PRODUCING MORE THAN EVER Placentia-Richfield The Amalgamated Oil Co., is putting the finishing touches on to the rigging up work on Thompson No. 1 and drilling will start today. Bayha No. 1 shows 2157 feet in the blue shale Mann No. 1 has a side-tracking job at 3268. Page No. 1 lost a lot of hole and is redrilling at 1200. Potter No. 2 continues to produce about 50 barrels. The Fullerton Anaheim Union No. 1, one of the deepest wells drilled in the Richfield district, has been on the pump for two weeks and as yet has not made a color of oil. The well stopped drilling at 4660. Located near some of the big Standard Kraemer wells, why it failed to come in a big producer is a mystery. At 600 feet the Dependable Oil Trust ran into some big boulders, some of which are believed to be six and seven feet thick. The drilling with the cable tools is going nicely. It is believed the cable tools will handle the boulders more easily than the rotary. It is the intention now of the management to continue the well with cable tools. A few months ago the General Petroleum was holding second place in the Richfield development with 20 strings of tools running Today there are four wells drilling Davia No. 1 at 3247 is pulling the 8 inch to go deeper and will be a test well, Hugo No. 3 is drilling at 3200 in shale, and Hugo No. 3 shows 3000 feet in the sand, Jones No. 1 is the G.P.'s deep well, it is now drilling at 4045 in a hard shale. The Placentia-Pacific has succeeded in shutting off all top intermediate water, and is now cementing for bottom water at 3685./ Success in shutting off the lower water will mean a producing well in the next three weeks. COLUMBIA PLANS TO BRING IN ORANGE 7 Breas Field. The Columbia Oil Producing Co. stopped drilling on No. 7 Orange at 3765 and is making preparations to bring the well in. A 200 barrel well is expected. Nico No. 2 is drilling in the hard sand at 3450. Pico No. 3 the big well continues to show small oil increases coming in with the million feet of gas the well is producing daily. Menchego No. 2 is being swabbed to bring in. Drilled to 4289 this well will be a test well of the property. On the outcome of No. 4 No. 1 and other wells will be drilled. At Linda the Columbia recently completed No. 38 at 3250 and put it on a hundred barrel well. No. 39 a new well is rigging up. The Eddistone Oil Corp. test well on the oil Puente lease is going a little slow. Hard conglomerate struck at 100 feet is continuing to the present depth of 200 feet and is so hard that only a few feet of hole is made each day. The General Petroleum is bringing in. The Merchants Petroleum Company spudded in and started drilling today on its second well, at which 147 feet of stove pipe casing was set. The Placentia-Pacific has succeeded in shutting off all top intermediate water, and is now cementing for bottom water at 3685. Success in shutting off the lower water will mean a producing well in the next three weeks. On the Richfield property the Petroleum Development Company has spudded in and started drilling on No. 3. Bradford No. 1 is a 4116 ft. well flowing stealthy at 240 barrels. Bradford No. 2 is drilling at 3550. Bradford No. 3 drilled to 4361, was cleaned out and the production brot up from 100 to 125 barrels. No. 5 drilled to 4265 is cleaning out and is expected to go back on production at 200 barrels. Bradford Community the deep test well, lost 200 feet of hole and is redrilling at 4500. The Petroleum Midway is going deep at Yarnell No. 9. Drilling is now at 3550 in brown shale. Icacea No. 2 is at 2000 in brown shale. On the Krug lease No. 1 is cleaning out at 2540. No. 4 Krug stands contented at 3036, and Krug No. 5 stands cemented at 2810. Krug No. 6 is a rig. The Petroleum Midway has drilled Richfield-Yorba No. 2 to 4675 feet without finding very much oil. A string of 6 inch casing is now being set. It is the intention to set this pipe on bottom, cement it, and then go down with a prospect hole. The Richfield-Giant has made considerable progress during the past week with its water problem. The leak in the casing at 600 feet has been successfully plugged. The 8 inch string has been recemented at the shoe, and if this is a job the Giant will be ready for a production test early next week. The Union Petroleum Co. has shut off a leak in the 8 inch and will be ready to go on and test out the formation at 3200 feet. Much is being banked on the location of this well. By mayday the Union Petroleum well is considered one of the best locations at Richfield. As yet the Richfield-Yorba Oil Co has not succeeded in getting its well on regular production. Sand continues to manace the efforts to make it flow. On the pump the sand comes in and much of the time is spent in pulling rods and tubing and cleaning out sand. However it is believed the sand trouble is only temporary and the well will be put on regular production inside of the next ten days. The Ridge Oil Co's No. 1 is now drilling at 3655 and at that depth the sand shale is showing an apperable amount of gas. However production is not being figured on how short of 4000 feet. At Wardman-Claxon No. 4 the Selby-Root-Hogue Oil Co got a good showing of oil at 2875 and set a string of 10 in. Drilling out the ca. As the well deepened this showing disappeared. Drilling at 2525 the National Security Oil Co.'s Orange County Park well is showing an appreciable amount of gas. The Orange County Petroleum Co. has suspended operations awaiting the outcome of the National Security. The Tepothaal Oil Co. suspended drilling at 2000 feet in order to drill a water well on the property. No. 2 on the Turley lease is rigged up and ready to drill. The Bolen Chile Oil Corp. drilled 2455 feet of hole at "Good Luck Corner" and pulling back to 2100 feet set a string of 10°. The Blue Shale Oil and Refining Co. drilled out the cement plug set at 2430 and will go ahead whether or not a water shut off is secured at this depth. An exploration of the deep sand is to be made. Duplication of the famous Ashton No. 1 was the fortune that befell the Eddistone Oil Corp. at Ashton No. 2. The Union Oil Co.'s latest addition to its Rehfield production: Coyle and Bogue No. 1 is still holding steadily after producing two weeks, at 800 barrels. Chapman No. 1 is still doing better than 2100 barrels. Esther Newell No. 1 is making 125 barrels and No. 2 is making about 50 bbls. BUENA PARK, Aug. 17—(Spl.) Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Drilled to 3585 Ashton No. 2 came in a 1200 barrel well and settled down to a thousand barrels. The eddigstone Co. was just 30 days from the time the well was spudded in until it shot over the crown. At Huff No. 1 2675 feet of hole has been made, drilled in brown shale. Davenport No. 1 is about rigged up. After spending several days in continuous effort to make Fidelity No. 1 flow, the management has about decided to tube the well and put it on the beam. The well shows lots of oil but the oil is a little heavy, carries a considerable quantity of sand and very little gas. It should make a nice pumper. At 2722 feet the General Petroleum's Community No. 1 struck a nice showing of oil that continued to 2922. A string of ten inch pipe was set at 2935 and the well cemented. The rig and holdings of the so called Bell-Burnett Oil Co. are now in the hands of the Guarnyil Oil Co. The Bell-Burnett it seems were unable to fulfill obligations and according to previous arrangements the property has reverted to the original owners, the Garnyil Oil Co. The Huntington Owners Oil Co. No. 2 completed at 2369 and showing almost 30 feet of rich sands seems to be meeting with a little difficulty in getting under way. Efforts to make the well flow have not been entirely successful. It seems that the oil is accompanied yet with considerable sand, and until this sand can all be gotten out of the way the well probably will not flow steadily. However the Huntington-Owners has an oil well and it will be only a question of a short time before this one will be on regular production. Should it fall to flow it will make one of the nicest pumping wells in the field. At 2000 feet the Huntington Union began to show colors. At 2050 the colors increased to real oil and the "dilk" was full of foam and gas. The showing is considered important and may have something to do with the future development of the extreme eastern and northern side of the Huntington Beach field. While the showing seems to be coming from heavy oil it is encouraging, and may mean that the light product is near. The Hurat Oil Co. is resuming development work. Plans have been perfected to go back, shut off water, and depon No. 1. No. 2 is rigged up for the rotary and will start drilling in a few days. B. 3. Milley is setting 2700 feet of 8' carrying enough screen pipe to take care of all the oil sands in the big gusher. No. 1. Drilled to 2705 feet this well came in three weeks ago at 2000 barrels and for a while looked like Huntington Beach's banner producer. The water phantasy and "carnival of lights" is one of the big annual attractions of Balboa Beach and midway thousands of sightseers gather along the shore to inspect and admire the beautiful creations, wending their way over a deep-water course in Newport Harbor. The sight, on a cool summer evening, is most pleasing and one long to be remembered, the finishing touch being music floating over the waters from the passing boats. This year's parade will be larger and more beautiful than ever before, it is announced, and the prospect is for thirty or more decorated entries Prizes will be awarded for the winning entries in each of five classes: floats, yachts, motorboats, rowboats, and canoes. Among the entries to date are: Floats—Pasadena C.of C., Occidental College, Ponoma College, California Institute of Technology of Pasadena, Balboa Island, Balboa C.of C., P.Issel, Frank Smith and Newport Bay Investment Co.; yachts—Carroille, Joy and Rana. No. 3 is a rig. No. 2 is a steady producer at a 100 barrels. The cement is being drilled out in No. 1 at 2530. The Neptune Oil Co. has decided to defer drilling operations on its No. 1 until the Moore Syndicate wall is near production. The Moore Syndicate is now drilling at 1575 in hard sandy shale. Sand got to coming in with the oil at Pantages-Huntington No. 1 in such quantity that it was necessary to shut down and circulate. Even with the handicap of the sand the well was producing better than 200 barrels a day. The Peerless Oil and Refining Co.'s No. 1 is drilling ahead at 2700 feet. At-3695 the water shut off failed. The drilling ahead is for prospecting purposes. The Petitfills Syndicate is putting in the rods and tubing and the well is to go ahead on a production test. A good showing of oil was reported at 2375. Petitfills Syndicate will be the first producer in the south west side of the field and will be something of a test well. Ray Walker No. 1 drilled to 2487, and Thornton No. 1 drilled to 1607 by the Petroleum Midway have been temporarily suspended. Bray No. 1 is cleaning out at 2675, Columbia 1-1 stands re-cemented at 2225, Columbia 2-1 is drilling at 3150, Columbia 2-1 holds steadily producing at 75 barrels. Towrs I-A is being rigged up, Vollmer-Meyer No. 1 is drilling at 2200 in brown shale. On the High School well 1700 feet of hotle has been drilled, Smythe No. 1 shows 3000 feet in the shale. The Republic Petroleum's No. 1 is making approximately 500 barrels Among the entries to date are: Floats—Pasadena C. of C., Occidental College, Ponsoma College, California Institute of Technology of Pasadena, Balboa Island, Balboa C. of C., C.P. Visel, Frank Smith and Newport Bay Investment Co.; yachts—Carroille, Joy and Rana. The Newport Harbor Yacht club will take part as never before, and many more yachts and power boats will undoubtedly be entered, while a whole flock of small boats and canoes are in prospect. Additional C. of C. entries from So Calif., cities are also hoped for during the week. daily. The cement is selling in No. 2 at 2830. The third time at cementing has charm for the Rhodesian Oil Co.'s No. 2. The water was shut off at 2201 and the drilling is to go ahead. The Sanburtis Petroleum Co.'s No. 1 got a perfect audit off on the water at 2170, drilled on to 2215 and ran into a salt water sand Permission has been secured to go ahead and drill for the deep sand. Outward appearances and indications at the Sun Oil Co.'s No. 4 are indicative of a well. Cemented at 2278, the water looks like it was shut off. On account of the liveliness of the well and the heaving of sand a test on the water is attended with some difficulty. Sun No. 1 perforated the 10' at 2485 and cemented through the performances. No. 2 is still a rig. No. 3 continues to produce about a 100 barrels. Judging from the numebr of wells the Standard Oil Co.'s will stand cemented this company will be due for a lot of new production in a few weeks. The wells standing cemented are: A-4 at 3138, A-5 at 2696, A-9 at 2655, E-1 at 2520, E-2 at 2255, and Jones Community No. 1. Wells testing for water are: B-4 at 2585, and Bolsa No. 3 at 2571. The Talbert Oil Co.'s No. 1 had all the appearances of a gusher a few days ago except the oil. At 2280 a gas pocket was struck that blew out millions of feet of gas, great quantities sand has heaved up into the pipe some 125 feet and it is with some difficulty that the deepening work can proceed.
