OREGON HEARS WILL TALES OF SO.CALIFORNIA
"Maybe they have been smokers hop!"
That was the first thing HeRohrs of Orange could think of after he finished reading a clip from an Oregon City paper sent him by J.K.Tuldredge, formerly Santa Ana, now of that city.
"There is an army of unemployed coming north from So.Calif., like invasion of grasshoppers," says clipping, which purported to be based on interviews from rural tourists returning to Oregon from California." All the main ways of California are lined up men all headed north."
"There is no work for them that state," continues the interview "Industrial conditions are at bottom and the fruit ralsers about as bad off as the job hirers."
Soup kitchens and free lunch stands in Oregon are advocated one "tourist," who says the "roads highways are literally built with men and women walk north."
"These people are not bums," says, "but they soon will be there will be need of soup kitchens in this valley before the winter hardly commenced." There is work in the south and the travel."

AUTO PLUNGES OFF
CLIFF AT LAGUNA
Not for movie purposes, but just
because it happened, an auto plunged in spectacular fashion off the
cliffs at Laguna Beach upon the
rocks at Coward's cove.
The machine belongs to G. F.
Whitty, of Los Angeles, secretary of
the Children's Home Society of California.
After a day at the beach, Whitty
prepared to start for home. His auto stood a few yards from the edge
of the cliff. The vehicle is one of
the kind that has to be cranked, and
when it was cranked it performed a shimmy all of its own.
The owner stepped to one side,
expecting to reach the throttle and
not expecting that the machine of
its own motion would start down hill.
Fortunately, no one was in the
machine when it took its plunge.
The Coast garage at Laguna
tached a cable and tackle to the machine and hauled it to the top.
What happened to the machine
was described at being "a-plenty."
