KIWANIS SPEAKER OUTLINES TENETS
Principles underlay the organization of Kiwanis clubs are the "Seven Foundation Stones of Business Building." Carl Rosenberg, president of the Sales Managers' association of Los Angeles told members of the Santa Ana Kiwanis club at luncheon.
Rosenberg was introduced by Fred H. Taylor, chairman of the day, as past president of the Rotary club of Los Angeles and present chairman of the Rotary International committee on education.
Rosenberg likened his talk to a parable and used a novel method in order to impress the seven salient points of business building with seven blocks on which these points were inscribed. As he enunciated each point he turned the corresponding block on which appeared his point in writing.
Curiosity of the Kiwanis club men when they sat down to lunch, was aroused by the seven numbered blocks. At the conclusion of Rosenberg's parable their curiosity had been turned to surprise and then to appreciative applause as the blocks were turned a second time, spelling KIWANIS.
Rosenberg said:
"My story or parable is of the transformation of a father and his business, which had been criticised by his son. The son left home rather than join his father in what he considered a decrepit and falling enterprise. Deserted by his son, the father realized something must be wrong.
"After considerable thought he evolved the 'Seven Foundation Stones of Business Building.'"
"Number One he called Worthy Vocation. Was he engaged in a worthy vocation? If so, it was his duty to scour the markets of the world to serve the people who depended upon him to prove worthy of his vocation."
"Number Two—Self Improvement. He must not wear slubby clothes if he expected his business to be stylish. He must improve his own mind with ask for every raise. His interest in them must be voluntary. To raise their standards, he must raise his own.
"Number Five—Honesty. Honesty meant more than sixteen ounces to the pound and thirty-five inches to the yard. It meant the elimination even of shady tactics, heretofore overlooked.
"Number Six — Friendship. True friendship was the basis of his business. His must be a true friend and cultivate the friendship even of his competitors.
"Number Seven — Service. Service should be of the kind that would raise the standards of his business and make the road easy for them that came after him. It was more than merely prompt attention to his clients."
NEW SANTA ANA FIRE ENGINE DUE TODAY
Santa Ana has a regular fire engine.
John Luexmbourger, chief of the fire department, was to bring it here from Los Angeles today.
Technically it is known as a Sea-grave pump, with a capacity of 700 to 1000 gallons a minute. The pumping apparatus is driven by the motor which draws it to the scene of a fire.
This motor is a specially built Sea-grave motor, six-cylinder, 140 horse power.
This truck will carry, it is expected, 1500 feet of 2 1-2 inch hose and 400 feet of 1 1-2 inch hose, with the necessary equipment of chemical tanks, "fire-guns," axes, and many other items.
The pump was ordered about five months ago from the Columbus, O., factory, which promised nothing under 150 day delivery. It arrived in Los Angeles, last Saturday.
Chief Luxembourger went to Los Angeles yesterday in order to inspect the truck. It was given a test run as far as Alhambra, whose fire chief wanted to see Santa Ana's new modern piece of equipment. As result of the test run, Chief Luxembourger decided on various minor changes in arrangement of equipment.
Acquisition of the new pump means that Santa Ana will no longer be de-

5000 BBLS. CAPPED IN COALINGA FIELD
(Calif. State Mining Bureau)
Production of crude oil in the state reached its peak during April of the current year with an average daily production of 338,000 barrels. Since that time there has been a slight decline in production partly due to the falling off in initial production of new wells in Elk Hills and Huntington Beach oil fields and partly because of the voluntary shutting down of active producers. At least 5000 barrels of oil per day has been shut off in the Coalinga fields alone because of overproduction.
The increase in production during the early months of 1921 was due to the drilling started in the later part of 1920. The rate of drilling increased until April of this year however when 134 wells, a maximum number were reported ready to drill. During June and July of 1921 new wells ready to drill averaged 26 per week against 16 per week for the same period in 1920.
A marked drilling activity among the larger producing concerns, especially at Elk Hills and Huntington Beach oil fields has been a contributing factor to the present overproduction of crude oil and the consequent reduction in price.
The following table shows 397 new wells ready to drill by 12 of the larger operating companies since the first of the year. This is 45 per cent of the total number of wells ready to drill since January 1, 1921.
