City Briefs
C. C. Bainert leaves tonight. All the east. He will visit a couple of days with his father at Sigourney, Ia., and proceed to his more recent home in Rando, N. D., where he sold large and holdings two years ago when he moved to Anaheim. Because of poor crops and poorer prices he has had experienced difficulty in collecting payments.
Mrs. George Dunten came over from Catalina for the week-end at her home here. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Dunton visited the new Cinderella roof garden in Los Angeles. Mrs. Dunton returned to Catalina yesterday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Whitaker are proud grand-parents for the second time within a month. Recently their daughter Mrs. Ralph Mana presented them with a grandchild. Last Friday the stock visited the home of their son, Mr. Loring Whitaker, of Visalia.
Mr. and Mrs. Nawlin of Long Beach are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ross of Anaheim; Mrs. Nawlin and Mrs. Ross are sisters.
Mrs. W. B. Holland will spend several days visiting friends in Long Beach.
Miss Dorothy Hunt has returned from Catalina where she has been on a vacation with hr Sorority sisters.

Mrs.Jack Kuley entertained Mr. and Mrs.V.E.Thaodoroff Saturday and Sunday and returned with them to their home in Los Angeles for a short stay.

Lieutenant Olonel W. R. Harrison and wife, from the Presidio, are stopping at Hotel Valencia today, while on route to other points of interest. They have a three and one-half months vacation and have toured Southern California to the border. They will return over a different route to their home.

OLD FASHIONED "KID PARTY"
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. McDonald were the complicated guests at an old-fashioned "kid party" given last evening by Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Heinzie. Children's games were played, and a hat-trimming contest for the men conducted. Many fearful and wonderful combinations of colors were used and the prize was awarded to H. Kampling, whose hat was entirely unique. It was named the "futurist" hat, altho the ladies admitted it would be some time in the future before such a hat became a general favorite with them.
Passing the evening together were Mr. and Mrs. H. E. McDonald, the guests of honor, Mr. and Mrs. P. V. Brady; Mr. and Mrs. H. Kampling; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bock and Mr. and Mrs. Helinze, who were served with dainty refreshments after the games were concluded.
BROOKHURST FOLK PICNIC
A crowd of Brookhurst friends on Sunday went to Newport Beach where they enjoyed their dinners and suppers on the sandy beach.
Wading, swimming and other exercises brot remarkable appetites satisfied with the generous picnic menu. The party was extended into the evening and the affair voted as one of the happiest of the many participated in by the Brookhurst neighborhood.
Forming the crowd were the Messrs Sadic, Hazel and Lella Threher of Corona; Miss Stevenon of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs Marion Elliott of Los Angeles; Mrs. Gerald McCumber, Mrs. Howard Haggerty, Mrs. John Robertson and Mrs. Joseph Caulder, of Buena Park, and Mrs. Harold Covey and Mrs. Messrs Smith.
BOYAL NEIBHBORS MEET
Rosewood Camp Royal Neighbors held a very pleasant regular meeting yesterday afternoon when two candidates were received into the order, Mrs. Grace Annal and Mrs. Grace Taunt.
A social time after closing ceremonies was concluded with serving light refreshments.
The Sunshine Philathea class met in regular monthly session last evening at the home of Mrs. Norbert Anderson, on North Lemon-st.-Oaly business was handled, but a pleasant social time followed, in which light refreshment was served.
CHISPA CHAPTER INITIATES
Chispa chapter, O. E. S., met in regular session last evening in chapter hall, the feature of the evening initiatory work. Three candidates were received, Mr. and Mrs. Perkins by initiation, and Mrs. Lescher by affiliation.
A social hour followed adjournment to the banquet room where lively talks were given by several of the members. Mr. Perkins expressed his pleasure at receiving membership and Mrs. Lyttel, a visiting sister from San Diego spoke briefly. Mr. Nowotny made a short talk in his inimitable and witty manner.
The southern district Delegates from the Anaheim church are Miss Mabel Bets and Leonard Clewert, who with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Link, and the Miss Smith from San Bernardino and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Voxt from Santa Ana, formed two auto parties to make the trip.
Rev. F. H. Doescher, pastor of the local church, will go tomorrow to remain over Sunday. During his absence his pupil will be occupied by Rev. Wm. Almendinger, of Whittier, who will deliver the English sermon in the morning, and Rev. Kraber, the German address.
RETURN FROM HONEYMOON
Mr. and Mrs. Meade Shear have returned from their honeymoon passed in San Diego and are now at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Shear, parents of the groom.
Their marriage occurred Thursday, Aug. 4, in Santa Ana, Rev. Oliver, pastor of the Methodist church, saying the words that united Miss Ethel Davis, of Santa Ana, to Mr. Meade Shear, a few intimate friends were present at the ceremony which was performed at the parsonage. They will reside in Anaheim and for the present with the G. M. Shear family.
DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE
A delightful surprise was given in honor of Mrs. L. Henning at her home yesterday. The afternoon was spent in pleasant chat. A big surprise birthday cake was presented to the honoree. Light refreshments of ice cream and hand-wrapped tote were served to the self-invited guests. Those present from Anaheim were Mrs. M. E. H. Remick and Mrs. Hurd.
ORGANIZE QUARTET
The Messrs R. T. Corley, F. H. Leonard, W. L. Morris and H. L. Potter have organized a quartet and last night met for rehearsal at the Potter home. They were served with cooling refreshment by Mrs. Potter at the close of the practice.
The quartet is open for engagement anywhere within a radius reached by auto travel and are prepared to give some excellent programs. They will rehearse each Monday evening.

500 COUNTRY CLUB MEETS
The 500 Country Club held their usual meeting with Mrs. G. L. Cole last week, but on account of so many vacations the entire membership was not present. The games, however, held unusual interest and prizes were won by Mrs. Jerry cole, first, and Mrs. George Trapp, second.
After games Mrs. Cole served her guests with delicious refreshments and an hour of conversation and music closed the pleasant meeting.
SPENDS EIGHT YEARS ABROAD
Mrs. Laura Parsons, Mrs. Julia Miller and Miss Mary Miller were the guests today of S. N. Hardin, brother of Mrs. Parsons and Mrs. Miller.
Mrs. Parsons has just returned from an eight years trip abroad, most of the time being passed in Haka, Burma. The reunion of the sisters and the brother is heartily enjoyed, Mrs. Miller and Miss Miller reside in Pomona.
CHRISTIAN PIONIC AUGUST 11TH
Thursday, August 11, is a red letter day on the calendar of the Christian church and Sunday school in that it is the day for the big barbecue and outing to be held in Orange-co park. The committee on arrangements, with J. D. Wallace as chairman, and his "strong right arm men," J. E. Baker and Dr. Carlin, will see to it there are sports and contests enough to go around, with others for good measure. Tugg-of-war, baseball and other games are on the list, and a program of short speeches, etc., will be given also.
But the really big feature of the day is the barbecued meat and buns and coffee provided by the committee, which, augmented by salads and other good things, will be sure to make everyone happy.
Everybody who has no method of transportation may go to the church at 9 o'clock a.m. and they will be taken by auto to the park.

MEMORIALIZE KIT CARSON
SACRAMENTO, Aug. 9. At the point where Kit Carson blazed a tree "Kit Carson, 1844," a bronze tablet will be placed on a large boulder at the summit of the Sierra on the Alpine Highway. The tablet is dedicated to the memory of General John C. Fremont and his guide, Kit Carson. The tree where Carson carved his name marks the only authentic point of entry of these early explorers into California. The "blazed" name of this famous guide was cut out of the historic tree many years ago and now reposes in Sutter Fort, Sacramento, along with other price-less relics of California's pioneer days.
