin the third bout on the program at the weekly show of the Delhi Athletic club last night and furnished the star attraction of the evening. Both boys are fast and clever and from the opening session until the final bell they kept the crowd on their tects. Louis Stroner and Young Stanley Ketchel, of Helena, Mont., also received a draw in the main event. Stroner staggered Ketchel with a hard right to the jaw in the first round and almost dropped his heavier opponent, but Ketchel managed to hang on and by using his weight to an advantage worked himself into a draw. K. O. Swall, of Santa Ana, received the decision over Eddie Mackey, of Los Angeles, in the semi-windup, while Babe Flores knocked out Young Hacker in the third round of the second bout on the program. Jimmy Lloyd, Anaheim's "battling Elk," lost the decision to Young Sheiler in the curtain raiser. Bill Darnely, matchmaker and referee at the local club refereed the bouts. The cost has been reported at different times as $12,000 and $13,000. Coach Smith of the Fullerton high school has returned from his summer vacation, and, with Athletic Director Lewis, is getting ready for the football activities which will begin with the opening of the school Monday. Bill Darnley, the new boss at Sparkes' fistic farm, has some of the best boys in the south lined up for future events and believes that he will have some local shows that exceed anything in this part of the country. Bill has been passing judgement on the mitt wielders for many years, and knows practically every fighter of consequence on the coast. He should be able to give the local fans some real sport. Harry Shipke, all southern tackle on Fullerton high school's championship foot ball team last year, has entered Stanford University where he will try for the Card Frog eleven. This grove containing 1744 trees is acknowledged to be the best in Orange county, embracing the finest soil, extra large trees suggesting a most healthful state, and a most prolific setting for next year. On but 10 acres of this grove there is at the present time an estimated crop conservatively placed at over 6000 packed boxes. No one will refute my statement when I say that on no other grove will you see manifested the intelligent care and attention as has been accorded this particular acreage. In conjunction with its wonderful value as an orange grove consider carefully its equally valuable location, right here in Anaheim a few minutes from the center, frontage on three streets and only a short distance from the new park. Another feature, one of the streets on which this grove faces will, when paved, be the direct road to Los Angeles. Think what this will mean. This is absolutely the best proposition ever offered in Anaheim, and at the price asked it has an immediate resale value or by holding as an investment will prove to be most lucrative. It will pay you to consider this grove before purchasing elsewhere. You can't afford to permit this opportunity to escape.
