AMAL. GETS 400-BBL. WELL AT 2695 FT.
Huntington Beach.
After redrilling and deepening Huntington 2-A the Amalgamated Oil Co. put the well on a production test at 2695. Judging from the way the well started off it will undoubtedly battle to a 400 barrel producer. Huntington No. 4 is rigging up.
The Eddinton Oil Corporation closed a deal for the 22 nure Davenport properly subjoining the H. J. Miley big well lease. A rig is being built and drilling will start at once. Ashton No. 2 stands cemented at 3500. Buff No. 1, a new well recently started is drilling at 2,000 feet.
After being held up for almost a month the Edson Syndicate No. 1 went on a production teal-o-day. The well is pumping about 100 barrels and is showing some water.
Drilling at 2865 feet the general Petroleum's Community No. 1 has not shown any indications of oil yet. The Motor Oil and Refining on adjoining property struck a showing at 2379 and set ploe.
A rig for the one destroyed at No. 1 by fire is nearing completion. It is the intention to get this well back on production as soon as possible. No. 2 stands idle at 3122.
Ranking second in the list of Huntington Beach's biggest producers E. J. Miley No. 1 is flowing steadily at 1800 barrels. The oil has improved in gravity until now it is almost 21. The percentage of cut in the oil is too small to consider. E. J. Miley has been one of the consistent oil developers of the field since it opened and he is entitled to this great success. No. 2 one the Miley property is spudging in and a rig for No. 3 is building.
The advent of the big Miley producer is to the east side of the Huntington Beach field as the big Western Union well was to the west side of the field. Prior to the coming in of Miley No. 1 development work has slowed in the east side of the field to about three wells drilling. Now a half dozen or more are going ahead and before very long every well in the section that has been standing will be drilling. The Miley well proved to be a kind of life saver.
The idea of redrilling and deepening the Mozer Special No. 1 has been abandoned and the well will be put production at 3021. Complicated

Just at the time the Talbert Oil Co. was getting ready to drill its No. 1 into production the bottom joint of the 10° casing collapsed, and indirectly caused the loss of the cementing job at 2185. A string of 8' will be run in and the cementing done again.
Drilled to 2920 Vista Del Mar No. 2 struck an oil showing at 2800 and pulled back to 2765 to set pipe. Just as the last joint was being let down into place a collar gave way allowing the pipe to part. All efforts to screw on have failed, and also it is practically impossible to pull the pipe out. The Central Oil Co.'s No. 69 brought in a week ago at 2255 and at 225 barrels has settled down to 200 barrels and is making clean oil. Drilling on No. 67 is at 1750, No. 68 is at 2045, and No. 17 is at 150.
The Ocean View Oil Co. has completed a rig for its No. 2, but according to official information the actual drilling will not start for a month or more. No. 1 appears to be good for a hundred-barrels.
Drilling on the LaHabra Midway's No. 1 is now at 1010 feet. The formation is blue shale and the drilling is going on nicely. Economy of operation is a feature with the LaHabra Midway. Running on electric power the cost of power and lights is not running over $5,000 a day.
That the stockholders of the So. Cal. Oil Co. are behind their organization almost to a man is proven by the fact that 98 per cent of them paid the recent 5 per cent stock levy. More than 13,000 dollars was raised to further the drilling of what looks like a very promising well at Whitier. The drilling is now at 2100 and the formation is showing sandy shale.
The Southern California's well is located between the Montebello field and the Ridleout Heights field, and may prove a connecting well between the two fields.
The Shell Co.'s Cole No. 1 drilling at 4375 feet is now in sandy brown shale and is looking considerable better. The Hart well at the head of Burnball Canyon shows 4015 feet and hard sand. The best that the Baldwin 1-A will do is about twelve barrels. This well was drilled originally to 4563 and afterwards plugged back to 3875.
It is the intention of the Standard Oil Co. to make an exhaustive and deep test for oil on the Bastanchury ranch at Fullerton. Drilling now on No. 5 is at 1845, and No. 1 started just recently it a 3865.
On the Murphy-Coyote property the Standard has No. 78 cemented at 4-150. No. 79 is drilling at 1700. No. 80 at 3300 and No. 86 at 2900. No. 87 and 88 are new wells setting bolls aid digging up.

FARM BUREAU HAS BLOC IN CONGRESS
The Farm Bureau has created national legislative situation which has been given the uncommon term or name of "Bloc." The American Farm Bureau Federation through its Washington office, has in cooperation with numerous agricultural units, developed a comprehensive agricultural legislation program in congress.
In the senate there has been grouped an organized number of senators coming from agricultural states with the purpose of building and controlling legislation affecting farmers. This group or bloc is not republican nor democratic in complexion and does not perform on party lines. It does not obey the caucuses of the two big parties when the issues are not in agreement with the bloc. The bloc in the senate hold caucuses of its own. It controls a large influence and has support of certain senators upon occasion who are not members of the bloc. This group represents the first great organized movements in congress for putting through definite legislation. Senator Kenyon of Iowa is chairman of the bloc in the Senate.
The house maintains a similar bloc with a membership of over 100 representatives. In both houses the bloc controls many more votes than the memebship indicates.
The bloc is alive and speaks plaintly. It exists to get for the farmer such national help as he needs. Southern and western agricultural areas are mostly in the bloc. This group is working for a farm credit system.
