Wednesday, August 3, 1921 The Village Gossip Laguna Beach is studying, talking and dreaming pageant. Laguna Beach is living for and in its pageant—the Rescue Pipe play to be given in the full of the August moon. Never in the history or Orange-co has there been a finer, more conscientious or more earnest community effort than is being put forth by the people of Laguna Beach—an effort that without doubt is to be crowned with the remarkable success that it deserves. Every resident of Laguna Beach, from the toddlers to the oldest inhabitant, has a responsibility that he keenly feels in aiding the production of the pageant. Because the sense of responsibility is in the air, there is a tenseness of effort, a decided "pull together" movement such as the beach town has never before expe- Growing! 1907 1917 THE MOST IMPORTANT UNDERPRICE SELLING EVEN OF MOST REMARKABLE VALUES—ECONOMIES DOCUMENTARY MONEY-SAVING NATURE. While the Laguna Beach Art association has taken the lead in arranging the production, the good will and conscientious support and active participation of the residents of the beach community is arrayed in a movement moving steadily toward the all-important date — August 15, the opening night of the Peace Pipe play to be given six nights. The artistic abilities of the art colony of Laguna Beach are being exerted day and night. The painting and showing of pictures has become but a side issue. The one big thing right now, the one big thing until the pagenat passes into history, is and will be the Indian pageant. If one sees Elmer Jahrus, realtor, or Postmaster Brayton Norton standing apart from the throng, with a look, afar off, muttering—he is but saying over his lines. If, hatless and weather-browned, in bathing suit beneath the noonday sun, a slender young man is seen walking up and down, up and down the sand of Laguna Beach—be not surprised, it is Alexis Many of Washington, D. C., artist, winner of an award at the past winter exhibit in the Corcoran Art institute. In his hand he holds a typewritten manuscript. At the turn in the sand, he gazes hastily at the manuscript, and walks on and on—he is studying his part.
