PAGE FOUR City Briefs F. C. Rimpau and sister, Miss Sophie Rimpau were called to Los Angeles by the illness of their brother, J. L. Rimpau. The brother rallied a little after their arrival, but still is in a critical condition. Mrs. L. B. Resh, accompanied by Mr. Pillsbury, went to Pomona this afternoon, where they attended the funeral of Mrs. D. G. Miller, a very dear friend of Mrs. Resh's. Deceased will be remembered by many here, as her husband was in the dry cleaning business before moving to Pomona about two years ago. They resided near the Mann apartments. Miss Louise McGurk, of Alambra, was the guest this week of Mrs. Goo, A. Rice. Lawrence Ridenour, who was the guest of his sister, Mrs. G. A. Rice, has returned to his home in Maricopa and is again at his duties with an oil company there. Mrs. Ames, near Stanton, was entertaining her daughter, from Los Angeles for a few days early in the week. Misses Betty West and Lydia Davis were among the Anahelmeri at Balboa last night. Among the people who were at the La Fiesta dance last night at Balboa were Lanette Ruele and Gay Cook, Charley Leimer and Leavitt Ford, Helen Pierpoint and Dickie Dickenson. Misses Luelle Nenno, Eugene Wilkle Gladys Fuller and Messrs. Jack and Bill Harrison were Balboa visitors last night. Ira Chandler and Bill Taggart attended the dance at Balboa last night. Miss Virginia Noll is spending her vacation with friends at Seven Oaks. Miss Marie Noll is enjoying a vacation at Balboa. Mr. and Mrs. W. Compton, Miss Clem Backs, Mr. Kurt Epstein and Mrs Fred Mickle will motor to Paasadena Glen this evening and spend the evening with other Anaheim friends. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murch and family attended the Community Fair in Downey today. Miss Viola Muckenthaler, Mrs. Victor Bennat and Mrs. O. A. Miles motored to Long Beach today, Miss Musical Theater cousin of Miss where they were the guests of their mother, Miss West taught several years in Anahaim, but leaves soon for her duties in the grammar schools in Bakersfield. W. A. Ross and Lloyd Ross and Mr. Hunt have gone to Idlewild for a week's outing. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Randall and children will go to the beach this evening to visit with Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Larabee for the evening. Dr. and Mrs. J. Patterson and children, Grisida, Esther, Carrol, Clare and Beth were dinner guests today of Mr. and Mrs. A. Rannow. Mrs. Martin Rusmus and children, were visitors in Balboa Beach yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. George Rehman drove to Los Angeles in the forenoon and to Long Beach in the afternoon yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Payne and son, Woodrow, are spending a couple of days at Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. John Cochran and daughter, Minnie Bell, from Indianapolis, Ind., are visiting old friends in Anahaim and vicinity. They motored thru and found the camping grounds very good but had a hard trip over the desert. Mr. Cochran sees a wonderful change in the eight years since he visited here before. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Barnes entertained the latter's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Weatherst, of Los Angeles, and Mr. and Mrs. John Cochran and daughter, Minnie Belle, from Indianapolis, Ind., to dinner last evening. Mrs. E. R. Barnes entertained her cousin, Mrs. Frank Fuller, of Long Beach yesterday. Mrs. Delilah Baker and Miss Lucille Baker leave today for a few days outing at Oceanside. Mrs. W. Amstuts is expecting her brother-in-law, Mr. Edmund Amstutz of Nabh, today for an extended visit. Mrs. W. E. Alexander returned Monday from a seven week's visit with her mother, Mrs. J. A. Boyd, and her sister, Mrs. T. R. Powell, on the desert. Mr. and Mrs. N. G. McDowell were visitors at Mt Wilson on a recent day. COUNTY FAIR VERY COMICAL AFFAIR GARDEN GROVE, Aug. 25.—The Baptist Young People's union of the Baptist church enjoyed a "County Fair" social at the home of Mrs. Dessa Emerson last Wednesday evening. The guests dressed in farmer's attire arrived at the "Emerson Fair grounds" at 8 o'clock and enjoyed in true hinterland fashion the interesting exhibits. Besides the fat women, the homeliest creature in captivity, the giant, and Miss Tiny Little, the fair afforded a swing, see-saw, crazy house and picture show for entertaining. A portion of the evening was spent in contests and games, after which ice cream cones and lollypop were served from the ice cream stand. The guests numbered about sixty. The Garden Grove C. of C. has accepted the invitation of the manager of the Hotel Whitecomb in San Francisco to display their publicity matter on the California booster rack maintained in that hotel. The Garden Grove C. of C. is making plans for the banquet and get-together meeting to be held the second Monday in September at the Garden Grove hotel. The Besta Sigma class of the M. E. Sunday school and teacher, Mrs. Geo. Reyburn will motor to the Orange-co park Tuesday evening and have a picnic supper. The Rev. W. M. Harkness, of the M. E. church, had charge of the union services held at the Free Methodist church Sunday evening. Sad news was received here last week by Mrs. Amy Graves telling of the death of Mrs. Julia K. Turner, Sunday, August 14, at Ortly, S. D. Mrs. Turner made her home with Mrs. Graves for three months last winter, and during her stay here made of Huntington Beach, and Mrs. Mamie Harris, of Long-Bench. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Elllett entertained the following relatives at dinner Thursday evening: Miss Marlon Magnusson went to Los Angeles Tuesday for a few days' visit with friends. Miss Ethlyn Lee returned from Santa Barbara Wednesday after a three week's visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Gerly returned from Long Beach Thursday, where they spent a couple of days. Miss Georgeena German has accepted a position in the art department of the Toy shop in Santa Ana, and began her duties Monday. Misses Mettle and Lella Chaffee and Mrs. Belle Helm and daughters, Marion and Keta, returned Thursday from Laguna, where they passed a couple of days. Irvine German and family are enjoying a week's vacation in the canyon beyond Orange-co park. The Rev. O. W. Relinas, former pastor of the M. E. church, accompanied by his wife, arrived here last Thursday from Brawley, for a visit with old friends. FAMILY REUNION OF LA HABRA PIONEERS LA HABRA, Aug. 25.—Of much interest to old timers was the family reunion, held at Ganesha park, Pomona, on Sunday, by the Warne brothers. The senior Warnes were pioneer residents of the valley, having lived for several years on what is now the Sargent Brothers' citrus ranch. The ranch was then set to deciduous fruit and the old ranch house still stands on the place. There were seven brother and their families who picnicked under the trees at the park. These were: C. E. and R. B. Warne and wives, of La Habra; S. C. Warne and family of Pomona; J. E. Warne and family, of Ontario; the T. E. Warne's of Charter Oak; Mr. and Mrs. L. O.
