Dayton, Mrs. Trust's mother. We extend our sincere congratulations and beat wishes for a continuance of their happiness, to all concerned. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Balserane and his Royal Highness Mike, Jr., of Perlis, have been spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Yorba, and Mr. M. Bolsserane. Messars, Joe Sauchez and Vincent Vesco took in the beauties (?) of Balbo' Bunday. Signor Valentino Zanini, a true son of Italy, and a soldier from that country in the recent World War, is now foreman at the E. C. Yorba ranch near the schoolhouse. Mr. and Mrs. A. Navarre are rejoicing over the arrival of a brand new infant son. GOVERNMENTS REALIZING MENACE OF PATERNALISM WASHINGTON, Aug. 15—According to reports issued by the department of commerce, the world is getting back to normalcy by stopping government subsidies and government control of commodities as rapidly as possible. In Great Britain, the Royal Wheat Commission is closing its affairs as rapidly as possible; consolidated buying of foreign food has been abandoned and individual merchants are now supplying the trace. In France it is expected that government purchasing will be abandoned as of August I. In Holland all government control and buying of food has ceased. In Belgium it has ceased except in wheat and refrigerated meat which will be decontrolled by the first of September. Italy is the only one of the allied governments which maintains government purchasing and it is confining its purchases largely to grain. In Germany the government is maintaining the consolidated purchase system for the most important food supplies. All governments realize that they cannot continue conducting enterprises which of right belong to the field of private endeavor and individual initiative. The payment of subsidies and like paternalistic measures favoring this or that industry or class of products are retarding rather than assisting reconstruction. It is attempting the impossible feat of lifting one's self by tugging at one's bootstraps. Taxing all of the people in order to pay one class of people a subsidy only increases cost of living and piles up taxes which add to the burdens of all business and in the end it injures the very thing it purports to help. ALL GRAIN MOVEMENTS BROKEN BY YEAR'S SALES CHICAGO, Aug. 15. — Farmers first to feel the pinch of the nationwide economic depression, now are beginning ahead of any other classes of business men to experience a return of prosperity. One of the greatest grain movements in history now is crowding the facilities of the railroads. Grain shipments during the last six weeks broke all records in the history of the trade. Farmers are crowding grain to market in such quantities that in some places there is not sufficient elevator storage space. Difficulty in handling grain receipts was reported at Chicago and Galveston.
